Tearing Down the Old Milk House/Topping off the Silo/Chopping Corn/Whitewashing

- The Silo is at the point where we have to slowly add a load, wait for it to settle, and then add just a little more until we finally call it full. While we're waiting for it to settle, we decided to share some footage we took earlier of the major change we made to the farm. The original milk house was in very bad shape and was a big yellow eye sore in the yard. We had wanted to tear it down for a while, but the power pole that was leaning against it was in very bad shape and needed to be replaced first. Finding an electrician was a challenge, but we finally found one to move the overhead wires. Our good friend, Conner, came with his mini-excavator and in just 5 minutes, the old milk house was just a pile of wood.
Back on Oct. 6, we had the barn whitewashed which always makes it look fresh and clean. Alan decided to chop corn from our field with the latest planted corn to top off the silo some more. The International 1256 and New Holland 790 Chopper filled a load pretty fast, but the Case 830 had a bit of a breakdown with a starter not working. So, it was up to the other Case 830 to run the blower and the 820 John Deere to run the chopper box. It didn't even take a full load and it was full again, so we're waiting to let it settle some more.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.
Just watched the milk house tear down. One era ends,,,another begins. Keep moving forward.
Wow the farm is looking great the white paint makes it look like a different place amazing its alot of work taking over old run down farm cleening a old farm is lots of work
Haha chickens are always right their when stuff is turned over haha
My grandfather used to carry pails of milk to the milk house, fill cans then put the cans in a water bath chiller tank to cool the milk. It wasn’t until I was in high school that he built a new milk house with a bulk tank and added a dump station and pipeline. Watching you chop corn, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful fall colors. Reminded me how much I miss the fall in NY state. Fall air has a very distinctive smell, very earthy. Out here in west Texas there are almost no trees and we seldom get fall weather. It usually goes from damn hot to damn cold. Those bricks you saved will always bring back fond memories of the old milk house and the folks who farmed before you. Thanks for the video.
I miss blowing corn silage. Now it's just bunker's where I work
Good video, Conner can sure handle that machine efficiently.
Fortunate Conner wasn't closer when the chimney top fell. When you mount the basketball hoop on the pole consider mounting it lower down so the smaller children can get more of the joy of it.
That's the plan until they get a bit taller.
Looks great with that old shed gone
Fresh whitewash always brightens things up. I was so blinded that I didn't see the old Millhouse was gone....
Looking good Alan with the old building gone and the new white wash.
Great to see new video. Hope to have a lot of improvements and great new projects!!!
He did a great job at keeping the debris contained. Yep, just doesn't seem right to chop corn and not have a break down.
Definitely was time for that building to go! Looks great
Even though the building was no longer useful, it is sad to see it go. Your ancestors were more than likely very proud of that milk house at one time. As my Dad used to say, "Time brings changes."
Yes I admit I was tearing up a bit. We also tried to save as many bricks as we could to use for something, maybe a walkway or something.
I’m watching you while I walk in our cows for milking, it’s a 25 mins walk Great video thank you 🇮🇪
Maybe one of those half moon vinyl " tent like " buildings would be the most economical way to put up a machine shed. Brian Brown has one there in Ohio.
Another very interesting video
Oh man! I knew something was different about the yard but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Looks nice and cleaned up now, whitewash looks good too.
It really looks nice where the old dairy was. So much bigger without it. Great job.
It’s amazing how strong that building was
Great content, filling those tower silos is quite a challenge.
Really looks great. Be Careful with Harvest 😊
Great content love it
Awesome video
Those 1960s Case tractors seem like they were quite a good value back in the day, and still holding up. Sort of surprised we didn't have them on the farm when I was a kid (there was a 1930s Case before my time) but I think it was due more to not having Case farm dealers near enough for parts. Ferguson, AC, Oliver, and Farmall filled our 'fleet'.
thanks for sharing. Hope your enjoying all of your improvements lots of hard work one thing for sure.. farmer s job is never done.. take care.. see you in the next one
Looks great with the shed gone.
Hopefully in the future you can
haul scrap farm machinery out
Fix up or tear down other old
buildings. You have a beautiful
farm well worth the extra effort.
Yep I noticed. Betcha glad and also sad about it being gone
❤
Looking good and God bless yall
Another great video A&J
We just tore down our old dairy barn. Looked into restoring it. Cost alot of money. Still wouldn't be practical to use when finished. Sad to see it go
Yeah it's hard to see the old buildings go downhill.
Glad harvest is going good except for starter trouble on the 830 case hope you continue to have a safe harvest
I feel weirdly self-righteous on my comment this morning before this uploaded.
thank you
One of the only farm person I have aeen holding ear protection - I started wearing my 10 years ago - was losing my hearing.
must be a little chilly Paul has a jacket on lol
👌
shame would have lasted another 100 years 😁
I after 3 days of being down there would like to offer you and your family a place to stay for the 2023 World Dairy Expo...I have heard in past video you would like to attend! I live about 45/50 minutes from the Expo stay in touch for next year!
That's very kind of you to offer! Yup, Jen had the Livestream of the dairy shows on every day this week.
@@trinitydairy I absolutely am a 100% firm on that offer...love your channel bought my Dad a Trinity Dairy sweatshirt for Christmas present last year...your whole family is welcome anytime!!
my dad tore down a old smoke house once we cut it up and burned the wood
I know that feeling about taking an old building out of your farmyard, I had an old house and Barn burnt down about a year and half ago, they were long due to be done, the old house had a crawl space that I now use for burn pit, do you burn your garbage or do you have a dumpster? Barn looks great 👍🚜
We have a dumpster
Fresh whitewash sure brightens up a barn👍. Are you going to chop all the corn or will you be able to save some to pick for ear corn?
I think I'll have some to pick, depends on what fits it the bag.
👍👍#
Enjoying all the videos. Was the milkhouse not attached to the barn or had it been moved?
It was always separate from the barn, there never was a bulk tank, in there, just can milk.
There's some history behind it then. What year do you think it was built?
White washing is becoming a thing of the past. My uncle used to do it.
👍👍🐄🐄
which 830 runs better I know the two 730 my grandpa had one always pulled a little better than the other one 1256 sounds good
The one without the cab, seems to run a little better.
I think i saw sparks comin out of that one to. Must be a carb. problem or just an old stack.
They're both Diesels, so no carb, just cleaning out the carbon. Lol
@@trinitydairy oh thats right those were diesels. Hmm, possibly running to hot??
@@trinitydairy running out the carbon i like that answer 😆
Temp gauge was around 200
@@trinitydairy hmm, might be a blow by around the injectors? I'll ask my uncle.
Is that the same field that you plowed in the spring time
Yes
Just a thought, if you had a PO box viewers would send you cool stuff and maybe a little cash. Personally I don't trust Pay Pal as I've had scammers use them on undelivered merchandise and its trouble to get it resolved.
We do have a PO Box, it's in our "about" section on our channel.
what happened to the 560? Have not seen it in any videos lately
It has a bad valve so it's just not running well.
Liked and subscribe sir
Is there a new house on your property?
There is one of those small park model trailers. Jen's parents are having some health issues so now her parents are on the farm.
What size is your silo?
12x50
@@trinitydairy growing up we had a 10×40 that was put high moisture ground ear corn in.
Where is the puppy?
He likes to run away, so it's hard to film with him on the leash.
Tear down the other garage and build a new high shop so you can really work and store equipment then start milking 50 more cows lol
