Thanks for the information. I will order some of this today. I have these Chinese Privets, and they are spreading. One thing I saw Grant Woods do is add some blue herbicide dye to the poison so he could easily tell what all he's poisoned. He likes to thin out unwanted trees for better deer management.

Use a reciprocating saw (i think you call them 'sawzall' in the US?) with a pruning blade. Works really well for those privet stems, and easy to get down low

Yes! I have used that method a lot! We are split 50/50 here between those two names btw.

If the privet was cut a month ago down to the ground, do I need to fresh-cut the multiple small stumps before applying the herbicide?
    Thank you!

There is a lot of misinformation in the comments regarding the toxicity of glyphosate. There is some evidence that its use may be one of the many risk factors associated with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but it certainly isn't "one of the worse things ever made." Glyphosate is actually one of the safest herbicides in use, especially when applied in small amounts directly to a stump as in this video. According to what the World Health Organization has classified as being carcinogenic, far more people die from cancer every year from eating red meat (declared by the WHO to be a carcinogen) than from using glyphosate.

If you aren't getting a good kill foliar spraying the shrub that would make me question your mix or time of year your spraying. You may also need a surfactant to help with the absorption into the leaf. Glyphosate isn't a defoliate and is absorbed into the roots regardless if you stump spray or you foliar spray it.

Also, I would recommend Buckthorn Blasters for the treatment or maybe even a sponge brush. Saves a Bunch on herbicide use.

Yeah we have alot of privet where I live. And I've been cutting it down with the bush hog. And thought about pulling the stumps, but it will grow back. I will do this or will take a cordless drill and make holes to fill with round-up.

I'm surprised that he had good success with a solution containing only 5% glyphosate. Most experts recommend at least 20%.

Privet requires neglect and lots of sunlight.. I plant trees to compete for sunlight on my borders and it will eventually give up. Keep and eye out for sprigs in the spring. It spreads quickly by birds and root. If your neighbors have it then you have it. I hate 😒 it!

I have 7 acres. 5 of it is woods and the woods are covered with this crap. We have been slowly using a backhoe a few times a year when we have time and dog out the stumps as we go but my god if u leave even a small amount of stump u see this stump behave as if it’s thankful you made it more room and regrows. I cried in the spring 😂. Literally sat down and cried. My husband has went to the co op and thought the industrial brush spray and that killed some trees….so we just had to take those out as well. Thankfully it was a test spot. I sure enough killed it but it killed EVERYTHING. Even the large trees nearby.
I guess I’ll have to do it step by step.
20yr later it might look good but I’ll be too damn old to walk in the woods or plant any gardens in there 😂

Ive lived in Alabama my entire life I hate these trees/bushes. Ive been working on a 3 stage offensive to hopefully put the weeds on the back foot till I'm able to claim victory. I can say, I cut a lot down 2 or 3 yrs ago & stood them up like a tepee to burn. I was just able to burn those bushes this yr because its almost impossible to get them to burn especially when theyre over 4'' in diameter.

Goddamn tenacious and ugly. I'm sure it's way worse in that area, I'm here in Boulder, Colorado. It's probably our worst invasive species, in addition to Russian Olive.
Glyphosate is Roundup. It's a broad spectrum chelator (pronounced kee-late-or) it's a mineral magnet. It does not allow your body to use the minerals in the foods it's applied to. Don't eat it. Don't buy foods such as non organic potatoes, to which it is applied to prevent sprouting. In addition, the GMO foods - canola, soy, sugar made from beets, and corn, are called Roundup Ready. These are crops where Roundup is applied, and everything but the crop dies. (Remember, YOU and I are not Roundup Ready) Weeds are finding their way around, so last I heard they were going to add an element of agent orange to compensate. God help us...

@@oursimplestorychannel How come you disabled comments on most of your other videos prior to this one? Hopefully it was a mistake because you have a lot of very informative content that I'm sure your viewers would love to ask questions about. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions about the $40 dollar camper you bought and renovated. So I'll ask here even though it feels out of place for the context of this video. Where did you find out about the camper and did you have a camper project in mind beforehand? Did you find it on Craigslist? I would love to do a project like that,I think it would be fun.

Of the nearly 50 species of privet, NONE is native to North America. One of the most commonly encountered problematic invasive species is Ligustrum sinense, native to China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, commonly called Chinese privet.

Do you know how to kill a wisteria I have tried round up, gas, Diesel, burning it, distilled vinegar white and Apple cider vinegar it still keeps coming back I’m about to the point of renting a backhoe to dig it up but I’m not sure if that will work we use to live on 111 acres before my dad got in a wheel chair and we pulled it up from there now we live on only 0.5 acres witch sucks but it keeps going to our other trees and choking them out so it has to go so far I just cut it with the grass but with in 1 week it’s back knee high do you have any suggestions?

Not sure you have killed it yet but the way to kill it is to take the concentrate and paint it on the leaves. Don't dilute the Roundup. Not sure you have tired this yet but it kills Japanese knotweed about applying it once a week for 5-6 weeks.
