  • Owner bought a used amp from Guitar Center. This could have been a nightmare for most buyers, but he was sending it to me, and I can fix just about anything.
    Note: Guitar Center did make this right for the owner.

    If I was rich, this guy would be my amp tech. Full time.

    Note to viewers: Do not jiggle tubes while pulling them out, esp. if the tube sockets are PCB-mounted as in this case ! Pull them straight out!

    Do you think maybe you can do a compilation video of all the times you explain the difference between machine screws and wood screws?... You know, for future generations?

    Getting a bit addicted to these videos !

    Boy... that is a LOT of seemingly obvious stuff that should have been caught without even opening up that amp. They just had to plug it in. Wow.

    Surprised the amp firing into an open didn’t fry quite a few things.
    Have you upgraded the output transformer on a CC? What do you like? I think the sanecore is probably hindering me from getting the whole Vox picture.

    Always love watching your videos.
    Was hoping to see something similar to what I am dealing with at the moment.
    My AC30C2 which I had for
    10 years now, just doesn’t power up right now and all fuses are ok.
    No smoke, no hiss, no smell, no crackles.. It worked just fine yesterday but today nothing.
    In my attempt to test the wires going to the main switch I damaged the 2 little green thermistors. Can I bypass those for now (I have 2 in order but they will be there in 3 weeks and I have gigs coming).
    Would a bad tube prevent the amp from turning on?
    Thanks in advance.
    If I wasn’t up there in PA I would have you looking at my amp.

      You can bypass them but they are good things to have in circuit. Tubes won’t affect powering on. Are you sure all the fuses are good and that you know where all the fuses are?

      @@PsionicAudio thanks for your quick response, I tested the main which is in the power cord outlet as well as the 2 on the right hand-side of the mother board, visually as well as with my meter for continuity.
      Are there other ones I might have forgot?
      Edit. They’re talking about a fusible link (F3) I might have to check this one out if anything.

    I own a Vox AC30C2 and I’ve had it for about 5-6 years. No problems to speak of but I’m wondering what your thoughts are on swapping the stock power transformer for a Mercury Magnetics replacement?

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  3 роки тому +6

      Only necessary if the stock PT fails. The Mercury is better built, but you won't hear a difference. Some clients have me change them just to know it will be rock solid, but it's a reliability upgrade, not a change in sound/feel.

    On mine, when you change tubes, the old ones appear to have gotten hotter as you move to the right.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  2 роки тому

      The longer ones on the right are EL84s and they get a lot of heat in use.

    • @deanallen927
      @deanallen927 2 роки тому

      @@PsionicAudioI know that. I mean from one EL84 to the next. The logo on the tube gets more discolored as you go from left to right.

    The headline here is shipped from guitar center. They suck. I ordered a amp from them and told them to remove tubes during shipping they didn't and of course the tubes were done from the shipping. I returned it. They have no clue what they are doing. Bankruptcy is their reality

    Is there any way to make this Chinese crap sound more like the original one? Or the diod rectifier killed all and nothing would help?

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  2 роки тому +8

      See the other videos on this amp. It came out great. And the SS rectification is done very well on this model. This "crap" is actually a very well built amp with quality components.
      It was an American at Guitar Center who did all this damage.

      @@PsionicAudio yep, discovered other videos shortly after commenting. Huge respect to your job, knowledge and info on this channel!
      In fact my disappointment is caused by the impressions from the sound of C2. At first I thought that it is only my problem of tweaking the amp or not suitable guitar. But after watching several reviews with recordings I came up to the conclusion that C2 has more plasticish, thin, hard, dry, cheap sound, compared to TBX. Which creates associations with badly Chinese copies) And neither changing the tubes, nor putting alnico blues does not improve the picture, according to the videos.
      Now I see that it's just the strange technical decisions. Whish I could use your services, but I'm too far unfortunately)
      Thanks again!
