This song will always hold a special place in my heart. On September 27th, the day it was released, some very traumatic things happened in my life, and this song helped me get through that terrible time. Thanks Dev for all you do
I'm so grateful that Devin made this album so positive (and that I found my way to it). I need positive music these days.
Very moving absolutely incredible thanku so much love an God bless always x x x x
Love All India Radio & Martin Kennedy ♥️
2023 September was for me a hard month mentally. And when Devin released Call of the Void some mental peace came in. 🙌
This is the song from this album that touches my heart the most. I enjoyed the initial version but this one really perfects it. It's just so heartfelt and emotive
On a lighter note and if you wanna laugh....
Messed up thoughts that you would never act upon...The Bill Burr comedy bit came to mind ...."Hey lady are these your muffins???"
Appreciate you shedding some insight on your work. Much obliged Sir.
I really love this track, and when I play it in the car, I can hear my oldest son (7 years old) singing along to it. I think the official video of just the train going through the mountains is a perfect ambience to it all.
My favourite song on the album.
This song was the soundtrack to my vacation in Spain. The idea of the Call of The Void is also known as the Imp Of The Perverse. That feeling that tells you to push someone of a top of a building for no reason and also the example Devin gives.
Such a moving song.
I really enjoy All India Radio and it tickles me that his work was able to reach someone as accomplished as you and lead you to another wonderful piece. I ordered Lightwork early on and when it finally arrived I was so tied up with other parts of life I just shelved it. Only recently have I been able to get it out and play it. Great stuff, Devin, seriously.
Those intrusive thoughts can be a sign of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder when they begin to interfere with daily functioning.
To answer the song's question though - Yes. God, yes. We're out here and we're all feeling the same thing too. And even though we don't know each other personally we're connected in more ways than we can even imagine. This song, and this music recognizes the pain with us, a select group of us who can't explain to anyone else why it hits us the way it does, but that's OK. It's our frequency, our affinity for music like this. No better or worse than anyone else's tastes. I'm just grateful I have online groups of all you friends-I-have-yet-to-meet-but-may-never-meet to share these amazing epiphanies with. Keep being the lightworkers you are.
This one for me was the earworm on this album; it stayed with me for days after I saw the video for the first time.
This song was the first one off the album to resonate with me. Everytime I felt I was anxious driving to work I would crank it up and yell Dont ya Freak Out!! Along with the song. It really helps. As I said on the Lightworker video, you are indeed a Lightworker because you are helping people with depression, anxiety and PTSD from that fucked up year that we will not speak of. Lol! Thank you for ALL you do Devy and hopefully we in the US will get to see you live soon. ❤️
Driving up Steven's Pass in WA... the mist, the mountain, the forests, the very air is so clean, like nothing I've ever experienced before (I'm from the east coast)... And standing on Pacific Beach during sunrise, looking out at the Pacific ocean, & it's so cold, & looks like you're standing at the edge of the world... Simply amazing, & time seems to stand still...
Love this song Devin, my favorite of the album for certain!:-) The simple beauty of the chord progression with the guitar melody line is haunting, as are the lyrics. This is in my heavy rotation and is inspiring many creative thoughts regarding my own song writing...thank you for that! Cheers
This song is perfect for these times especially with social media and after the pandemic. It really should be a song all over the radio. Could be one of my favorite Devin songs
This is the one song on the album I immediately got the meaning of, the first time I heard it. As I'm sure, from the comments here, most of us did. However, it's still a treat to hear Dev - in his own calm, oddly soothing tone of voice - simply affirm what you already knew.
When shit gets real and freaking out is the easiest thing you could do.....don't.
Don't freak out.
I just kinda got my eye on this, and now I am being guided through it by the one who made this.
Intrusive thoughts have been a lifelong struggle for me, thank you for explaining the concept in a respectful way and also writing banger music 💕
When I experience them, I find that prayer really helps.
Super musician! 🙏
I remember hearing the original version of this song very early in quarantine and I immediately fell in love with it. All India Radio’s album Afterworld became my favorite album of 2021 as a result of the discovery. Thanks for the tune and for shedding light on a great artist
Same here, that album is just special ♥️♥️♥️
Loving these series!
You totally improved the song!
You are an angel Devin! Thank you so much!
Absolutely fell in love with this track when it was first released before the album. I covered this one and still enjoy playing it on repeat every. single. day. I don't think it will ever get old. Stay well.
Can't even begin to say how much I love this track. Definitely helps with maintaining a positive outlook.
Hey Devin! Sí hay alguien por aquí, aquí estoy.
Al fin te encontré.
Yes!
This song and Lightworker have a very special place in my heart
Alright more devvy !! Thanks dude!
Goddamn it did this song resonate with me like few others in 2022. An album highlight for sure if not the best song
Thanks for sharing the track that inspired this
This is a perfect track
Its a really great song man. I was never a fan of yours. You had my respect but nothing I heard of yours was clicking with me. But when I heard the name of the new album somehow i just knew i would love it. And i do. It's fantastic. Thank you.
From demo version to album this song has been my go to in dark times. I think it's the "calling out" of the call of the void that that stopped me doing something dumb.
This song has been helping me through a horrific point in my life and being the soundtrack of my life has been amazing
👍🏻 Rock on, Devin.
hanks for sharing this, Devy! Lyrics are sometimes so difficult to understand. Even more for a non-native speaker like me.
Greetings from the far north of Germany!
So this track is definitely soothing, even if it made me feel a little exposed. Before reading the lyrics, I had heard in the second chorus, in the recapitulation, "Cause when you feel the urge to fade, reaction", I interpreted that as the call of the void towards suicide. It's a reminder to take a deep breath, and not do something drastic or "Freak out".
Do this for every album :)

@RubyRoks Wow, I did not know that. Thanks a ton!
I get lost in this song ❤️
To me this song is Devin.
Let's go !!

I suffer from the call of the void.
Sounds like a cliche, but life is an eternal struggle of good and evil (or light and dark if you prefer). I noticed years ago that there are many moments, I have rude judgemental thoughts on people I've been talking to. We always get a first impression of someone and in a matter of few seconds we judge. I felt bad doing this but it just so happens. Staying impartial is almost impossible, but as long you can control your actions, it's alright.
Such a great track! Also interesting to hear where it came from as I took a different interpretation from it (that after hearing this I think still holds true in an indirect way). I took "call of the void" to mean the allure of screaming / vomiting ones raw emotional take onto the internet (i.e. The Void). We see many people doing this on TikTok and other similar formats these days, and the volume of people just screaming and ranting because they're angry / want to virtue signal seems to keep increasing. Hence I thought this was a warning to think before acting in this kind of way as it's not a healthy way to behave or act.
