Director Robert Eggers made quite the first impression with his feature debut, The Witch, back in 2015 and now he continues to make an indelible impression on movie-goers with his sophomore effort, The Lighthouse. It's a highly atmospheric black and white stunner that sends you out the door completely staggered by what you just witnessed. That being said, it's probably no surprise that I had an endless list of questions for Eggers when he visited the Collider Lounge at TIFF 2019, ranging from the challenges he faced getting such a unique project off the ground to working with Dafoe and Pattinson, questions about minor character details, the lenses he used, and so much more.

Eggers is very giving in interviews, honest and open.
He said in another interview that after some first screenings he called contacted to make big studio bs movies, and he said that to him is was worth mention to show the state of disrepair in the industry (and working in it myself it's good to hear things from a place he is in).

Alex Flood you just be new here lol. A screenplay book is basically the complete screenplay of a movie that contains the script and character actions and whatnot. People might want to analyze its contents for artistic purposes such as to get an idea if they’re trying to write a screenplay or maybe to see what the screenwriter had in mind when writing it. For instance Eggers writes very specific actions for Dafoe when he does his “Hark” speech in The Lighthouse.

I love the book A Hazard of New Fortunes, (by William Dean Howells) which has famous NYC house hunting scenes, and is the story of an insurance man starting a magazine called Every Other Week, and has my favorite kind of character from the nineteenth century: the very rude artist.

Him: "My brother, he wanted to do a ghost story in a lighthouse"
*me looking at IMDB page of 2016 movie called The Lighthouse*:
"Based on the infamous Smalls Island Incident of 1801 'The Lighthouse' follows Thomas Howell and Thomas Griffith's disastrous posting to Smalls Island Lighthouse to 'keep the light' 25 miles from land and surrounded by the deadly Irish sea. The men are stranded in a freak storm that rages for months, nothing short of an act of God. The film tells a tale of death, madness and isolation; a desolate trip into the heart of human darkness."

Marvin Mobley you say it like he wrote it or it was some passion project.. its just a movie bro, not the september 11th attacks. He even mocked the movies vocally at the time.. Actors have a job and need to get paid just like you and i. dont act like you'd say no to millions of dollars to phone it in on some trash movie purely out of principle... He was fantastic in Harry Potter which came around that time as well.

    • @tonywords6713

Marvin Mobley further, the movie was VERY successful and clearly worked for somebody considering it made countless more than niche esoterica like The Lighthouse, which to some people is as obnoxious and loathesome as twighlight is to you... I like the lighthouse but just saying
