  • Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison recommends several methods.
    1. Pull it out. This works best on small privet plants.
    2. Mowing small plants and seedlings.
    3. Herbicide applied in a concentrated form to a fresh cut stump. Use glyphosate, Triclopyr, or Imazapyr. It may take more than one application to kill the privet.

Nice man, thanks, I'm going to have to try this, but Privet is even tough on the chainsaw, very dense wood.

The small ones are easy to pull when soil is wet.

This stuff is ruining my life. Worse than bamboo. I curse any nursery that sells this stuff.

If you have a lot of acres of this privet, use goats instead of chemicals. Goats will eat it. But since privet is not very nutritional, make sure your goats have other more nutritional food to eat.
