Hey guys! Sorry, I know the music in this video is pretty loud; I made the video when I was first starting out and didn’t really understand video editing haha. All my videos after this have much better audio, I promise! I also have another video going over my picture book process if you’d like to check it out! :) NOTE: I only take on picture book projects directly from publishers, so unfortunately I cannot illustrate your book idea!
Aw, I was actually enjoying the music. It was so relaxing, like we were chatting in a coffee shop but you were doing all the talking. ;) In fact, I was going to comment about the music being nice anyway and not that annoyingly perky yuke with bells and whistling that everyone else uses. (BTW, I love uke, just not perky yuke, haha).
I know why "certain people" ask, "why do you share?" It's because they never share. They like to steal other people's ideas, talents, culture, land then claim them as their own. They're well known around the world this but they never want to share. Thank you for sharing this. You know you're talented and you believe in your own talents. You don't have to be afraid of everyone else's success.....BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you!! I’ve learned that other people’s success has nothing to do with your own; the other artists aren’t taking opportunities away from you, there’s plenty of opportunities to go around. Instead of competing with artists it’s more important to help each other. I believe that when I help others, the kindness will come back around to me. :)
@@AnooshaSyed it certainly will! Thank you so much. I need to make some drawings for my children's book because I don't have money to pay someone, I sure appreciate your videos. I subscribed. Blessings to you and yours and be safe out there!😁🙏🏽⚘
You are so right. People are quick to ask you to share, and once you do, they are like vultures. Being on UA-cam as a content creator for the last 7 years I can say this is true. I have learned to share when I am ready and share what it is that I desire. I have also started classes and have written a book. Sometimes, you have to set boundaries and give without bias. It is hard, but there are so many ways to deal with this.
As a teacher of children's literature, I find the depth of explanation extremely helpful. The commentary foregrounds the relationship between print and visual elements, which is a key course conversation.

A couple weeks ago my 4 year old picked this book from the library. As we read it before bed I kept saying to myself “this is why I want to write and illustrate children’s books”. Then I stumbled on your UA-cam! My son LOVED this book, and I loved your art.
Thank you for posting this. I've got an assignment to illustrate a picturebook with complete freedom and had no idea on how to go about it. This helps a lot.
this is amazing. I'm illustrating my first-ever children's book and I hit a big wall: HOW TO GET STARTED. Then I came across your video and you really inspired me! Thank you so much for this video. It was not only pragmatic but also encouraging!
This is soooo helpful for illustration students (like me)! I honestly can't thank you enough, just trying to illustrate my own book for the first time and the whole process seems so daunting, but watching someone break down their process step-by-step is amazing!!
INCREDIBLY appreciative to be able to see your process. I'm not an illustrator (lol) - I'm a musician, but love to see how other people in the arts go about doing their thing. This is great!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I was recently interviewed as a candidate to be an illustrator for a children’s book. I’m hoping they choose me, but so nervous as this would be my first book. Your videos have been great! Thank you!
Thank you SOOO much for this video!! I was a big fan of the colour breakdown of each cover. Super informative and really helpful! I'm feeling inspired 🤩
Your video got recommended on YT and everyone must be saying this already but YOUR EYES ARE AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! Also this video is amazing too, thanks!
I'm so proud of you, and Canadian too, I have written a few kids books, but still waiting on an Illustrator, so this is amazing to see the process, Thank you :)
MAHALO Anoosha for this! I'm constantly building my portfolio and illustration for children's book was something I was encouraged to do but I still needed a sort of briefing on how to handle it. This video was the KEY to it. Thank you for this resource
After a grand hiatus from art, I started doodling on my iPad this summer. My doodles turned more illustrative, and I decided to re-do a family history story in children’s picture book style with “historical notes” for adults at the end. I bought a new iPad and downloaded ProCreate. So, here I am going to school via You-Tube. Your videos are fantastic and nothing about this was boring. Try switching up the rooms you are in, and for me, the background music is at too high a volume and sounds like it’s on a continuous loop. Your content is spot-on and informative, the only thing remotely tedious are what I’ve just mentioned. Terrific work-you are so talented.
This was so educational!!! I’m a writer and I have always been so curious about the illustration process. Thank you so much for such a detailed and fun video!! ❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations on your wedding and thank you so much for this video. I am currently taking Vanessa Brantley Newton's class on Storyteller Academy and that is what led me to this video showing up on my feed. Really enjoyed watching it and appreciate all the insights.
This was such a beautifully illustrated book ! I loved how diverse all the character representation was in the book . I’d love if you’d be willing to speak to a local school in bklyn New York about your experience . Please let me know how to get in touch .
I actually saw that book in Waterstones and thought, hey that looks good, picked it up and had a read through it - who knew I'd find out you were actually the illustrator lol!! This is such a helpful insightful video Anoosha, thank you so much! I'm just quit my job to start out on this path so your videos are reassuring me 😂❤️

Anoosha! This was amazing! I loved how detailed and transparent you were throughout your process.. I loved the color portion as well and the different designs you went through for the cover of the book. I noticed that around 35:46 the sound got a bit loud. Oh! Ans a composition video would be great. Thank you so much for sharing!
Congratulations on your wedding! I learned so much from watching your video! I loved the detail you delved into with regard to choices of color, responding to changes and notes from the publisher, composition of the pages, and the big picture of how they work together. You are a talented illustrator and very kind to share so much of your knowledge with the viewer. Don't worry. You could never be boring! I'm fascinated by the details.
Usually I don't love social media for getting illustration work because it's so passive, but Twitter allows to reach art directors directly so it's a really great way to do it! Lovely work you have, it was fascinating to see your process :)
Anoosha!!! Oh my goodness how I enjoyed your video and your honesty!! You sound so much like myself and I totally agree with what you have shared. Every time I work on a book it's like doing it for the first time all the time. LOL!! People think as illustrators that this is always fun that it is super duper easy for us, but we are working with large publishers and others who have opinions and we have to be true to ourselves and the project that we are working on. I am almost 100 books in now and its been wild and wonderful. I am so very grateful for every single book that I had the joy of doing. Thank you so much for your transparency it is so very refreshing and beautiful! Hopefully I will get to meet you at a book festival at some point! You are the bomb girl! Anoosha, I just found this video while poking around for information about graphic design to learn a bit more about how to effectively lay out presentations. It it is my “secret” wish to become an illustrator of children’s books or maybe even write and illustrate my own one day, so when I saw your video I was super excited to watch it. I just finished it, and I couldn’t be more thrilled than I am right now. I am inspired, I REALLY appreciate the time you take to break down the entire process, show examples, and cover so many bases. Also, your illustrations are lovely and the way you present the information made it easy and pleasing to follow along. Thanks again! I have subscribed and I look forward to exploring your channel and future content! God bless you!
Thank you so much!! I’m glad this video was insightful :). I recently uploaded another one going over my picture book process which might have some more info that might be helpful to you. Best wishes!
The part where you mentioned text placement really resonated with me. I'm a translator, writer and graphic artist and I have translated 2 picture books into French. It was for an indie writer and they were fortunate to have me instead of another translator who isn't equipped to deal with images as well as translation. When authors know from the start they're going to want their book translated they should tell the original artist as well and if possible tell them which language they intend to have their book in. Besides the fact that some languages typically use more words to say the same thing compared to others, the way symbolism shifts when considering directions the characters are going, predominant colors in some scenes would need to be taken into account to avoid having too many things to change or edit each time you get started on a new language version of the book. Your art is beautiful!
Thank you Anoosha! I am immensely grateful that I found your channel. This is pure gold! Shared effortlessly for the sheer joy of creating and helping others. I hope this inspires many many others to not only create but also in turn help others. Lot's of good wishes and regards. Thank you!

I love your multicultural illustrations... this is something, which many children in many countries are missing..🌸 Wishing you all the best ✨🌷😊 Thank you for sharing all your videos 💖🌻🎨
I hope not to bother you, but do you have any exercise to improve ideas for layouts? I have a really hard time during storyboarding a story, not knwoing if I can improve the camera on the scene , in a cinematic illustration or how to get the message clear in a more illustrative page. In any case thank you again for this video, I'm going to binge watching your contents

i really enjoyed the video and amazed at the final results. i like how you created an actual book and the process involved. i am glad you included everything and showed the visual of the book as you went along. very informative and helpful
You are refreshingly modest, despite your talent! I just discovered your channel and have been watching all the back videos. They are so helpful. And yes, I love seeing all the color studies!
LOL When you mentioned the animated cameo, that episode of Arthur immediately came to mind - even before you put up the image. I remember thinking Matt Damon looked like a monster! LOLOL That being said, I am a caricature artist and I know Matt Damon is really hard to draw.
This was really wonderful. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. The background music was a little loud at times so, I missed what you were saying. I am grateful for the time, thought, and work you put into this video.
I am above to self publish my 1st children's book. Your videos are really helpful and it gives a confidence for the creative and marketing process. Thank you Anoosha :)

Thank you for sharing the process that helps a lot. I really appreciate for time and value you providing us. In Love with your work really simple and amazing art.
This was such a helpful and informative video! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and process. Your art is absolutely stunning! The background music got a bit loud at times so you were a little hard to hear, but otherwise this was great! Looking forward to future videos. Congratulations on the marriage too!
Anoosha im so happy I found your page you gave me so much hope as a pakistani american- can't wait to share more about my book, hoping to connect and work together in the future
This is cool. I would also really like to see a video on how to create a children’s book in Clip Studio Paint. I want to learn how to use the digital tools to create the cover, a few of the pages, and to add the text. I need to make sure that I’m getting the dimensions correct and that everything will print fine.
So so so insightful, I’m not an illustrator and not really thinking of being one but you had my attention start to finish. Very well made, you are wonderful !
This was incredibly insightful. Someone proposed I illustrate for a book idea they have and I wasn’t even sure what questions to ask. I didn’t realize I could possibly pitch different designs per character or per cover. Thank you for telling us your experience. I have coworkers who don’t believe in sharing your how-to’s with people. I personally think that’s kind of selfish, to not want to build others up. It’s just not good sportsmanship! Anyways I love this video, subscribed!
Thank you! And wait… they don’t believe in sharing my videos with other people??? I know people who don’t want to share their own knowledge but stuff that’s readily available online… that’s something else haha
Thank you for sharing everything from start to finish. Very helpful, and I look forward to more of your videos. It is so generous and kind of you to share your process. Many thanks.
Wow..The Little Golden Books. Those were books I grew up with!! Wow its cool to see younger generations being fans of a different time era.then they lived in! Like 80s.music too!! Lol
Hello, Thank you so so much for this video and such deep insight and freely and lovingly shared information. Your pride and love for your craft shines through in every moment.
Thank you for taking the time to go over your entire process and make this video! I'm happy you decided to start posting youtube videos about your career because your insight and experiences are very interesting and valuable. I don't go on social media much if at all anymore, but I remember there were times where you looked down your work--as all of us do, but I want you to know that I genuinely love your style (both marks and color). It feels very warm and your shape language is very nice to look at. I love seeing your work evolve and I always enjoy seeing what you make, whatever it is. Or even hearing about a project or idea you're enjoying, even if you never end up putting it on the internet. I'm also considering children's book illustration, so you opening up and talking about your process, experiences, etc. etc. is very helpful. I was too nervous to come up at talk with you when I saw your table last lightbox, maybe next time I'll say hello if you table again when we're all back to in-person conferences/conventions, haha. Anyways, I hope you have a great week/year and congrats on your marriage! Stay safe.

thank you!!
You are refreshingly modest, despite your talent! I just discovered your channel and have been watching all the back videos. They are so helpful. And yes, I love seeing all the color studies!
Thank you so much!
This is so generous and interesting. Thank you so much. 💓

You are so welcome!
Thank you for sharing this! Very interesting to see your process!
That is amazing 🥁❤️. A job well done 🤗
LOL When you mentioned the animated cameo, that episode of Arthur immediately came to mind - even before you put up the image. I remember thinking Matt Damon looked like a monster! LOLOL That being said, I am a caricature artist and I know Matt Damon is really hard to draw.
What an incredible video - so so helpful!! - Thank you for sharing your process for those of us who really want to succeed with this type of work!
Thank you so much :)
This was really wonderful. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
The background music was a little loud at times so, I missed what you were saying.
I am grateful for the time, thought, and work you put into this video.
Thank you! I made sure to correct the music issue in my future videos, please check out my latest videos on picture books! :)
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us! I find this all very helpful. I hope to become an illustrator once my kids are all in school 🤞🏽

This was such a helpful and informative video! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and process. Your art is absolutely stunning! The background music got a bit loud at times so you were a little hard to hear, but otherwise this was great! Looking forward to future videos. Congratulations on the marriage too!
Thank you so much! I'll keep that in mind :)
Thank you. I am writing and illustrating my first children's book and have been so nervous. This video has really put me at ease.
Thank you!
Great Video, we are looking at illustrating our first book and this is very useful! Thank you
You’re welcome!
This was so informative. Great Breakdown. Beautiful Book! Thank you! :D
Glad you enjoyed it!
I was highkey into the “picture books at night” vibes!
Thank you SO much for making this video Anoosha! So so helpful and I especially loved the sketching / color concept segment. Loved it❤
You are so welcome!
So so so insightful, I’m not an illustrator and not really thinking of being one but you had my attention start to finish.
Very well made, you are wonderful !
Thank you!
@@AnooshaSyed noo well kinda lol I meant they don’t think anyone with how-to’s without a price. It’s just silly
I love this video! It's really cool to get a little insight into every step of the process:) also, the colors you used are so beautiful❤
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing everything from start to finish. Very helpful, and I look forward to more of your videos. It is so generous and kind of you to share your process. Many thanks.
Thank you so much!
This was such a great video! So helpful. And your art is so beautiful!
Wow..The Little Golden Books. Those were books I grew up with!! Wow its cool to see younger generations being fans of a different time era.then they lived in! Like 80s.music too!! Lol
Would LOVE a video on composition! 💖💖
I love books and I love the style of your illustrations, so this was a super interesting video to watch! Thanks!

You are so welcome!
So glad I found your channel🌸
Hello, Thank you so so much for this video and such deep insight and freely and lovingly shared information. Your pride and love for your craft shines through in every moment.
Glad it was helpful! :)
Stay safe.
Thank you! Please come by next year if conventions are back on again haha
I just found you. WOW you gave SO much amazing information in this video. Thank you! And side note - you have lovely hands! : )
Wow Congratulations Anoosha. Am so Glad watching. I just joined your Channel. What an awesome share. Thank you for sharing your experience on finding talents. This video is quite insightful. This content was reallllly helpful. I'm a young illustrator myself and struggle with simar issues while now working on my first book commission work. 😣 It was super helpful to see inside your progress and to know that I'm not alone. ☺
Thank you so much!!
Hi! I've read the book, I love both the story and the illustrations! And with you, sharing on the process helped me a lot in understanding picture books. Thank you.
Thank you!
I am so glad I found you! your content is so inspiring! I have always wanted to illustrate books but I didn't know how to go about it. I recently started to use Procreate and I thought to myself, "I want to use this for the rest of my life" LOL Seeing that you use procreate to illustrate for books opened a new window in my life. It was like a math equation Procreate + book illustration = my dream job. Haha thank you for helping me discover this
Alyssa Beck thank you so much!!
