Love it when you said you always leave the woods cleaner than you found it! Too many need to learn this.

Agreed, I hate seeing the woods full of garbage. I hunt on public land and during hunting season you can tell where everyone has been hunting. Snack wrappers, tin cans and bottles everywhere. I usually spend the first hunt or two picking up on my way out.

I was in Idaho Southeast Idaho up I-15 to the North almost to Montana in an area called medicine Lodge.
We were just kind of scouting out the place driving on a few logging roads. Found a place we thought we could hunt and flush some deer out of some of the groves of trees. I walked up a draw I mean walked a long damn way up this draw. I don't know how high I was but it was pretty high. Not an incredibly difficult walk no trail I was just blazing my own.
But anyway I get way up the draw and decide to sit down and rest for a minute. Built a little fire to warm myself up a little bit. Make a small pot of coffee. Then I noticed about five water bottles just sitting there about 5 yards away from where I was.
These were those little individual water bottles. The ones that once you're done using them you can smash them down to make them easier to carry. Someone had just left a pile of them out there who knows why. I carried them out though
However I may have people mad at me about this but I'm kind of glad that back in the day when my dad was young and of course further back people also left things out in the woods. Back then there was really no notion of carrying your stuff out. I'm talking about old pop bottles maybe something really good like a pocket knife, old tobacco tins what have you. I have a lifetime of memories in those old items that our ancestors left out there. Not saying that people should leave their junk out in the woods. Then again I have had a ton of fun finding old items out in the woods.
A while back I found a beer can. Talking ancient beer can. The kind you had to take a can opener and puncture two holes in it across from each other. That way you had one to drink from and another one to let air in so that the beer would actually come out. No pop tops nothing. And the tin is so strong the can is so strong you probably couldn't dent it with a 3 lb mallet.
Of course by picking up these antique treasures I am leaving the woods better than I found them. And I am collecting a treasure trove of items that remind me of good times out in the woods.
Interestingly enough I've had people get annoyed with me for a cleaning stuff up. We do a lot of fishing in a reservoir east of Idaho falls towards Jackson hole called ririe reservoir. Kind of reminds me of a large river as it winds through canyons where it makes the water especially deep. They originally just Damned up a creek But once it started backing up the water it became very deep we've had places where our depth finder has bottomed out at 150 to 250 ft And it's likely still deeper than that. It winds through a canyon that's fairly wide but fairly deep thus the deep water over the years.
Anyway in the last years when we've had drought conditions the water has dropped significantly. The Banks are heavily lined with lava rock to try to mitigate erosion. We live in a high desert area there where there was lots of volcanic activity and lava rock is used for a lot. Quite a few old houses built from lava rock very cool.
Anyway some years when the water was down I'd spend time up on the banks cleaning up. Because the bank is lined with lava rock there was a lot of the junk caught up on the bank in the rock. It's kind of like a natural trap for junk because once it settles down into that rock bank it really doesn't move.
At any rate my dad and my cousin would big extremely pissed and annoyed because I was up cleaning up junk rather than fishing. I just wanted to clean stuff up didn't care as much about fishing. I've done a ton of fishing in my life and caught a lot of fish and I could forgo catching a few fish that day in place of cleaning up junk that at some point would be covered again with water. Golden opportunity to clean crap out of the water. And we're talking lots of crap. Like those cheap styrofoam coolers all over the place.
Plus you get opportunities to find treasures that you can use later on. Found a whole lot of fishing lures. once in a while you find a really nice piece of equipment like a Gerber or a Leatherman or something of that nature. Find lots of things that you can use. And as I've said before about finding antique treasures you find those as well. However that one thing that did creep me out a little bit was watching out for rattlesnakes. There are tons of rattlesnakes up there and wandering around picking stuff up on a rock lined bank your just looking to run into a rattlesnake. Although I never did and that situation. But you do see a few.
They also have several other snakes up there there's a big some kind of water snake that is prevalent up there. I think it feeds and no small part rattlesnakes.
Anyway I guess I'm saying make it a fun game finding trash in the woods. Never ending supply of cool antiques. Many of them not worth a lot of money but bring up good memories. Certainly worth keeping in your man cave. The antiques that you find in the woods are the same kind of things that you would bring into the woods.

I understand where you're coming from. I've found a bunch of cool stuff that people have tossed out in the woods.....even a fold up hunting chair! I hate seeing it but like you, I love a good find.

Thank you Dusty for your service. I am not a survivalist but am indeed a prepper. However, I think your go to items could also be helpful for those of us who live in colder climates. I am from The Great State of Maine and in winter most of us carry extra items to keep us warm and comfortable in case of an accident.
ALSO, I have several pair of the rubber palmed gloves from Dollar Tree. I keep a pair in my car to use when pumping gas, a pair for when I use cleaners at home, and another pair plus face mask when cleaning kitty litter boxes.

I started carrying a little prepped bag with me about a year ago. After 2020 I decided having at least a little in the way of survival on me at all times would be a good idea. I found your wife’s channel and love her! She’s so cute! I’ve started building my pantry and adding some means of self sufficiency around the house. I actually got to use my backup battery this summer when there was a rolling blackout. I was able to keep me and my dogs cool with a box fan and my fridge plugged in until the power came back on.
I used to think Prepping was conspiracy nonsense. Wanna be military people hoping for some Red Dawn nonsense. But the older I get the more I realize the system we rely on is terribly faulty, and prepping is really about just being able to take care of yourself every time that system fails.

Thank you for sharing all of that information. I would like to see a video on how to start a fire. I am a city girl, so I don't know anything about survival skills. It's something I should learn.

I'm glad to see such a great family assisting others by showing how to prepare. Many content creators are just talking about various problems and not giving any kind of solutions. Many thanks, to both you and Brooke for your wonderful content. I am looking forward to many other videos. Plus your boys are adorable...just sayin!

New subscriber here. Wow that's a lot of good stuff to have. Appreciate all the hard work. This has been very helpful. My husband was a hunter when he was younger. He passed away sixteen years ago. He is dearly missed. Fun fact: In the 50's 60's and 70's he kept his family going by hunting many many rabbits on their 6 acre ranch. His mom could use that meat to make so many things for lunch and dinner. Thanks again ...I will pass your channel to others. Sincerely, Debbie and Dexter-Dog my silly rescued Chihuahua companion living a quiet crafty life in southern California. 👍👍✝️🇺🇸

Kind of an American tradition during the hard times. Many young men during the depression had to feed their families. I've read accounts of mothers handing their sons one or two bullets And telling them to come home with me or their brothers and sisters would go hungry that night.
Built a lot of character I bet your husband was a great man full of character and knowledge and wisdom.
My dad actually grew up in a one room cabin till he was about 10, no electricity telephone or running water.
I knew many guys that grew up and train cars. When the railroad would want to get rid of some of their older train cars people would buy them and roll them onto their property. Put them on a foundation whatever they could build and voila there was their home. We're not that far back from times when people had no TV radio running water telephone who had to go out and find their own fun and also go out and hunt and trap and fish and help their families out.
Fortunately when my dad was younger much of my grandpa's ranch was a swamp. I grew up on the high desert on the Snake River plane. The South work in the North fork of the Snake River came together just north and east of my house. There was a back channel with a Snake River that ran from high up on the South fork down wound all the way through my county and went right through my grandpa's ranch. It dumped into the main channel of the river again just down for my ranch.
Anyway The ranch was mostly sloughs And they were full of huge fish. Not just big fish stories there are pictures. 10 15 20 lb trout. My grandpa caught one one time I brought it home and there was a snake and a mouse in it. My great grandmother wouldn't touch it.
But plenty of opportunities to bring home food for your family. Go out to work the ranch and leave several fishing poles in the slew to grab after work.
Anyway cool story about your husband helping feed his family.
There are certainly a few stories out there like that.
