Space Engineers Solar Panels

  • Ever thought you disliked solar panels because to power something you need a LOT of them? A very big and ugly blob of solar panels that just gets in the way? For giggles I built a rig with 282 panels that can be compacted to use the space of about 60 panels. Practical use? Probably not, right? Clang isn't a fan, but nothing's exploded yet!

    I'm so so impressed that you can build such complicated structure on a pole that is on ONE bloc thick. ONE mistake, ONE bullet, ONE grinder hit, and the entire thing is down.

  • @Starvationru
    @Starvationru 2 роки тому +271

    I would further increase the "folding" of the structure and make it so that the pillar itself on which the panels are held also folds and the whole structure goes underground. This would be very helpful when playing in a meteor shower world.

      Essentially, this became way too frequent that people called this "Angering Clang" (Clang, because the unstable grids made a clanging sound).
      Clang is both respected and feared, for it shall either give you incredible power, or destroy everything in a 700m radius... if it is 'normal' pissed.
      By incredible power, I mean Clang weaponry that can launch projectiles 3 times over the speed limit, Clang driven engines with incredible acceleration from virtually nothing, or make things like the video shows.
      Downside is that they're very unstable.
      Clang weapons/cannons can destroy whatever it's mounted to, Clang drives need a crap ton of gyros alone to just keep it stable and going in one direction, and Clang creations can explode(literally) and shred anything and everything nearby.

    Nice job! The trick to stop Clang is to have share inertial dampening on everything but the first rotor, piston, or hinge. Whatever the sub grid is after the first mechanical part you put down first. That first object is attached to the ground or a base. It doesn't need to be stabilized. Everything after that dose.
    Just a little of advice on the subject.

      @JAY-fq7sb Рік тому +2

      @@justsomeguy1136 It should, I build my turrets in a double orientation and use this method. The only thing I don't put share inertial dampening on is the first advanced rotor I place. Then I put down a 3x3 rotor part on top of that. I put a conveyor junction on that with the large ports to the side. I attach 2 3x3 rotors to each side. When I am done with my custome turret. I have 16 warfare gatling guns 8 on each side. With 2 small grid turret controllers on the back of each side. Only one controls the base. This works really well. When the drones show up if you play with Assertive mods or other mods where your base is attacked. These turrets rip things apart in seconds. You do need to have the ammo for them to stay stocked up though. 😁😏👍

    Potential improvement idea: have a merge block on the end of the piston arm to connect it with the rest of the body of the ship to reduce wobble once its unfolded (and something similar for when folded).
    I'd totally use this on a ship to hide my panels under the armour and unfold to recharge.

    • @xLadyHawkx
      @xLadyHawkx  2 роки тому +7

      This is not actually wobbling when unfolded because the current hinge bug is making the hinges too weak to move until the pistons start coming in lol. But yeah, probably a very good idea to lock both ends in place under normal circumstances.

I've tried copying this onto a ship as wings but the first hinge didn't move after making the pillar, before even adding any of the panels. There's a bug with hinges that's limiting me, but it's been flagged for a fix for well over a year now. I may pick this back up in the future.
