    Thank you for this!
    0:40 when you receive a present, compliment or you're a service provider, you say it to your client = "do1 je6"
    1:30 when you receive a favor (carries your bag, opens the door, gives directions) or please/excuse me =" m4 gio1"
    3:54 Exercise in use

    This is one of the most slept on/under the radar language channels on UA-cam. I wish I knew about this years ago when I first started out studying. You're a fantastic teacher. Really enjoying the lessons so far!

      @@Freshmarketers it's an expression to mean "not yet widely known". I feel like when you go looking online for Cantonese resources, not a lot comes up. I just came across this channel by chance. But I def wish it was more visible because I think so many people are starved for these kind of resources

    These videos are very well done. I’m Canadian born Chinese and I’ve struggled to learn Cantonese. I went to Chinese school, took a class at a local university and I am currently paying for an online private tutor. The way this teacher explains things and relates it to things that are memorable is extremely helpful! I subscribed! Will like every video I watch.

    This concept is kinda funny to me. As someone who knows some Cantonese, I know when to say it but I couldn’t explain it to you what situation is appropriate. This actually is interesting to hear it explained. Somehow hearing it explained makes me more confused and understanding at the same time

    Thank you so much, this has really helped clarify the uses of the two 'thank you' options. Just a quick question, it says 'client' as a situation when we say 'do je' but as a customer if they give me change from payment which 'thank you' do I say? It's not a favour and although it's not a present, they are actually giving me something so do I say 'do je'?

    How about jau5 sam1? Does it mean thank you?

    • @5minutecantonese
      @5minutecantonese  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you for your question. Literally, jau5 means to have, sam1 means heart. Jau5 sam1 means "you are very thoughtful". We use it when the other party is showing their care and support to you. For example, if your friend's dad is sick. You asked and show your care to your friend. He might say"my dad is getting better, jau5 sam1". It carries the meaning of thank you but we cannot use this to replace m4 goi1 or do1 je6.
