"The Pump! The Pump, the Pump!" Haven't seen this since it aired, but that always stuck me. I forgot how Murphy, Kazurinsky and Rosato started spraying each other, too.
This was written by Michael O’Donoghue. It was originally rejected by Lorne Michaels but accepted by Dick Ebersol when MO’D briefly produced SNL in 81.
I know the flow is a bit choppy, but I think this is just gold. SNL humor under Michaels is often repetitive, "Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger" or "Penis, penis, penis." While Murphy, Rosato, and Kazurinsky may only have to sing "The Pump!" over and over, they do it so well, and have so much fun with each other doing it, that I have remembered this skit with reverence for two generations. It's damn catchy and you're going to be humming "The Pump! The Pump THE PUMP!" today. Hopefully without the end result of institutionalization.
@@brianwolters7560 The 80-84 era is when I first started REALLY watching SNL. By that time, I was pretty much old enough to "get" the humor. By the way...revisiting these old clips makes me realize just how "strapped up" Mary Gross was! Good Lord, that woman had a body on her! 😛
No, the dark ages were when Jean Doumanian was running the show. More than likely Saturday Night Live wouldn't still be on the air if it wasn't for Dick Ebersol.

1:26 That's hilarious how Eddie, Tim, and Tony start losing it! LMAO
This is one of my favorites...and I can't say why...maybe because "The Pump" was just so silly...
I agree and it looked like Eddie Murphy, Tim Kazurinsky, and Tony Rosato were having a great time spraying one another with water lol.

i love her voice
R I P Tony Rosato
Michael O' Donoghue was a genius. It's too bad that SNL doesn't have writers like this anymore!

Yes...this!!! I am one of the few who really loved 80-84 SNL. Sure, 80-81 was rough but 81-84 was gold to me.

I thought I was the only one who thought Mary was really well endowed. I would've never known it if she just played Alfalfa
The pump.
This clips been up over 6 years and only 5281 views??? This is contains more comedic gold than the last ten years of SNL
Often when using some kind of pump spray, I think of this...
Hey, if it's good enough for Steve McQueen...
I used to watch every episode of SNL in this era and I don't remember seeing Christine Ebersole once. How did this get past me?
She was only in the 81-82 season...she didn't get enough screen time...She did a great "Mrs. Andy Rooney" on "A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney" skit...
you can Christine ebersole on mike hearts abishola now
you can see
bob hearts abishola,
Lung cancer AND syphilis? What bad luck!
Ahh this is better comedy than SNL last 10 years!
I assumed this skit was during the SNL dark ages.
That was the 81-82 season and there were many good moments mixed in with the dark spots...I think the "George Kennedy" episode was quite strong...

A shot above the FDA's bow.
2:00 Aw, c'mon, Joe (Piscopo), let Mary kiss you! She seems to REALLY want to kiss him.
