- Lt Col (R) Rafi Ud Din Was The Incharge Of Rawalpindi Jail When Zulfeqar Ali Bhutto was there as a death sentence prissioner . He also wrote a book on this event named Last 323 Days of Bhutto . He is also the eyewitness of whole incident how bhutto was hanged .

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (5 January 1928 -- 4 April 1979) was 9th Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977, and prior to that, 4th President of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973. Bhutto was the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and served as its chairman until his execution in 1979. His elder daughter, Benazir Bhutto, later also served as Prime Minister, while his son Murtaza Bhutto served as member of Parliament of Pakistan.
Educated at the University of Southern California and University of California, Berkeley in the United States and the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, Bhutto was noted for his progressive economic initiatives, industrialisation, education, and foreign policy, and his intellectualism.In addition to national security issues, Bhutto promoted his policies on nationalisation, health care, and social reforms. Under his premiership, Pakistan's Parliament gave approval and passed unanimously the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan, a supreme law that provides a parliamentary system to Pakistan, strengthened Sino-Pakistani and Saudi-Pakistani relations, recognised East-Pakistan as Bangladesh, and hosted the second Organisation of the Islamic Conference in 1974 where he delegated and invited leaders from the Muslim world to Lahore, In 20 January 1972, weeks after the Indo-Pakistani 1971 winter war, . Bhutto and his party won the parliamentary elections held in 1977. However, in a successful coup d'état led by General Zia-ul-Haq under codename Operation Fair Play; Bhutto was removed from the office and was held in Central Jail Rawalpindi as General Zia-ul-Haq proclaimed himself as Chief Martial Law Administrator of Pakistan.Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was executed in 1979 after the Supreme Court of Pakistan controversially sentenced him to death by hanging for authorising the murder of a political opponent,in a move that many believe was done under the directives of General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq.On 18 March 1978, Bhutto was not declared guilty of murder but was sentenced to death. On 12 March 1978, Bhutto's former Legal Minister, A.H. Per-Zadah petitioned the Supreme Court for the release of Bhutto's Science Adviser Dr. Mubashir Hassan and to review the death sentence to Bhutto based on the split decision. The Supreme Court denied Dr. Hassan's release as he was held by Military Police but agreed to listen to the arguments. During 12 days of proceedings, the Supreme Court concluded that the President of Pakistan can change death sentence into life imprisonment. Per-Zadah filed an application to then-Chief Martial Law Administrator. However, General Zia-ul-Haq did not act immediately and claimed that the application had gone missing.
On 4 April 1979, the day Bhutto was executed.

I give credit to Col Rafi to speak now. I do not believe Col Rafi had the power to do anything to save Bhutto. Whatever he is saying, is clear that army is not loyal to its own country.
Army is loyal to the country alright. That's why they have to step in every now and then to save the nation from so called civilian leaders who are proven over and over to be corrupt to the core.

I have respect for this guy that atleast he gave interviews to absolve himself, a little late but what were his choices?. He did his duty, he could have resigned but its hard to enlist yourself as a martyr for a truth. His book was what made me divulge into 71 all the way until Bhuttos hanging, All the kings men (Zia's cronies) one by one , when they reached a certain age when one feels useless- leads to self criticism and loathing. That is when truth comes out. He was brave to write the book, a little before that. But i feel it had a tactical support of intelligence to confuse the masses about democratic process. This interview is his self way out, a way to feel good before leaving. Death and old age make people do wonders.
Maybe you don't understand the psyche of a soldier, especially those of that era. They were obedient to orders and knew just how to be a good aub-ordinate. And maybe this discipline has kept us going.
There is no absolution. Sure he is doing this believing it absolves him but it does not!

After watching this, I would say that Bhutto was not treated humanely during his last days as prisoner.

No country came forward to save Bhutto's life. But for Mian Nawaz Sharif Saudi Arabia government played their role to save life with the co_ordination of US government US government. The Saudi Prince himself came to Pakistan and made negotiations with Musharraf government. Mian Sahib was in Attock Fort under trial. Thus the life of The Nawaz Sharif was saved as he lived for many years. Unlucky at the time the relation between Bhattu and US government were not healthy. At the time PNA moment US government advised Mr Bhattu to carry dialogue with PNA leaders. Though Mr Bhutto conducted dialogue with PN A Leaders but he disclosed about US government letter in improper way. He showed the letter to the public in bazaar of Rawalpindi. Zulfikar Bhutto's actions were destructive for his country (Pakistan). [i] He pushed Pakistan in to 1965 War over Kashmir. After this war, Pakistan lost all face across the globe. [ii] Then in 1971 he treatened General Yahya Khan so that Mujibur Rahman was deprived of his electoral right & due - Prime Minsitership of Pakistam, which in turn led to Mujibur Rahman declaring independence. Bhutto was the root cause for creation of Bangladesh. And then he had to get the 93000 POWs from India. [iii] Lastly he did not blame himslef for errors of jugdement but went in a nuclear weapons programme. All these have got Pakistan into a bad patch out of which it may never recover fully. His daughter, Benajir Bhutto was a more sensible lady.
