@Ice King Yeah. It's only really Asians that have problems because colleges are expecting higher standards and are not wanting to accept much more of us.
I am reminded of King of the Hill when he first met his Asian neighbor. He asked him, "So are ya Chinese or Japanese ?" He replied with anger "I am Laotian ! " Then Hank replied, "So are ya Chinese or Japanese " ?
Actually Khan was pretty understanding at first. He politely said he was Laosian and said it was, "a landlocked country between Vietnam and Thailand." He only got angry after Hank and his friends proceeded to stare blankly at him and then just repeat the question.
Putting Asians as model minority actually harms Asians. Affirmative actions discriminates against asians to "level up the playing fields" for other races. For example, Asians get penalties on their university entrance scores.
Then what’s hurting you has nothing to do with the “model minority” myth. You have a problem with pro-black affirmative action. You have a problem with pro-black legislation, not white America

With too many competitors, we have to learn AT LEAST NINE subjects back in high school and have to get it all A to get a DECENT college. Which means we were forced to study even when we were only 4 years old. So is actually a tragedy cuz most parents care about the grade more than their children's health. I was so lucky that my parents actually cared about me and sent me to London for high school and Japan later. Right now, I worked in London and never been this happy before.

Germans and (to a very minor extent) Italians were both put in interment camps as well, though not anywhere near the amount of Japanese, it still was a large amount. The largest was in Crystal City over in Texas.
They didn't know this because nobody bothered to type "German Italian WW2 internment USA". Why search it when the writers were already convinced it didn't happen?
It was also primarily Japanese that were put into the internment camps because Japan was much more likely to invade the United States. Japan had already attacked the United States at Pearl Harbor whereas Germany and Italy were unlikely to invade the United States as they were still dealing with Great Britain and the Soviet Union. The United States didn't want Japanese-Americans to help Japan invade the United States through espionage or sabotage. This is why Japanese-Americans living near the West Coast were interned while Japanese-Americans in other parts of the US were for the most part left alone. Americans of German and Italian origin were seen as less of a threat as there was no concern that the United States would be invaded by Germany or Italy. So, in conclusion, the fact that they were treated better than Japanese-Americans wasn't because they were white.
Not only that but in WW1 Their homes churches and schools were all raided drurring the Germaphobia era... Durring that time they were very discriminated against..
The reason people call all asians asian American is the same reason people don't call me Ugandan or Kenyan American Because you can't tell the goddamn difference

Nah the main reason why america didnt do that 1:40 to the germans is because they were one of the biggest minorities Many people there were ethnic Germans that migrated WITH the English during the American Independence (most from Hanover to avoid british influence) And many people had german relatives Also, during the 19th century America and the newly formed german state had adored each other, with many germans studying the art of war of the civil war (like general moltke) to help them unify germany Edit: Whereas the japanese were kicked out because for more than a century, the japanese, and in general east asia, had a quirky relationship with the US... mainly because they busted Japan's economy one century earlier At least to my research :/

ronnie. og look up Cecil Rhodes and the Milner group in how they tried to wipe out the Germany because how powerful they were getting. Their “loyalty” to Germany is as real as your in-depth view on the matter
They actually did put Germans in internment camps! It isn't as widely known as Japanese internment camps, but they existed during both World Wars and Italians were also put into camps (My family isn't Italian so I don't know as much about those). This wasn't just German nationals but people of recent German descent, they would have their homes and property seized by the government just the same as the Japanese population. The Germans weren't handled as agressively, being put on a case by case basis, but it didn't take much to qualify for internment. Many families abandonned German language and heritage, and even changed their names to be more "American" in order to seem as inconspicuous as possible. While technically only the person under suspicion had to be detained, families could choose to come along. This left many with the choice of splitting up their family and forcing the women and children to live without their main breadwinner outside the camp, or bringing their children into the camp which wasn't ideal. A lot of children ended up in orphanages because their parents were taken in. Those not detained could have their movements restricted, be banned from certain areas or could be put under curfews that their nongerman neighbors weren't subject to. No, it's not as bad, but that doesn't mean it should be erased. Admiting that the United States treated its white citizens terribly too doesn't minimize the suffering of minorities, it just lays out history as it actually happened.
To be clear, both programs were intrinsically racist. Clever racist organizations don't reveal their blind hatred for everyone, but instead apply different standards to different races as a disguise. This is a tactic designed to keep the victims of racism, and their allies, fighting amongst themselves instead of effectively uniting against the injustices.
The Italians were promoted and given responsibilities during WW2 to act as security. Germans were taken in under America and offered high positions in anthropology, the sciences, and weapons manufacturing. Germans and Italians run the US ARMY to this very day according to Kay Griggs. The Japanese were just camped. Explain that.
@@OverthereLook The statement wasn't about that, it was about the fact that the camps existed and that not many people acknowledge them. I don't know much about the Italians, but as far as I'm aware the Germans who the US gave high positions to were actually from Germany. The people I'm referring to are Americans of German heritage, who didn't get that treatment. It's not about who had it worst before and after, or to minimize anything, it's just to acknowledge multiple groups were interred and that no one should be forgotten.
@@dallasworth8158 But I have a strong suspicion that you brought it up as a way to divert the accusation of racism, by indirectly telling people that the Japanese camps are not due to racism. Sort of discrediting people for calling old America's actions out. These camps were nowhere near as grand or messed up as the Japanese camps, Native conversion camps, or any other race based political imprisonment that went on in this country. The Italians had it pretty good in comparison to others. So did the Irish, despite being put into "projects" which is another form of better internment camps later given to my people (black). I guess my core message is dishonestly diverting attention won't help us solve this nation's biggest domestic issue. Part of solving a problem is by admitting that we have one. I thought the stereotype originated due to many individuals of east Asian ethnicity originating from collectivist cultures where a lot of pressure is put on young people to succeed. Like the Suneung test in south Korea. It certainly seams that way at my uni, they often work harder and achieve more because they are more afraid of failure and disappointing their family (a double edged sword of course with depression anxiety etc).
I think that has a part in it too. A lot of asian cultures put a lot more pressure in excelling academically and shit. Quite a few east asian countries have higher suicide rates in students because of the effects of overworking and sleep deprivation on mental health, as well as the pressure and stress of having to succeed. I have quite a few asian friends who won't accept anything less than an A in almost everything at school (which kinda sucks for me since our school uses bellcurve marking lol, and I'm asian too. My family isn't *as* pressuring as my aforementioned friends' families, but they certainly do hold me to quite a high standard)
@Viper 47 I mean maybe not "dishonouring", per say, but there definitely is a lot of pressure to not disappoint your family's high standards - at least from my own experience and that of most of my other asian friends - especially those who came over from their respective countries later on.
@Viper 47 I would be hesitant to rule out the role of collectivism, it could be argued that such values are reinforced by the very real demands of how their societies are structured. A family may put pressure on their child with the hope they will succeed in such a competitive environment, therefore the individual may be imbued with a fear they aren't good enough both for society and their family. I also wouldn't say the majority of a population need to commit suicide before you get concerned. Japan and particularly south Korea are very high, particularly if you exclude various 3rd world countries. I'm surprised china isn't that high anymore but maybe Xi fiddles it.
As a Korean-American; my experience with the "Model Minority" stereotype is... well, just like all stereotypes, it's rooted in some interpretation of reality. Frankly even if it started off as a propaganda claim by the US gov't, it's one that they got coincidentally right, because it's still the truth that Asians (South, East, or otherwise) make way more money than Whites, have a higher education rate than Whites, have higher SAT, etc, scores than Whites, etc... That said, I don't like the stereotype because-among other things-it then implies that other nonasian minorities AREN'T "model", and that undoubtedly has all kinds of self-image issues for them. I mean, imagine being told by smart professional-types that, well, you're not Asian, so you're a more worthless minority. Gee, thanks.
I thought it was because of average is differences higher academic accomplishments on average and lower criminal activity. I mean they say it's a myth but I don't get how.

@@tinsote7176 No, it wouldn't cause the number of Japanese people that were interned was about 10 times as the number of Germans interned and the German population in America was significantly larger than the Japanese population meaning internment had a way bigger impact on Japanese Americans than it did on German Americans.
Although I love how it ended with a "don't generalize my race" message but that doesn't just go for people with different Asian backgrounds. It goes for people with African backgrounds too. Sure, I understand that most "African-Americans" were brought into the U.S through slavery and don't necessarily know which African country their from. But for those who do know their history, like me, it kind of sucks being generalized when my parents are from two opposite sides of Africa. ... That's all I have to say. I started ranting
I don't like being generalized as white either. Everyone assumes that we all had slaves when many of us had ancestors who immigrated here long after slavery was "abolished" in America and were sometimes even treated like a scourge. My mother's side was Scotch-Irish, and my father's side was Ukrainian. If you despised the British Imperialism... they used the Irish as a practice round before they honed their craft. They attempted to destroy the culture and kill the language and they even taxed the air. Many Irish were sent to the Americas as prisoners by Cromwell and were conscripted as indentured servants... they were usually bonded for a few years, but depending on the work they didn't usually live to make it out of the forced contract... it gets interchangeably referred to as slavery but it is not exactly the same as what was done to the Africans because eventually if they survived they would be free. This was before the Great Potato Famine of course. My Mother's ancestors who immigrated to America were carpetbaggers just trying to survive and maybe make enough money to marry the woman they wanted to marry. As for my father's side, they fled to escape Communist rule and were lucky enough to leave before the great hunger of the 1930s... it was a forced famine created by Stalin and it killed millions. It was referred to as Holodomor. I have no idea if there are any surviving family from the old country or if they perished. While some traditions were kept, much was lost because during the 30s, 40s, and 50s, having a culture different from the accepted Christian European culture usually made things difficult for immigrants if they didn't seem pure enough. This is why I can't speak Ukrainian at all and it is why my grandmother insisted that we were all 100% Ukrainian and all of my ancestors were Eastern Orthodox Christians (pretty sure this is impossible statistically and I have a sneaking suspicion that we might have had Jewish ancestors as well). The word slave also originates from the word "Slav." Slavic people were the one of the first groups to be enslaved by the ancient Romans... before that slaves were typically just called servants. I am not saying this to negate the oppression that black people go through in our country but rather, to share my takeaway from all of this. Here is my takeaway: because oppression and conquest often involve rape, it is likely that while I have that Irish and Ukrainian heritage, there is likely also the DNA of the English and the Ancient Roman's as well... essentially the blood of oppressed and oppressor flows within me, and somewhere in everyone's history they likely share the same painful history of power struggles. My point is that it is easy for the oppressed to become the oppressor and vice versa and it then becomes a matter whether or not we think we have to keep choosing those options or decide to break the cycle by just taking the time to love and respect ourselves and each other in healthy ways. I feel like lack of love for self creates oppressors and then the pain is projected upon others. So many try to fix others but don't take the time to heal their own bullshit and as a result, the vicious cycle continues through humanity. We as people often try to take power from others to feel better about ourselves in everyday life as individuals, why would that not happen among all peoples over centuries and millennia? I just happen to look like the oppressor right now, but I am just me. I am no more a caricature than you are. I wish that that is what people saw too instead of the generalized image of being a white person in America. These labels are destructive for everyone, and you are not alone in the feeling of being boxed by generalizations. ❤
The last minute of this has really opened my eyes. From now on I demand to be called Scottish American and if anyone try’s to just call me white or European I’m going to get really offended and scream in Gaelic “Tha mi à mo dhùthaich dhùthchasach THU POCA GINTEIL DUINE”
Before I begin, I'm an Indian-American, and I'm so glad people in the comments realize what b.s. this episode is. Just to let y'all know, the model minority theory was created in critical race theory classes to justify the" inherent racism" of the U.S. given the obvious success of Asian-Americans. Half the stuff he said has no bases in empirical data. The work ethic and culture of education in Asian families was arguably the greatest factor for the success of Asian Migrants. Just remember that the majority of Chinese immigrants came before the US started accepting high skilled migrants and the reason why they did become so successful was because of culture. Asian countries see some of the highest economic growth rates in the world and the highest focus on educational attainment, maybe even to a fault. Indian, Chinese, and Korean students spend so much time in schools and even go to night schools as a supplement cause that's how the culture is. Another contributor is the focus on S.T.E.M. in Asian families and countries that have allowed them to get higher paying jobs while the rest of America finds stem boring. We even have a shortage of S.T.E.M. workers now; this is a cultural issue not a racist or governmental one. And to the point that Asian-American who struggle in school have less help from eduators, I have yet to find evidence for that but maybe I'm wrong (If someone finds something about this, leave it in the reply). Obviously, stereotypes are wrong, but I highly doubt struggling Asian students are just left behind because of their race. You can argue that the government has more of a role to fund schools in low-income communities and to try to solve poverty but just know that this video is half-assed and just plain wrong in half of its analysis.

"Sure I'm Asian, but I also play Ultimate Frisbee. Why doesn't anyone talk about that?" We do, but not to your face. Also, the U.S. government did hold *some* German-Americans and Italian-Americans in internment camps, but at a much lower rate than Japanese-Americans.
What exactly did US government do to promote Asians as model minority? Tax break? extra scholarship? I’ve never seen any of those. Instead, many universities discriminate Asians.
I mean, that thing about generalizing people from many cultures into one race isn't just for asians. People from Germany, Russia, Sweden, or Italy are all called white. Just as someone from Japan and someone from Vietnam are both called Asian.
Wait, that *did* actually happen to German Americans. Granted, it was on a much smaller scale, but it still happened. You can’t just lie like that on a show dedicated to debunking popular myths.
SKS Throwaway adam and his show should have phrased that part better, but i get what he was saying. he was saying because german americans were white they were not treated the same as asian americans in world war 2, but what adam and his show failed to mention is that the reason german americans weren't as widely persecuted as asians is because asians have more distinguishable features than the Germans and not just because america was racist.
It also hurts Asians by undermining the validity of their complaints against racism. It’s basically saying “all the racism you experience doesn’t exist because you’re a model minority.” This drives a wedge between Asians and Black Americans.

The people are legally not allowed to question you on it.
You should apply as blacks, it's even better in the affirmative action

"Ya'll"? Looks like we found us some fresh hillbilly blood
Okay, seriously. My last name is Garcia because I'm Filipino.
Funniest part was Cotton later instantly clocked Khan as Laotian
I remember that! 😆so wrong lol
Actually Khan was pretty understanding at first. He politely said he was Laosian and said it was, "a landlocked country between Vietnam and Thailand." He only got angry after Hank and his friends proceeded to stare blankly at him and then just repeat the question.
@@DoctorLazers Yes ! That's right. I was not remembering it correctly.
They're all Asian though.
Putting Asians as model minority actually harms Asians. Affirmative actions discriminates against asians to "level up the playing fields" for other races. For example, Asians get penalties on their university entrance scores.
People do this to religion so much too.
Then what’s hurting you has nothing to do with the “model minority” myth. You have a problem with pro-black affirmative action. You have a problem with pro-black legislation, not white America

@@himlolo I agree with you though. I would want a system where tbe best go forward. But the reality is that affirmitive action is literally designed for Black Americans.
Crystal City held Germans deported from Latin America ( mostly jewish German refugees) these weren’t German Americans, like some people assume.
He also left out the fact that Japan was a much more direct threat to the USA and Germany didn't bomb pearl harbor. There was alot left out
Not only that but in WW1 Their homes churches and schools were all raided drurring the Germaphobia era... Durring that time they were very discriminated against..

@@MarigoldFoxMama and americans are desended from brittain but we don't call them brittish
Nah the main reason why america didnt do that 1:40 to the germans is because they were one of the biggest minorities
Many people there were ethnic Germans that migrated WITH the English during the American Independence (most from Hanover to avoid british influence)
And many people had german relatives
Also, during the 19th century America and the newly formed german state had adored each other, with many germans studying the art of war of the civil war (like general moltke) to help them unify germany
Edit: Whereas the japanese were kicked out because for more than a century, the japanese, and in general east asia, had a quirky relationship with the US... mainly because they busted Japan's economy one century earlier
At least to my research :/
That’s what I was thinking too. I was confused why they just simplified it so much. Probably because this show is bullshit.
Willster the show is still useful in many their aspects tho. Wonder if they’ll ever talk the fed or the “Anglo-American establishment”, probably not cuz they are “white”
they were still white and technically could be loyal to Germany
ronnie. og look up Cecil Rhodes and the Milner group in how they tried to wipe out the Germany because how powerful they were getting. Their “loyalty” to Germany is as real as your in-depth view on the matter
Yeah but that's truth and true things don't fit the democratic socialist narrative.
You'd think he would have found that in his "research"
I hope that you understand.
Me: Boy, Oxygen sure is great!
Adam: ACTUALLY, Oxygen is FILLED with chemicals and pollinates that are SLOWLY KILLING YOU.
Me: .......Oh well
Actually oxygen is poisonous and having only oxygen in the air would actually drown humans in minutes. Oh and is so flammable that fire would more explosive.
Hey maybe I could do this myself.
What kind of oxygen? O, O2 or O3 because pure poison would reakt with most things right away, deadly in to high conzentrations, poison and is litterly ozone but therefore good when high up in the atmosphere to block UV rays.
@@suprafluid3661 I mean O2
Oxygen just kills you really slowly
@@suprafluid3661 The term "oxygen" refers to dioxygen. Ozone is also extremely reactive and toxic. 50ppm will kill a human in 30 minutes.

There actually were Germans interned during WWII, it's just that there so much fewer than the Japanese.
But they won’t say that because it ruins Adam’s narrative.
But hardly anyone knows about it b/c it's not taught in schools

What does that translate to?
Adam forgot to mention that it was the Chinese who built America's railroads (as well as dug the mines for gold) during the 19th century
