Duane has been my favorite guitar player since my older brother payed Blue Sky on my parents console stereo when i was 12 years old,,,that was 51 years agio and his playing still gives me goose bumps!!! Great guitar and thanks for sharing...enjoy it!
Yes, Duane is one of my all time heros as well ! Wish we were able to hear more music from him, sometimes I wonder what music he would have made post accident… Greatful that we have so much to listen to that he was able to record
His name is Kirk West, talked to him not long ago, he's got Kirk West Photography in Macon. I think his involvement spans 40 years (in between breaks)with the Allman Bros. I'm a year or two younger @ 71, the cat's been around, a real cool dude!! @@mikemenzamusic
I made the Allman Bros "73 Iowa City concert, some say it was one of the best. I still can't get over the quality guitar work you and your Dad did with Dion!! Sweet to say the least, Keep rocking @@mikemenzamusic
For Gold Tops the ABB one stands out the most to me. Plenty of other cool ones have been, but this is the #1. We should all have a great Gold Top to play on. I own an R8 that's my #1 but I can make room for Goldie lol. Have to save some more cash first lol. Cool vid and by the way, I played Live At Filmour East so many times that I wore out all the grooves making it unplayable. My top 10 I have to have on a deserted Island.
The pick up covers are chrome instead of nickel. Gold Tops color usually oxidized into a blueish green unless they are refinished and thats not a 57 case.
They had to route the cable channel for one piece bodies with a long bit coming from through the output jack hole which is why the route is cylindrical. On a maple top they would route the mahogany before the cap was glued on so the route is square.
Wait! The old ones always had their pickups level flush with the pickup up rings. This guitar appears as if it were USA made Gibson model, not a Custom Shop Gibson
@@mikemenzamusic they ain't bad running through a Marshall either. PAFs in the Bursts get all the attention, but for my money they sound like they were tailor made for 335 bodies. Especially the ones that are slightly under-wound, like the earlier examples you'd find in the '57s. That slightly scooped character evens out the midrange that semihollows produce. They have that touch sensitivity that feels more like a single coil than a modern humbucker, and they can sing for days.
@@joemenza6633 I see it is still on the schedule, but no longer has a date. I have not heard from Bonnie or Gary, I think it must be a scheduling conflict. I hope they can get the date sorted out. All the best! ~Artie
As good As Duane and Dickey's Les Paul tone is on the Fillmore Album, they were far and away from being "the first people in the world" to master and take the PAF equipped Les Paul to the next level. Clapton displayed it 5 years earlier all over the Beano Album released in 1966... Not to mention Peter Green showing mastery of it since 1967, and Jeff Beck all over the Truth Album in 1968. This is not to diminish Duane and Dickey's contribution, only to say that they were not even close to being the 1st to master the PAF Les Paul.
They were all great! But I think that Duane Allman and Dickey Betts took the tone to the next level in a live setting. Very pure clean and crisp tone, not just distortion…
It's not the guitar, it's the musician! Sure what instrument you use has an effect on the feel when you play and the output tone as does the amp and the speakers but the substance comes from the person playing the instrument. Stop worshipping guitars! You could play an under $100 guitar and as long as the setup is good and the way you like, pretty much you will sound about the same as when you use a $40,000 guitar. I mean, yes the pickups will make a difference but not enough to be actually noticed by most people. Be honest! People deliberately create a high value market for certain guitars. Purchasing one of them will not endow them nor you or I with an improvement in our playing. Practicing and talent make you able to play advanced music and to play it well! - Peter age 74
I agree that a lot of the tone is from the player ! Putting soul into every note. But I have to admit the sound that comes out of vintage gear is amazing, and I want to pass this excitement and knowledge along to future generations. Vintage guitars should be valued, they are a huge part of music history!
We're not worshiping the guitars... we worship the musicians and the music they made using the instruments that were available during that wondrous time. The guitar's "value" is a reflection of its sound, quality, history, and rarity. A Tiffany lamp throws the same light as a Walmart lamp... but which would you rathe have in your living room?

And Dickey Betts wrote and sang Blue Sky
You're right the guitar tone on the Fillmore East Live recordings must have had those valves working overtime .
Oh yea !!
That 57 is in astonishingly great condition.
Yes it is !
‘57 Goldtop…the burst killer.
That's very cool!! A classmate was the tour manager for the Allman Bros, pretty wild!! Keep rockin'
That’s awesome !! Around what time period were they the tour manager ?

@bgivco that is wild ! I could only imagine what it was like to be there ! And thanks so much man ! We had a blast playing on that album !
Peter Green and Danny Kirwan did it in1968, Isaw them then 2 Les Pauls PG:s " Greeny " and Danny on Gold top, Customs and Bursts...
That must have been an amazing show !!
Got that exact same one. Great guitar!
Wow the condition of this Les Paul is so good, in fact it looks like a reissue. I bet their is only a little bit of lacquer checking
Sweet Les Paul Goldtop man.
Thanks man !!
Liked and Subscribed. EXCELLENT Video. Thank you. Sky Dog was AMAZING.
Thank you so much !! Skydog is one of my all time heros… took music to the next level !
You are 110 percent correct. Your videos are FANTASTIC. EXCELLENT insights and information.

Much appreciated man ! I am the same way with the Filmore East Album, one of my favorites of all time ! They hit a magical note that night…
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend also what is your favorite year from the 2010s ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks ! Not sure what my favorite year is, I’ll have to think about that
Thats a gem and very mint looking, you could build a house for that I think, you're a lucky guy :)
Yea it was heck of a find !
I’ve been listening to the Fillmore East album since it came out. Duane’s solo on Stormy Monday is the best guitar solo in history….
Yeah when Duane got the 59. He swapped the pickups with the 57. In his new 59. Killer tone
That’s amazing ! I did not know that, could not let go of the tone from those pickups !
this guy was wasted on bud still did a great video love the allman brothers

I love my Goldie .

Exactly!
Like on Les Paul Specials.

It IS a USA made Gibson, not a Custom Shop Gibson.
Is it a "real" Allman's Les Paul with the additional carve-out in the back? I wonder how many guitars they did that to?
Show de bola mais um inscrito 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Nice review and THANKS for not playing it through pedals. When people demo guitars they always ruin the tone of the guitar with too much distortion.
Yes ! I agree, I don’t like playing vintage Les Pauls through any pedals, ruins the sweet tone !
Snowy White's great guitar was a '57 Gold Top.
Nice sound came out of that guitar too !
That guitar sang - I can't believe he sold it.@@mikemenzamusic
@@NigelTufnel612Yea he should have kept it, the tone is amazing. I wonder who bought it ?
No idea:ua-cam.com/video/PvPusN51obg/v-deo.html
You can keep the 58/59 Bursts, I'll take a '57 Gold Top over one any day.
Although 🤔…, I'd probably take a '62-64 ES-335 over both of those.
Yea 62 ES 335’s are awesome too ! The tone on those guitars are so clean and perfect for the blues

Let's not forget John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful in 1965. Probably one of the first major acts to use a Gibson Les Paul.
Let's not forget what Les Paul himself did with it.
Mike Bloomfield.

Vintage, 100% Original in very clean condition
Thats a reissue.. .. still got the new indentations on the inside of the case ..
No it’s not, it’s in amazing condition from 1957. 100% Original…
That’s not a new case. 😂
No it is not - look at the top carve - Gibson cannot replicate the original tops even in the R guitars.
