This is what Mobygames says about the company:
Mirage Media S. C. was a Polish video game developer and publisher.
Mirage's history begins in 1988 when the company Studio Komputerowe AS was established. SKAS created several hardware solutions for 8-bit computers including high-speed tape recording systems, custom high-density disk drives, genlocks, audio and video samplers.
So maybe it's an audio capture interface.
For capturing sampled audio with the 400/800.
Analog to Digital converters are part of any recrding setup. Looks like is a set of converters that takes an RCA for analog, converts them to digital for use with some piece of software (like a sequencer) that ran on the machine, and it features a basic LED light to confirm its receiving audio.
I am positive you are correct, but I wonder if the LED lights up when the signal is too hot. I can't wait to find out!
Pro-tip: upload sub-minute videos as shorts. They get much more visibility.
Yeah 🎉
Given the A/D and the headphone graphic, I'd wager its an Analog/Digital converter. AKA a sound capture method.
Uncanny...ive just ordered the opposite. Ive ordered a digital to analog. So yes it takes the analog signal ,and will alter the waveform to digital. Its a sampler interface. The red L.E.D is a peak /clipping indicator. Obviously for cleaning up output recordings. I imagine its gloriously monophonic !!!
(reads the other comments) "Audio converter" (feels pride, weirdly)
Send a very low audio voltage signal into the RCA and make a small basic program to capture the slot data and print it on screen. While program is still running, turn off the signal and see if it reflects of the printed data.
Might be used for sampling sound into the Atari.
Probably an audio digitizer that uses software on disk.
Prob works just like how the c64 tape deck would work id imagine? I dont think its for the og atari but prob for one of the computers that has the cart port on the side.
I've sent a link to the cart's description, but youtube just does not like links.
MIDI CONVERTER for sound is my guess. Useless.
