My Male Bird Laid an Egg?

- It was funny when I saw an egg on Quishna's feathers. I thought maybe Quishna laid an egg and he's a female. But after a while, I realised why. Then I have to do something to help this helpless guy to take that egg off.

G'day! We're from Australia with 3 native cockatiels.
Ana: Female, DOB 27/09/2020
Ana is a grey pearl cockatiel and she was bald as she was abused by her parents before she's 3 weeks old. She's timid and can be easily scared.
Lemon: Female, DOB 29/10/2020
Lemon is a pied lutino cockatiel with grey pattern on the right wing. Lemon is naughty and lively. He can't leave people even for one moment, he is unable to stay in the cage for too long.
Quishna: Male DOB 07/12/2020
Quishna is a pied lutino as well with grey pattern on the left wing. Quishna is the youngest one and he/she is smart and proud - never allow people to touch but he / she is gradually becoming the lead of the 3.
We live as a family, eat and play together!

Hi guys, I didn’t expect this video gained so many views when I was filming this. Previous viewers are more likely to be able to understand why this happened. A couples things to be clarified:
1. Quishna is a male cockatiel for sure.
2. Male cockatiels help females hatching eggs.
3. Quishna never hatched eggs before so he might sit a little bit hard on the eggs and one of them cracked and stuck on the feathers of Quishna’s belly.
4. I never saw an egg could stick on any birds’ belly. I thought Quishna laid an egg after seeing this.
5. Actually the stuck egg was removed safely from Quishna and Quishna got better quickly after 2 days.
6. The removed egg can’t be hatched as it had a hole on it.

It might have been better to use a cotton bud and just moisten the part that was stuck instead of the whole egg. In case it was stuck because of some other reason (such as a bit of dried poo) . I have seen that happen. Then there’s less chance of ruining the egg. Use the washcloth under him so that when the egg comes off it doesn’t break. But in this case there was already a hole in it so no further harm done. I am amazed at how gentle he was about being handled even though he’s a breeding bird. Lots of times that isn’t the case!

I think the egg just got stuck to Quishna since he was sitting on it for so long.

This happened to my lovebird. She was able to remove it herself after a couple days. We initially thought she was egg bound but it was more on her belly than cloaca and she was moving around normally. She was not hand raised so trying to grab her makes her more stressed than simply letting her handle it herself. She’s laid dozens of eggs (unfertilized) and this was the only time we worried.
Finally found someone knows what’s happening. Thanks for sharing your bird’s story

@@astro2693 First of all, they are not made in such a way that they remain locked in such an iron cage where they cannot get a place to fly for the rest of their life and their wings come only to fly and for some reason the birds do not come in the open sky. I like to fly relatively by being locked inside a 1 feet room, how happy will you be if you are locked in a room for the rest of your life, you will not be happy at all during the lock down period of your corona remember you .If you love birds so much, then you put grains in the open for someone, many birds who are hungry will eat that song and you can also keep water for them, it is a belief not to keep them closed.is selfish🙂🙏

This happened to my pet budgie about 5 times already (she lays a lot of eggs,currently her record is 45 eggs lol) and each time it wasn't because of the usual issue that the yolk leaked and stiffened up the bird's feathers,but because she pooped while incubating and the poop stiffened and connected her to her egg. It's pretty nasty and has happened so many times, I don't know how she still keeps doing it lol
she sounds like a chronic egg layer, please ask avian vet for help if you haven't. that condition will kill a bird if left untreated

this happened to my bird sophie and i was really worried but it came off after a quick shower. apparently it happens when the egg cracks while the bird is sitting on it and the yolk leaks out and dries to their feathers.

@@DesiCricketUK most cockatiels will usually lay a clutch every so often. the bird that i mentioned above has a new clutch about every two months and she lays 3 eggs every time

My grandmother was given two cockatiels back when my cousin and I were real young (Gram lived a couple houses down so we were there a lot). She didn't know much about them so the person who gave them explained their care to her and she loved those birds. Since I had birds às pets already she allowed me totame them. They were already named (Hansel and Gretel) and therefore we assumed that their sex corresponded with their names.... Well, we did..... until we heard a loud squak and all turned to the perch/cage/habitat set up, and watched as Hansel squeezed two small eggs out....

My girl budgie had this happen to her once. She was flying around with an egg dangling from her belly, it was one of the funniest sights I've seen lol

The already hatched egg (not by Quishna) broke and the liquid inside went on his feathers so it got stuck

I'm not quite sure how an egg sticking to a bird would be a genetic thing. I'm genuinely curious what your idea for this might've been.
It's just the egg had a puncture and some of rhe liquid seeped put and dried the egg to the bird's feathers.

i was scared there for a minute same thing happened to some of my hens n roosters in the 90's mom and me crushed up oyster shells for extra calcium and magnesium for them to lay stronger eggs that wont break when laying i hope Quishna is doing ok this got me so worried
I had to do the same for my hens, too. Sometimes the shells would come out thin otherwise and when they would sit, an egg would get crushed and they would get sticky. We had to wash off the eggy mess.

OMG this JUST happened to my love bird (a female so it wasnt quite as confusing lol) but yea this literally just happened this week. She was even trying to fly with the egg stuck to her and it was weighing her down lol. it was kinda funny but obviously i had to get it off of her. And this is a territorial mama-bird who does not like to be touched and even less-so will she let me handle her when she's in hormonal mama-bear mode. I had to use gloves to pick her up and gently remove the egg. (Which yes the egg had cracked and some of the goopy sticky egg-white had stuck it to her feathers) a couple feathers did come out but i was as careful as i could be with her trying to bite me thru my gloves. lol

Haha Ive had to remove a stuck egg like that many times. I usually hold my lovebird and run warm water on her belly. She hates it, but it works.

In school I wanted a hamster. My mom said ok as long as I got the male hamster a school mate was giving away. Well 6 days later my male hamster decided to give birth to nine little ones. Mom wasn't too happy.
After they were weened two of them decided to always go to her when let out of their cage. She claimed she wanted to have nothing to do with them, but it was funny how they would curl up in her lap while she knitted.

as a bird keeper myself iv seen this once or twice sometimes the birds crack an egg maybe not deliberately but sometimes it will be anyway once the egg is cracked and the bird sits on it the egg leaks out and sticks to the feathers iv had this happen with budgies in the past
