I definitely came away thinking that the "nice" looking outside was real and the reason the sheriff and wife "died" was due to a poison or knockout gas in the oxygen tank, but after you pointed it out the world in which we view on the computer and through Holstens vision is almost too perfect like some type of AR.
The suits project a fake reality. The leadership figured out that cleaners always clean the camera when they think the outside is green and livable (for whatever reason). Probably a combination of shock, excitement, happiness and a bit of hope makes people willing to do the last task.
Apple TV has been producing some fantastic content recently, the first two episodes blew me away. The cinematography and score are top tier and I really enjoyed the way the story constantly jumps back and forth during the timeline giving us clues while also keeping us in the dark as the story progresses, I can’t get enough of it. The writing so far has been stellar and this show gives off serious Dune vibes and I’m all for it. Also, Rebecca Ferguson is so underrated she’s becoming one of my favorite actresses with her work in recent years. Can’t wait for episode 3.

Regarding the outside scene with the sherrif, not sure if anyone noticed, but in the shot after he's taken his helmet off, the camera focuses on his face/suit, but to the right, you see what looks like grey/overcast sky, a brown barren landscape and a dead tree. I also wonder if that is even outside at all, given that you can't see the horizon from any angle, as the area is convieniently blocked off by that circular hill. It sounds like they created that fake video 97 years into the project, perhaps to keep the population under control, so they could see there's no need or reason to rebel, because the outside is dead. It's starting to feel like this is one big experiment on the populace Do the dates on the drive's files mean the silo has been around for 240, not 140 years? Regarding the "Double the Flowers" note I think the sheriff hid the drive and papers in the flower vase which they show him moving just prior to going outside. I think he moved them from the vent into the vase to make sure she gets them. Remember the sheriff bequeathed ALL his possessions to Juliette which would include the vase/flowers. Assuming she follows the instructions she'll come upon the drive when adding the flowers.
The tunnel could be the way to another Silo or it could be to a survival camp. The mystery of the show isn't necessarily to learn the truth about "outside " but to learn about the manipulation/lies of the silo residents by the creators.

I was thinking the same thing. They're killing people bc why else would you need a helmet and suit if the air is so toxic it wouldn't be needed. It's also to show them the fake outside world through the helmet.
I just had a random thought earlier about the outside. what if the outside isn't post apocalyptic, but the dust we see on the camera lens and the dead landscape is caused by an active volcano That might explain where the steam is coming from, a large river or reservoir has been channeled near the volcano, which super heats the water into steam. All about power and control. The deaths outside are not real. Just my guess. Apple have been making good new shows lately, sad 'See' was cancelled. We don't want the same old star wars over and over, we want fresh ideas, something new for a change. I just don't think the show will make it passed season 2, it is very slow sometimes. People don't like slow and talking, even though it's a budget thing that makes shows longer. Sad because this show is really interesting.
I really liked first 2 epsidoes, but i didnt one thing. They kinda show what happened in the future. And then show backwards how it all happened. And that is not that interesting for me cause I already know what will happen...
Honestly just wanna thank you and the guys from heavy spoilers because honestly I wouldn't have known about this show and many others if it weren't for you if he just scrolling most of the time
The idea is almost the same : under ground city with greedy mayor!!! The movie "the city of ember" starring actress saorise Rohan!!! Overall wonderful performance!!!
I've been excited about this lowkey for a few months now, getting moreso now it's dropped and people aren't hating it lol I dunno if you like Musicals, but Schmigadoon/Schmicago has a TON of easter eggs and trope references and goes very meta, you may enjoy that, or Tomorrowland, even though it's not as sci-fi. Also mebbe some Andor??? Looking forward to more Silo and more of the Amazon fallout series when it drops!
I had never heard of the source material for this new series from AppleTV+. So, this was a novel concept. Good on you, Apple, as novel concepts are exceedingly rare. Phenomenal acting. Appealing cast. Pacing a bit slow but like ‘Station 11,’ I think the payoff will be tremendous. Asking the engineers out there: 1. Given the tech of the Silo seems rooted in the late-20th-century, what known power source would be still viable 140+ years later? It’s obviously non-nuclear and one assumes produces little pollution? 2. At what point does air pressure become a factor in very deep structures? 144 stories below ground. Would the air pressure be tolerable for those at the deepest levels? 3. WTF, did the Founders forget to install a goddamn elevator? Escalators? Yikes. Lastly, perhaps the environmental suits used by those expelled from the Silo (Really, duct tape?!) not only project a false image on the view screen just long enough to fool the wearers to clean the camera but are also poisoned? It’s not the outside environment that is killing those poor SoB, it’s their suits!
the visor doesn't show any of the bodies outside. the visor is a image 100%, I say he dies because its toxic still. I bet its a manipulation to have them clean the screen before they die. this series seems insane. want to read the books to find out what's going on but glad youre covering !
@@Val_Halla777 good point tho, he dies after he takes his helmet off. if non toxic shouldn't he live still? I like the point but for a sci fi show like this.... seems little much no? plus it would make sense that the visor is a illusion as you do not see any dead bodies in the visor. its a manipulation tactic I believe to have them clean the camera just before they die. as no one wants to clean the window. this was said in the episode yet they still do. I dunno could be wrong but thought this might be the route they go
@@frednunziata5 it's the suit. There Breathing toxic air and since it takes a while to go outside. They've breathed heavy amounts of it by the time they clean the camera resulting in death. Saw another comment of someone saying it's the suit that kills, person said he read the books
@@frednunziata5it’s definitely the suit because the wife didn’t take her helmet off… interestingly enough that there’s a suit in the first place… when it’s not needed
@@teniseuna I've read the books of Silo and I can assure it's a sci-fi story like many other. Those who haven't read the books don't have the context of Silo either; that's not something bad "per-se", same happens with all mystery-box products. You're just a talking head kid, say Silo is better than From and you don't even know what From is about yet, don't have enough elements to judge it. And speaking about List, it's clear you didn't understand it, like all talking heads, just repeat slogans and cliches other say.
After seeing the first few episodes I started on the books, far from the show giving me spoilers it actually helped as the tv series is only based on the books not a copy of them. I totally loved the series and hope to see a season 2. Thanx Hugh for the excellent entertainment.
Two important scenes to think about are the one scene where rashida refrences animals that fly in the air and another scene is when juliette theorizes that when go in that much water you sink. These people dont understand what birds are and cant concieve of what swimming is
I feel that they pulled a bait & switch with getting us invested in Oyelowo and Jones's characters the switching to a lackluster underwhelming Ferguson.
That line in the ledger begins with Crime. You can see the same word in the next entry. So that line says says that there were no crimes beyond normal Cleaning Day levels. Oh, and I think that other word is "unexpected".
I like how we know nothing about whats beyond those hills. Could just be a social experiment of sealing people underground for centuries to see what would happen. Or maybe sealing them in there in there for humanity to always have a backup seed very well in time before an actual apocalyptic event. Or maybe both.
I don’t really understand why those leaving would opt to put on the helmet and air supply. If you believe you are going to die, well…. The helmet clearly doesn’t help. If you believe it’s a conspiracy, maybe the helmet is how they knock you out.
My theory CD stands for Carbon Dioxide which according to Google is the primary carbon source for life on Earth. I have too many questions, but I think there was something wrong with the atmosphere and they build the silo to "save" humanity. Maybe there was a lottery and the people that didn't make it were the ones that fought trying to make it in. But that doesn't explain the outside world. Maybe the outside got fixed and they just left them in there as an experiment. Maybe there are other silos, too many questions that I have so far.
I think maybe they are putting a poisonous gas or something in the "air" pack when they send them outside. That might explain the sheriff removing his helmet.
Nightflyers, apart from its other problems, should have been just a miniseries. It was stupid on the part of SyFy to take a novella and greenlight a full series that ended its first season with a cliffhanger. Just stupid when you consider the average lack of longevity of most TV series.
1:31 I'm glad you said what the note said, because I could not for the life of me read what the very first word said. It looked like "Dowsle" to me, and I was like what. Who tf writes their b's like that in cursive?
I always thought the beautiful outside world was the reality and the destroyed world was the lie, and you get to see the real world for a brief second when the lights go off in episode 3 right before they are plunged into darkness. And the reason why they die is because there is poison gas being pumped through their spacesuits. If that's not the way it is, I have so many more questions. Like, why give them a lie in the first place that might be sent to them via their spacesuit visors? Why give them a spacesuit at all if they are just going to die anyways? And if the previous sheriff couldn't see his dead wife at all, it is highly coincidental that he was able to walk up and die right by her body. Great video!
I have never read the series but I wonder how many episodes it's going to take for them to show that the people wanting to leave are being poisoned by the air in their suits by their security service? I don't want this to be a 4 season adventure to drag on.
This is show is going to be awesome, I'm already intrigued. I just wish we could binge watch it. I'm not sure what to think as far as theory wise. I want to believe the topside of earth is actually colonized and most of the people who go outside go on to live fruitful lives. But it doesn't make sense that they don't free the other humans in the Silo. The air can't be poisonous because there are birds flying around, (this is not shown in the doctored simulation video), and we know birds breath H2O as well. The only truly far out theory I can think of is..... Humanity has been underground way longer than 140 years, and somehow have become acclimated to breathing Carbon Dioxide, or because they're so deep underground have become acclimated to the pressure over the centuries? It just doesn't make sense to me why the Judicial system would want to keep Humans living in that muck, and dank atmosphere if they don't have too. Generations born with no real sunlight and body under the constant enormous pressure of living so deep within the earth's crust, can't be healthy humans, we need the Sun's energy to thrive.
I wonder about the writings on the wall, if those were from people outside or workers with the digging machine for example. Also how the relics came inside the Silo. The history with rebels was maybe inside?
There are screens within the helmet of cleaning service, faking the nice nature. The harddrive contains software for these cleaning devices. Making people clean.
First i would like to say the the acting is superb. The dialogue is good and realistic. And the silo looks realistic there is nothing subpar here. So nothing negative there, but Its like watching a prelude to fallout where it never starts. You watch the same 60 minutes again and again for 10 episodes in the silo. And it never gets anywhere. They will never get out because they do not have the budget for this. If this gets picked up for a season 2 i am going to laugh my head off. Because you will watch another 10 episodes in the shelter where some one will try to get out and will then die. Which is what i assume will happen at the end of season one......

Honestly just wanna thank you and the guys from heavy spoilers because honestly I wouldn't have known about this show and many others if it weren't for you if he just scrolling most of the time
It’s so funny when anyone says “I wana go out!”. Everyone stops like oh, now you done it
The most interesting thing is what was written in the ledger about the cleaning in 97
The idea is almost the same : under ground city with greedy mayor!!! The movie "the city of ember" starring actress saorise Rohan!!! Overall wonderful performance!!!
Excelent breakdown. Please, keep going with this videos. Thanks for your time.
This show is sooooo good
I've been excited about this lowkey for a few months now, getting moreso now it's dropped and people aren't hating it lol
I dunno if you like Musicals, but Schmigadoon/Schmicago has a TON of easter eggs and trope references and goes very meta, you may enjoy that, or Tomorrowland, even though it's not as sci-fi. Also mebbe some Andor???
Looking forward to more Silo and more of the Amazon fallout series when it drops!
iam currently waiting for From new ep.. and then SILO debut with 2 ep.. gosh.. God must loved me soooo much 😂❤
The silo has a Mega City One feel to it, Judge Dredd would fit right in. Also, the theme music is a mix between Westworld and Severance.
I laso have vibes of Necromunda.
@@amsfountain8792 Yh it does give hive city 40k vibes

Really liked the show. Its has similar aspects of Fallout
@frednunziata5
They could also die because the suit tank’s air is what’s actually poisonous..not the air outside.
@@nyraxes4744 well I haven’t read the books ….. thanks for spoiling 👍
Right now, the sci-fi mistery hit is called From. This show has a higher budget (as all Apple shows), but that doesn't make it better than From.
It's definitely better than from, lol. But From is decent too.
@@MzShaybutta better? based on what kid?.... I even know how it ends already, and it's another post apocalyptic/dystopian story as many out there
@@nicocba2007it’s better than from… from has absolutely no context whatsoever it’s being predicted to end like lost
@@nicocba2007 it’s an opinion not facts… you’re taking this personal like it’s your show
After seeing the first few episodes I started on the books, far from the show giving me spoilers it actually helped as the tv series is only based on the books not a copy of them.
I totally loved the series and hope to see a season 2. Thanx Hugh for the excellent entertainment.
This is definitely the best sci-fi show this year
I’m hooked. May even grab the books it’s based off 😎
Two important scenes to think about are the one scene where rashida refrences animals that fly in the air and another scene is when juliette theorizes that when go in that much water you sink.
I think the helmet pumps poison into the suit.
People who have read the book. Please don't drop every possible spoiler you can think of. 😅
Yes!!! I'm that one that wants to know too!!
Seen the set at Hoddesdon Studios - even walked up the spiral staircase, which is 3 stories high, HUGH set areas.
I like how we know nothing about whats beyond those hills. Could just be a social experiment of sealing people underground for centuries to see what would happen. Or maybe sealing them in there in there for humanity to always have a backup seed very well in time before an actual apocalyptic event. Or maybe both.
The books were awesome, so deep and full of story..
am liking it, the mystery is nice.
I don’t really understand why those leaving would opt to put on the helmet and air supply. If you believe you are going to die, well…. The helmet clearly doesn’t help. If you believe it’s a conspiracy, maybe the helmet is how they knock you out.
any connection to city of ember?
1:23.
Thr screws not being tight will cause noise and he will end up checking it.
I had no idea Apple was producing a show on Silo series! The books are pretty cool!
Who does the score? the Intro is reminding me of another fantastic score iv heard b4 but I cant place it. Thinking Game of Thrones or maybe Westworld
Maybe the suite that they are given when they leave is what gases them. maybe that’s why he took his off. He figured it out, but it was too late.
That might explain the sheriff removing his helmet.
the suit is definitely why all the cleaners die
Only seen the first two episodes and not read the books but my theory is there’s poison in the suits, not just the outside. But probably wrong lol.
Looks like City of Ember
Fingers crossed they don't pull a Nightflyers! 😅
Nightflyers, apart from its other problems, should have been just a miniseries. It was stupid on the part of SyFy to take a novella and greenlight a full series that ended its first season with a cliffhanger. Just stupid when you consider the average lack of longevity of most TV series.
I agree. Such a shame it was canceled before we knew more. They rushed the ending.
1:31 I'm glad you said what the note said, because I could not for the life of me read what the very first word said. It looked like "Dowsle" to me, and I was like what. Who tf writes their b's like that in cursive?
what if it is the suit itself that is somehow posion the the person who wears it? they all make it roughly the same distance,
I always thought the beautiful outside world was the reality and the destroyed world was the lie, and you get to see the real world for a brief second when the lights go off in episode 3 right before they are plunged into darkness.
The air hose in the helmet kills them but it is a lush landscape
I have never read the series but I wonder how many episodes it's going to take for them to show that the people wanting to leave are being poisoned by the air in their suits by their security service? I don't want this to be a 4 season adventure to drag on.
This is "City of Ember" reworked and on steroids.
Making people clean.
on the back of See comes Silo another one word epic from Apple big budget post apocalyptic drama at it's finest
The only thing that bothered me about this series is "concrete doesn't break that way" everything else was great lol
This show seems like a SnowPiercer mixed with the hunger games.
That camera outside reminds of 2001 a space Odyssey 😮 could be an Ai running the whole show. 🤔
I think the ones that go out are killed by the suit, a poison of some kind. Yet most likely the Sheriff is still alive
I was thinking the gas they supposedly purge the air lock with.
Imagine if you are living in the silo, someday you were bored at home, and you accidentally said you wanted to go outside for a walk
Your voice & this series reminds me RAISED BY WOLVES
Could you also do videos from the MGM+ series "From"
I think the outside is safe but what take out the victims is the actuall suit they are wearing. I think that is its true purpose.
They should just cover the lens next time
😂
This video format would be good for Yellowjackets.
