    sir the second operation should be R2--> R2 - 3xR4 and R3--> R3 + 2xR4 , otherwise the second and third row will not become zero .
    please correct me if i am wrong.

    Hey I have a small doubt can u plz clarify it .Is it compulsary to make the 1 st row 1 st element 1 in echlon form if they didnot give 1 number in the question????

      It's better if the first element of the first row is one because it makes it easier to solve the problem and if u happen to stumble across a question in which the first no. is not one then if the second row starts with one then u can interchange it with first row meaning write the second row in the first row's place and vice versa.
      Sorry for the long explanation

    I appreciate your classes Sir, It has been helpful! but I believe that the rank of this matrix is 3, not 2.
    The mistake was made when operating R3+(2)R2 for the third row. Actually -2+(2)3 is equal to 4, not 0. It means that the first, second and fourth number of third row is 0 but the third number is 4.

      a row is non-zero if ALL ELEMENSTS of that row are zero, this is the reason why R2 is non zero row of the reduced matrix

      Echelon form method will work just fine for most of the questions, and if this doesn’t work then you will have to find rank using the definition.

    since rho(A) is supposed to be no. Of non zero rows , in 4:08 a21 is zero how can we consider that row as non-zero row? Am I asking the right question? I seek your guidance sir .

      Zero row is when ALL ELEMENTS in that row are zero.
      And we are counting non-zero rows for rank
