Every episode I have had a different theory, overall here’s my thoughts
    - suits are pumped with poisonous gas
    - the silo is a experimental human bunker made by outsiders or Bernard’s boss
    - Camille found the hard drive with Sims first when they were raiders and set out a plan to rule the silo to set everyone free
    - if you watch the video of the birds there is a missing bird at the tail causing a gap between the pack also they fly at different speeds therefor it’s just a coincidence
    - Allison literally tells us before she’s sent out to clean “They have the ability to change what we see on the screens”
    - beyond the hill in the main screen in the cafeteria, I am imagining Juliette stood on top of that hill and we get POV shot of heaps of silo entrances
    - the tunnel is a link between other silos, it runs horizontal and not the slightest vertical. They’re at least a few hundred metres under ground
    - everyone who has looked at the hard drives contents is either dead or sent to clean, Juliette ain’t dying she’s the main, she is the one getting sent out to clean by Bernard
    - the device with the 18 on it either communicates when the hard drive is being used or it’s a red light, green light communication tool from his boss who is watching every move. Red = your screwed if you don’t find Juliette
    - (what was taken what we took) could possibly just be referring to, how did we end up here? I believe it’s a phrase by the makers of the silo relating to them taking control after they took freedom
    - as more theories come to mind I will right them before the 10th ep

Silo is a masterpiece so far!
first edit : OMG so many replies! i didn't expect this. FYI i haven't followed the novel series, so im realy a new member to this franchise, will try to read the books after S01. I know this series is very slow paced but i like it so far. The cinematography is very good setting a dark and mystery vibe. As the season progressed it felt very tensed and claustrophobic because of the loneliness of the protagonist in her pursuit of the truth. Hope they give us a proper finale cause im already waiting for the season 2!. Cheers all

The first book is also really good. Tough I have to say, I like the show better so far. It adresses a good bit of the gripes I had reading the book and it expands on a series of key characters I felt had weak development in the book.
      Possible spoiler below.
Tough I feel conflicted knowing the first season is only about half of the story in the first book. On the one hand I like the deeper development of the story, but on the other I have to wait one or two years for the second half when some major shit goes down.

It's far from a masterpiece, because a majority of its episodes so far have simply presented mysteries but practically no answers. The first two episodes and this latest one are good, because the first two are intriguing and the most recent one is suspenseful; however, the episodes in between them have been predominantly uneventful and slow paced, ramping up in only their final minutes in order to present a cliffhanger that was designed to get the audience to return for the subsequent episode.
The show doesn't have enough meaningful storytelling; a majority of it is empty.

I noticed the birds too. I first thought that the helmet pumps some kind of poisonous gas into it that kills them to make sure they die when they go out, but I don’t know. I wish Holston took his off the minute he got out there. I also don’t understand why Sims would freely talk like that in his house, when he knows they can see/hear him.
One more thing, Holston couldn’t see his wife until he took off his helmet, so it’s definitely a screen in there. I also think that there’s more silos .

    • @InterKELLar
      @InterKELLar Рік тому

My guess is that the green grass n blue sky are fake. It’s there to “push” the cleaners to wipe the sensor because they want to share what they saw with the people inside. I had a similar thought too about the suit pumping poisonous gas into the helmet. Why else would Holston fight to take it off. As for Sims, he should know better to not speak like that anywhere especially his apartment. Bernard is definitely listening and spying on Sims. Who know 🤷‍♀️ maybe, because of this, Sims and/or his wife will become Juliet’s ally.

    • @averyvaliant
      @averyvaliant Рік тому

I think what kills them is something in the air itself
The reason people are dying is something to do with the tape they wrap around the gloves, there's apparently two types of tape, the bad and good stuff
They probably purposely use the bad stuff knowing people will die within minutes.
The tape has been mentioned numerous times in multiple episodes to be a coincidence and the fact Juliette "stole" some, I suspect she'll put on a suit, put the good stuff on and survive.

Excellent analysis. And great catch on the birds. I didn't notice that. I went back to EP2 and watched the 1st Sheriff go out. You can't see much in the close-up scenes when he removes his helmet but there does appear to be a lot of light around him. And you can make out something like a tree in the background. So maybe there is an AR-like view generated in the helmet screen, but unfortunately we do not see what the outside looks like when he removes his helmet. That's the key piece of info we need. Also, there has got to be some kind of poisonous gas pumped into the helmet to make the cleaners die so fast. What would be interesting is if a cleaner volunteered to go out without a suit or a helmet. Then the question would be, would the mayor even allow this to happen since they control what the cleaner sees via the helmet and probably also do the poison. Or it could be in the pact somewhere that you have to wear the suit when you clean. Anyway, great video. Very thought provoking. My prediction is that Jules will not be cleaning in EP10. She's the main character. So maybe Camille or one of the guys who helped her. If it turns out to be Camille, Sims is going to go off the rails.

I wonder what does Barnard know about the outside world? When he was questioning Lukas about what he thinks what the “lights” are, it was like if he were asking a 5 year old child. He clearly knows what they are, what if they are not even stars, as the question seems to be posses to us as well? The stars seems to play an important role in the plot because otherwise why even create that plot line, but I can’t think of where they are going with it?

Translation it was average at best so this is a real opportunity for a show to elevate the books storyline with better backstory that actually makes sense and complex nuanced villains instead of the typical big brother watching over you dystopian oppression cliche we've seen countless times like in Brazil , 1984 and Equilibrium which has cool action fight scenes too. This episode all we see is Jules going from one room to another hooking up a hard drive and see her scrolling thru a file directory clicking start here to show a video of green trees and blue sky that we all predicted back in episode 2 and for George to say I love you. Juilette will need to obtain a new way of getting to the tunnel or one of the antagonist assistance (Sims? After his wife is sent to clean) in order to get there, sans that... she's cleaning. Checkpoints, watchers, Benard are too much to overcome.
The Video (The Helmet, the Lunch room, the Hard Drive) is a system of Control. Like the One (Matrix), it gives those who think they have discovered a Truth, a fake focus on a hope that will only end in their death. It is the inevitable result of the revolutionary mind. As Gloria told Holston's wife, it's all about the "right type of people". Holston's wife (and Holston) became obsessed (unlike Juilette), thus couldn't see the larger threat (Holston KNEW he was being watched, yet focused on the lie)
The question is: Who is the person broadcasting the video? It's NOT the folks in the janitorial ops center. The video was put on the hard drive as a library item. It glitched on (in the lunchroom briefly) when the power went off. Meaning it's on the same feed and always on. Also, it's a wireless signal powerful enough to reach outside (seamlessly triggered as you step through the door i.e zero latency).
Sims and family have a long term plan to either rule the Silo and avoid the wraith of whoever Benard is terrified of (Silo Builders?) OR construct their own Revolutionary State in revolt against them (Silo Builders). He wants the same thing Gloria does... He just knows the Silo residents ain't ready (and under Benard's rule never will)... yet.
I think the revolt (140 years ago) was against the Silo Builders. (Like the Architect resetting Zion in the Matrix) 18 becomes 01.
Proof: Sims knew of the Book (He watched Juilette reading it) yet didn't commit any resources to confiscate it. Nor did he tell Benard Juilette had it. The Book is waaaaay more dangerous than the Hard Drive (ask Paulie "F the Pact" boy).
The suit doesn't need a sophisticated poison/air system. Too many secrets to keep. The outside is toxic. An inadequate filtration system is all that is needed to kill in moments. The GOAL is to prevent you from getting to the TOP of that hill! The suit needs to modified by... (an engineer) to allow the proper working air supply. Question is WHO gives Juilette the heads up and the time to make the adjustments (Benard or Sims)?
Finally, I'm way more interested in the abandoned Silo Shaft, it's proximity to the Silo. Why does it contain the TUNNEL and not the Silo itself? Was it supposed to be Silo 02? Why is it airtight yet no one tried to live there (in an apocalyptic event, going to an underground "airtight" water pure place would be hard to miss) No life... is curious. I think it has something to do with the Silo 01 versus 18 mystery.
Can't wait to read the book after the finale!

    Couple of my own thoughts:
    1) When George said the water is actually nothing to worry about my initial thought was that it's probably actually very shallow. Maybe that would be too easy but something we need to remember is no one knows how to swim because they've been in the silo for 140+ years.
    2) Adding to what others have said about the outside world we see in Jane Carmody and Coulsten's cleanings (I'll call this reality B), this must also be fake because when mechanical shuts down the geberator and reality B flashes on the screen in the cafeteria briefly, it was 10pm so it doesn't make sense for the image we see to look like it's the middle of the day. Maybe I'm missing something there though so feel free to correct me.
Also please no book spoilers in the cimments as myself and many others have not read them.

The fact that there is a season 2 means there are other silos out there. The mysterious door and tunnel in the schematics is the conduit between the 2 silos. The question now is what is different about the other silo? Why have multiple silos at all? The answer is each silo has a special purpose meant for a different class of people akin to Snowpiercer. I have not read the book, but thematically, this is the best path forward to season 2.

My guess is that there are other silos and this is all just an experiment like every other movie we watched. Maybe it was an experiment that went wrong. Like in Fallout games they are supposed to leave but what if the people in power decided they rather have power then leave and as time passes it became something else. The only problem is why wouldn't they want to leave other than losing their power? It looks nice outside. Also all the people seem to die around the same spot outside. This promotes discussion on social media. That engagement helps attract more viewers.
Alternatively, without the breaks in the storytelling, everyone would be done with the series and be less inclined to discuss and less likely to attract the audience needed to attract advertising and fund production of the show.
Imagine a book club where everyone was told to read only up through to a specific number of acts/chapters but each was given a different number. Would someone have questions about the ones prior?
Maybe better, if stage theater goers were pulled from the theater after the finished watching different acts. The show never performed a second time. Fifty percent see three acts. Forty only see three two first acts ten percent see only one act. Would the largest group have theories of what will happen in the second act? Would they spoil the mystery for the people in the smallest group if they were discussing in a mixed space with them?

The door looks to be twice the height of the tunnel itself.
I suspect the opening of this massive door will require the skills of a master engineer....can't imagine who that could be! :P
I think when he says the water isn't a problem is because it's shallow, not deep and he probably means everyone in the silo has a fear of open bodies of water, having never experienced one before.
Juliette has probably conquered her fear of water after the generator/drowning scene.
I'd always assumed that 18 was the silo number, but it's curious the display says Silo 01
I think, as you said, the device Bernard has is a pager, he's being paged by someone higher up than him to get in contact for an update.
I always thought the video we saw briefly in the first episode of the lush outside, was a prerecorded video that displays on the helmet, not an actual recording from inside a helmet, that's interesting.
So who was that person who went outside? and how did they get the video recording on to the hard drive? Wireless?
I think it's clear though that the outside IS a barren wasteland, as the physical evidence we see ourselves is when the hatch door opens, all that post apocalyptic/wasteland dust falls into the stairwell, on both occasions.
The only other proof is when the sheriff dusts the lens, we see it from our perspective and it's clearly filthy, as is the plinth the camera is attached to.

After I watched that episode initially, I wondered if there is some kind of poison they release in the helmet once they go out to clean. In Episode 9, we saw Juliette find a video on George's hard drive that revealed the outer world is not as barren as everyone in the silo has been led to believe. This is a major revelation that could have far-reaching consequences. Based on these events, a few possible developments for the next episode could include:
Release of the Video: Given the potential impact of the video, it's likely that Juliette will attempt to make this information public to the residents of the silo. This could involve collaborating with the IT person who helped her before.
Potential Rebellion: If the video is released and the residents of the silo learn the truth, it could lead to unrest and potentially a rebellion against Bernard and Sims, who have been maintaining the lie about the outside world.
Increased Conflict: With the release of the video and the potential unrest, Bernard and Sims will likely increase their efforts to find and stop Juliette. This could lead to more conflict and possibly some confrontations.
More about the Hidden Door: George's message to Juliette also mentioned a hidden door underwater in the pit. This could be a crucial plot point in the upcoming episode as Juliette might try to find this door and uncover what's behind it.
Paul's Role: Paul, who found a significant page from George's guide, might play a crucial role in future events. He seems to be on a path of self-redemption and might be an unexpected ally for Juliette.

@akidoshi it's right that the video flipped to a fake daytime video. It's right that it's showing the wrong time of day but that's assuming the clocks in the silo are even right to begin with and that they correspond to the actual time of day outside. It isn't actually necessary to have the inside silo clock match the real outside time.
What doesn't make sense is why the inside screen would ever change to the fake daytime at all unless they were both fake to begin with. They must be built on a common shared base landscape animation model. The healthier version must be closer to the original model and loads first but the delay in rendering the dead landscape modified model caused the healthy one to load up briefly.
It would seem to me the healthy one would be more complex and difficult to render but it's done in reverse to ensure more consistency between the two versions

I don't think the suit is causing them to see an altered positive world, while the sensor screen was the reality. Two reasons:
    1. What would be to gain? Going out is supposed to be scary and a punishment. Why show the cleaner false images of a beautiful world, if they are going to die off in a toxic wasteland 2 minutes later?
    2. The better argument. When they shut down the power for the generator repair, some of the monitors flashed a frame of the beautiful version of the outside. Almost as if the image altering software shut down just before the actual monitor shut down.
More likely, I think the suits are killing those who exit. I think the mask is feeding the cleaners poison, that causes them to collapse right after exiting.

It’s the small things. This occurred to me as I recently bought a new SUV and while the big things are important, it’s the small, thoughtful, meaningful minutiae that eventfully led to my purchase. I think the auto manufacturers refer to this a “micro impressions.” Anyway, this episode was particularly meaningful in that; 1) the part of Sims’ wife was nuanced and expertly acted. She, Sims’ wife, wasn’t a cartoon, one-dimensional stereotype but a thoughtful and very self-aware part of “Silo” ecosystem. Big 👍 to all. 2) I nearly burst into tears when Billings burnt (most of) the book he discovered hidden in Nichols’ apartment. How many countless times in human history have lesser beings discovered treasures of immeasurable wealth and destroyed them? Each time Republican garbage here in the US bans or burns a book, I will now think of Billings.

There are guesses about what Camille, Robert Sims' wife, meant. I watched a podcast where the guys from The Expanse talked to the author of these books and Hugh Howey indicated he was watching responses as he posted parts of his book and he was trying to subvert expectations.
I think about many of the people who spend so much time on here telling everyone how much this story sucks. I think they simply have in their heads the idea that if it doesn't turn out exactly as they expected it to then they'll make up excuses to explain why it's a bad book.
I gather some of these people have commented and I've blocked them and can't read their responses. Maybe I criticized them and they couldn't handle that I was right and they blocked me.

Also it would've been nic eif they showed him going to medical to hide the harddrive. Except they didn't leave my suspense in this tv series. I would've also liked to have seen Jules build up a revolution before they sent her out ot clean so quickly. She was only Sheriff for 5 serconds. They don't tell us why Walk was afraud to step out of her door for 25 years. It would've been also nice to see Jules looking more into the harddrive and gaining more knowledge of what was on there. Kind of silly that George just committed suicide. Very lame. I also don't understand why they wanted Marnes dead. They don't show who poisoned Marnes water. It would've also been nice if they could show what interacation those two had after she was placed in psych unit and him hiding the hard drive in her room Hildebrandt and Holston. They don't show how Holston figured out there were cameras in the rooms. Writers and Directors please give us m ore of a backstory to your tv series. Maybe Holsten and Allison werent allowed to have kids not because of her but because of him and his position? Everyone in this Silo who has a family (=kids) will prioritize their family first at least sometime in the plot. Bernard has no family (that we know of) and knows all about the silo. Hes "most strict" about the pact and hates everyone for prioritizing differently.
Also: I guess they will send out Juliette but what about the 15 feet door then? They COULD stage a blackout with her old crew and then maybe use the time to escort Juliette to engineering and to the SBM? Just an idea.

    • @SpaceCaseZ06
      @SpaceCaseZ06 Рік тому +1

If they denied Holsten a child because he was sheriff, then he'd quit so he could have a baby. Still, why the charades?
It seems anybody who is in I.T. would be a threat because they'd all have analytical minds with the tendency to ask questions. Nobody in I.T. would be allowed children and they'd run out of competent people to staff the department. Nobody could ascend to director and or mayor from within I.T.
The whole premise of not allowing certain people to have children is very flawed as a component of story world building. The gene pool would be severely limited. 10,000 is generally considered the minimum size for a viable gene pool but they're limiting it further? Unwise.

even without a clue such as this i would suspect that as a natural extension. any decent detective should consider this a plausible if not likely capability
There is a part where It's wrong, though. What everyone keeps saying about the bird migration isn't the same footage. There's another young tree in view by Halston Becker and also the trailing birds are in different positions.
While this footage could still be falsified, it isn't the same. That alone cannot be the indictment. Also, the lighting when the camera is facing Allison or Halston Becker is brighter than the view projected on the display in the cafeteria or holding cell 3.

I think the suit visors are the lie but the lens showing outside has been true the whole time as a way to trick people into cleaning it before they die. Perhaps to keep control with a clear view as a constant reminder. Here’s the evidence I noticed of the lens being real:
-in episode 2, we only see the blue sky and green land from the visor’s POV.
-when the sheriff takes off his helmet, there’s a blurry tree in frame behind him up and right that looks dead.
-the sky looks white like the lens shows.
-only when takes the helmet off does he go to where his wife is lying.
-before he dies he nudges her hand and her arm moves. Pretty accurate to go right there if he isn’t seeing her body.
-what’s the point of a tunnel in the story when it’d be much easier just to say “I want to go out”.
-and season 2 would be weird if it didn’t still take place in 1 or more silos.

Only why would they live in the silo themselves. Sims has wife and kid there. They watch cameras and shawshank guy said this could be the end of them. Do they still think outside is poisoned air themselves. Im curious. Personally I think the suit pumps poison into them. Don't wear the suit.

Mind-boggling to consider, but could that line drawn from the door to the tunnel in the blueprint be some sort of conduit? The size of that entrance is seriously imposing, double the tunnel's height. You'd need a top-tier engineer to even consider cracking that beast open, though I'm at a loss of who that could be in our cast.
As for the water situation, it struck me as odd, too. But, maybe it's not deep water we're dealing with, just some surface level stuff that's troublesome for our silo-dwellers. After all, who wouldn't fear what they've never known? Water bodies must be a foreign concept for them. Yet, Juliette's harrowing near-drowning incident at the generator might have already helped her triumph over her aquaphobia.
Oh, and the silo numbering! Has anyone else noticed how it says Silo 01 on the display, not 18? That's thrown me for a loop, definitely.
Bernard's gadget! It seemed to me more like a paging device rather than something futuristic. Someone up the chain is probably demanding an update from him, quite the retro twist!
Then there's the video from episode one with the green, lush outdoors. I initially thought it was pre-recorded footage just playing on the helmet's screen. But considering it might be a real-time capture inside someone's helmet is truly intriguing. Who was that person exploring the wilderness, and how did they transfer that footage to the hard drive? Could it be wirelessly transmitted?
Finally, the exterior condition of the silo has been an ongoing debate. But twice now, the opening of the hatch has given us a glimpse into a dusty, barren world, quite like a post-apocalyptic scene. Coupled with the Sheriff's action of wiping the dirty lens, the evidence is mounting that their world is anything but hospitable.
I mean, just look at how grimy that camera platform was! Clear signs that they're living in a harsh, wasteland environment. Thoughts, anyone?
