I so love this woman. How can one not? Anyone who can sing like this and at the same time backhand Elvis Costello off a barstool quite simply owns my heart. ❤
There was a pocket of time when we had a great number of singer songwriters playing on each others records and the results were always good. Music was much sweeter then.
Mr. Russell had a heart attack just a month or so after this and died the following year. Legend. Bonnie Bramlett's voice has held all these years. Impressive!
"kids" these days have legends of their own in the making.. Marcus King being one of them, many more. Eventually they will go back to look at the past. It always happens that way.
Love this song and she does it way better now than she did way back when. She never has gotten the deserved recognition she so very much should have. A great great singer!
Great female musicians/vocalists were getting very little in those days, especially ones who performed with their husbands. The story remains the same...if a man runs and books his own band he's a great business man. If a woman demands the same respect in business...she's a nit-pickin' B_____. This woman has an insane set of pipes...stellar!
This song always hurts my heart, but today it just rips me in two. RIP Leon, you left us with more music than our hearts can handle. This video performance is a priceless treasure.
I think this was totally spontaneous. The piano player is looking at an open binder with just the chords written out in pen, as if someone just told him what the cords were and he wrote them down quickly. What a great rendition of a song she and Leon wrote and they originally did on a Delaney & Bonnie album. Fantastic.
Man, I just happen to stumble across this being a huge Leon Russell, Delaney and Bonnie fan and a Becca Bramlett fan 65 years old and just watching Leon, staring at her I would love to know what was going through his mind and I wonder if that was his wife Mary Russell next to him he was probably just having flashbacks of Delaney and Bonnie and friends RIP, Mr. Leon Russell musician, singer songwriter wizard you are so missed my friend
...Bonnie Bramlett is fab.u.lous. I used yo hear her name all the time, when i was a kid, in the 70's Was too busy outside playing to really 'listen'...but i am listening n.o.w. 🌼
As a music lover, I am sadden we really don't know or support our legends. Performances like this are raw, classic, pure and simply heartfelt. Losing Walter Brecker (Steely Dan) last week made me fire up my entire collection for endless play. I thank all UA-camrs for the numerous clips of performances, interviews, concerts, and anything on these classics. Thank you so much!
Classy lady, giving Leon the props he earned ! And now let us all keep in mind that not everyone lives to be 87. Get in touch with that long lost friend, go to see that older performer live, and remember, no matter what, life is short. Missing Leon.....
Bonnie❤ One of the most tremendous voices in the best RocknRoll eras of all times! That woman had a voice that could knock your socks off.. I love her!!
Bonnie literally SAVED my musical/spiritual LIFE, in more ways than one!! SOOO grateful for her, her friendship, example, her MANY gifts/talents, humor and LOVE!!!!!!!
May the Love in the Universe Bless you Both. Bonnie Bramlett is a National Treasure. One of the Greats in the Great Universal Church of Rock and Roll. I wrote this for my Beloved Mother's Funeral when she passed on 11/16/18 at the age of almost 97. We buried her in the Church of Rock and Roll which she loved so much. May both She and the Great Leon Russell - Master of Time and Space - Rest in Peace. The Beatitudes of the Church of Rock and Roll. Oh Lord God! Bonnie Bramlett Thank You for your lifetime of works . You lived being the Best Southern Rock , Blues rock ,Country rock ,Folk Rock Singer , Back up Singer , Harmonizer there Was . I loved it and I want to Thank You for this . You were beautiful and Strong and you still are. Peter.
Amazing ...Bonnie Bramlett ,.. it Is YOU Who takes our Breath Away - The Eighth Wonder of the World.-.Breathtakingly Gorgeous to the Eye , So Very Peaceful & Precious To The Ear and to the Soul . Thank you Bonnie and The Great Folks at Music City Roots -The factory.- ..looks like Kevin Mckendree and Danny Flowers on Bonnie's Stage right , Those musicians are ' What Hipness Is ' Our ! Love Miss. Bramlett and to your Powerhouse ( just like Mama ) Daughter, Miss Bekka Bramlett .too. Peace
Man I love this lady. She gets NO exposure and I get she doesn't want it, but I'd love more exposure for such a generational talent. More UA-cam videos, more media coverage and in general more of her music out there. It's so hard to find Bonnie's stuff
she doesn’t need exposure. anyone that knows anything about lady vocalists knows she’s the best. Eric Clapton and George Harrison, Duane Allman followed her wherever they could and played for free just to be with her and Delaney. Put her on their albums
Thank you for sharing this great performance by Bonnie Bramlett. She's one of the best and has given us so many great musical moments as has Leon Russell. It's so good to see this today.
All I can do is let the tears roll down right now. We/I were so fortunate to grow up listening to her, Leon R.I.P. and oh so many more GOD I miss those days.
I was watching a rerun of Roseanne today that she was on and that’s how I initially discovered her years ago. She had a small role on the show and sang on a few episodes. I was floored by her voice and then found out she had an impressive career. If it wasn’t for the show, I would have missed out on discovering this incredible singer.
Somehow the shot of her old friend Leon Russell (who she inspired to sing in the style he did) in the final quarter of his life, fixing his piercing eyes on on Bonnie's achingly poignant performance...while some self-satisfied yutz taps on his glowing cell phone in the edge of shot just sums up everything that is wrong with our culture.
She is 73 today.Her,Delany[R.I.P.] and their friends put out some of the best music ever.Leon Russell, her co-writer on this song,in the audience, was the icing on the cake.Their rhythm section plus Eric Clapton[which was one of their friends],made up Derek and the Dominoes, who put out my favorite album ever, Layla.Bonnie even sounds better here than she did back then.
@@patriciajohnson3017 Fun Fact: What you're speaking of is the coda, which is a totally separate song tagged onto the end and the jury is still out on what you claim.
Damn, people get shit all fucked up. Eric didn't steal anything. Jim Gordon was attached to Rita. Rita wrote it and Jim was sneaking into the studio after everyone left, stealing time to make a solo album. Eric came back into the studio and heard him playing the piece on the piano. He told Gordon he could use the studio if he could have the piece to use as the end of Layla, which was still being worked out. Gordon said OK, not telling him that it was Rita's creation. In the ensuing years of the popularity of the song Layla, Rita wanted her rightful recognition. Which she got when Eric found out the truth. So the ending of Layla, the coda, was written by Rita Coolidge. This was confirmed in an interview by both Eric and Bobby.
Who gave the eulogy? Did Elton say a few words? Wished I could have been there. Have always loved and followed Leon's music/career.......Those 3 tunes the Carpenter's covered sealed the deal for me when it comes to his genius!!
LEON RUSSELL NOT LONG BEFORE HE PASSED ON, SITTING IN THERE ON THIS PERFORMANCE. BONNIE, YOU ALWAYS BRING YOUR HEART OUT IN THE SONGS... THIS SONG MORE.
No matter what her condition was, this performance was real. She felt every last word she sang and it was moving. Live performances don't have to be perfect. That's what makes them so special.
Bonnie is a legend! From her time as a teenage Ikette, and her collaboration with her husband Delaney Bramlett and a classic album "On Tour With Eric Clapton" after they were the opening act for Derek and the Dominos, I think she got recognized. Only younger "pop" fans are unaware of her!
Leon the man is a Legend you see pics in the '70s of him in the background with the likes of Robbie Robinson, Lennon, Harrison Clapton, Ronnie Lane the list goes on its impressive say the least. and play pretty much anything you put in his hand or some strange instrument like the hornucopian dronepipe, The french horn [Lol], and have the basics down in about an hour..Anyhow Legend and good close friend of George Harrisons and George was very particular who he let in his small circle of friends being an X Beatle and having fame beyond belief is probably a bit hard on who really is your friend and they were very close friends for years so that tells you more about him than anything anyone ever said about him.
Roseanne I always wondered what ever happened to bonnie from the show. I always enjoyed her singing so much. How come she never became a superstar with that voice? Anyway thank you so much for posting these videos.
Loved all this music back in the 60's 70's. Still have the vinyl. Loved watching her on Rosanne. She played on the credits sometimes, awesome.
Yes. I have Delaney, Bonnie and Friends, also Joe Cocker, Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Great times!
There was only one Bonnie Bramlett and only one Leon Russell.
Have mercy. This song.
I can’t tell you how important the music of Delaney and Bonnie and Leon Russel was to this 63 yr old as I embarked upon my life in music!
Respect!
As a kid, around '79 or '80 ... with my older brother, I saw Leon Russel, Willie Nelson, and Lynn Anderson on stage - all together.
Can you just imagine all the memories that are flashing through Leon's mind when Bonnie is singing this song! R I P Leon
Mr. Russell had a heart attack just a month or so after this and died the following year. Legend. Bonnie Bramlett's voice has held all these years. Impressive!
So sad that kids these days don't know about these giants ( Leon & Bonnie). They were the cutting edge of some of the best music of ANY generation.
I know some young people that love these two. It really depends on what kind of music they are into or if they explore musical eras and genres.
Stevie Nicks is what they consider as deep as it gets in the old school. No clue.
"kids" these days have legends of their own in the making.. Marcus King being one of them, many more. Eventually they will go back to look at the past. It always happens that way.
Amen!!
It's called Soul Music. Her hubby was a great singer too Delaney.
Love this song and she does it way better now than she did way back when. She never has gotten the deserved recognition she so very much should have. A great great singer!

Just have to love her voice. You're right. She never got the recognition that she so rightly deserved.
Amazing I loved her on Rosanne
true, but the people who know, knew
Agree. Tragic how overlooked her and Delaney's work is.
This song always hurts my heart, but today it just rips me in two. RIP Leon, you left us with more music than our hearts can handle. This video performance is a priceless treasure.
I’m sobbing. My gorgeous Leon Russell sitting in the front row. Wow !!!!

The pianists arrangement is magical
The "music" on the piano is nothing but scribbled notes. He was winging it. Great job!!
What a heart wrenching rendition, she emptied her heart and soul into this song while Leon sat and took it like a man without tears, RIP.

Leon didn't live to be 87. He died at age 74. Sure wish he were living to 87 he's still be here today.
All too true indeed

Her voice is one of a kind. She's amazing. What an inspiration.

Love getting my heart broken like this, listening to Bonnie.
I met her and got to hang out with her after a show that her and her band played in Massachusetts, she's one of the greats!!!
Thank you for sharing this great performance by Bonnie Bramlett. She's one of the best and has given us so many great musical moments as has Leon Russell. It's so good to see this today.
Wow! Bonnie's still got it... she and her daughter Bekka are the stars in the heaven as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for posting!
Bekka sounds so much like her mother. Love them both.
