I can only recommend it. It is perfect in every aspect. However, if it bothers you that it is a big watch, then refrain from getting it, because it is expensive. BUt if you like it the slightest, then you should save up for it - definetley.
I love this model, I have the original DSSD & I wish I would've known about the James Camron beforehand. I think u forgot to mention the titanium case back & the fact that it says "Deep Sea" in green to commemorate the green vessel James Camron did his dive in over the Mariana Trench . Other than that, great video. I couldn't find your video of the original Deep Sea-Sea Dweller & would love to see it.
Love it. Been wearing it for two years and it's definitely a must have. You never know when Rolex will be discontinuing this model and there are some rumors it'll be very soon..
One would have thought that they would discontinue this model just because of how this dial is so out of character for Rolex... But here we are... Three years later ;) They upgraded the movement and improved the aesthetic last year so they probably plan on keeping it for a couple of extra years.
That "James Cameron" edition of Deepsea is undeniably beautiful ! I am lucky enough to have small wrist size so that watch this large looks silly on my wrist. Nevertheless, as I said, it's estethics is astonishing !
that's quite a piece of technology and the work put into it has to be respected but if I ever find myself any more than say 20ft under the briney then the last thing i'm gonna worry about is whether my watch has sprung a leak.
Fabulous review.. It's an unusual quirky watch for rolex and it wears a little bulky for a suit under the cuffs..but it's a hell of a watch a stunning piece and I'm so glad I've got one..
Nice review! I've had one for about 6 months and I like it. I initially was weary of the size though as you say, it sits very comfortably and looks fine on my 7" wrist. It's definitely a BSD piece, though it's a great watch, lol. Stay well my Friends🍻 RP
Like your review into details explaining the clasp.. you're by far the only one shows and explains it. All the other reviews out there are only moaning about the weight and size... not even mention the valve... others kept the reviews very superficial. Cool review, thanks
Great review J. ! I'm actually not a big fan of the Submariner, but I love this model, from the case size & overall bulk, to the black-to-blue gradient dial with the green "Deep Sea", to the lack of a cyclops. The WR seems like overkill, but it has real character & a unique presence.
Got mine from my AD yesterday although I got the 136660 which doesn't have the fold out segment in the bracelet. Absolutely in love with it and even my gf was astonished at how beautiful it is.
I have this DeepSea and absolutely love it! My Submariner feels kind of cheap beside my DeepSea as the DeepSea does have personality and is chunky which I love. Seen quite a few reviews but bar none this is the absolute best review I've seen. Great job and thank you! As I was following you through the video I was checking out mine at the same time. Made me appreciate it even more if that's possible. I do think in time the DeepSea will continue to grow as an investment and will be the watch Rolex aficionados will want to have in their collection.
Polar Roller Yes i saw it in person... it is nice watch, just dont like cyclops for date, but i need some Rolex with "classic" black face... and i think i will order one, need to wait 6 months for it. Dssd is still best watch for me... nice blue face and its perfect with presenc because am big guy and watch perfeckt fits with me :)
Polar Roller size is perfeckt... for me 40mm watches are just too small... Yout explorer is 42mm? Cyclops, id for rolex watches... for me it will be my 2nd rolex... so i think i will get one, waiting for it 6 months.... i will suffer everyday from this time...
Great video as always.. Think there's a lot to like about this .. certainly see it as a weekend crusader and it does this well. Had the black version on loan and liked it for the most part . However the ridiculously thick glass effects the pop of the dial . Compare it to a sub in low light and the dial looks a little murky which annoys the hell out me . Of course it's necessary for the depth rating but would definitely be a deal breaker for me
Not fussed on the blue to Black dial. Prefer the all black. Otherwise it is awesome. Love the fact that one comes with out the cyclops. Quick question. Do you think the Rolex Milgauss is any good. I like that they are different and I don't expect many people would go for them, which appeals to me. The movements they all have are so confusing to determine the difference, say from the 3130 to 3131 to 3132. What do you think? I'm normally a Seiko guy. I have a first edition black monster, Sarb35, automatic 5 (cheapy but love it), and a Samurai Blue Lagoon. But have been looking at a few Rolexs and others more recently.
Got Buckleys go for a Sea deeller 4000. For me is just too small, and i will order new one 43mm... I own this model blue to black and i realy love it, but black one is more classy, all the time you can put it on... So thats the reason i will go for the new Sea dweller, its black, bigger, red writings... i just dont like cyclope...
This is a stunning watch - I have one! It wears fine - like any watch you get used to it. It’s an amazing piece of engineering to cope with the pressure of being at a depth of over 2 miles. The pressure is immense. However; no one as ever commented when I’ve been wearing it. I had to pay OTT from watchfinder as I couldn’t find one in any of the 9 ADs I contacted Great video thank you.
A Rolex is not in my near future, but perhaps one day. When that day comes, I'd like a Subby, No Date. I am not ever going to be a saturation diver. This is a nice watch and a great review as always.
Why not just wear a clock strapped to your wrist. Yes it has a great dial and no Cyclops but that's about all it has going for it with anyone with a normal slightly smaller wrist. But I'm sure it flies out of the ADs case the minute it gets in it. Which probably means there are a lot of guys walking around with a watch on their wrist thats too big for them. Don't get me wrong I have a GMT Master II Black I love it, I love it at 4mm.
They should've made the dial like the one you get on the Yacht Master. That Deep blue that looks black most of the time. Until the sun kisses it and it blooms like a flower in spring. That gradient looks very cheap (On camera anyways. I haven't seen one in person).
Great review for a watch that's impressive but way thicker than I'd ever buy. I have 2 ceramic-bezel divers & somehow the Rolex bezel looks so much better. FWIW the deepest scuba dive ever was 1090' (332m) & people have died trying to break that record.
As cool as this watch is, it has to be noted that the new Sea Dweller has a lot of upgrades, the movement, the addition of the cyclops (not previously available on such a deep rating), a redesigned bracelet for better proportions to the watch, and the red line to pay homage to the original Sea Dweller and recognize the anniversary of the same. So if you are buying a new extreme dive watch today, that would have to be in contention. It's also going to be a little thinner than this watch, making it a bit more practical as a daily wearer. Sure, this one has three times the depth rating, but that's not going to be an issue ever for anyone. All that said, I have a friend who bought one last year and was just hanging out with him this weekend. It's a stunning watch, the insanely thick crystal kind of magnifies the dial, and it truly is a beast of a watch. Many people like to collect watches, and this would be an amazing addition to any collection. I personally try to find watches that can be worn every day in as many situations as possible, and unfortunately I think this would be a bit too cumbersome for that.
Not that it really matters, but just a bit of extra info. The green colour of the 'Deepsea' logo represents the colour of the submersible that James Cameron used during his descent to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, (The deepest yet known part of the sea). A Rolex Deepsea survived being on the outside of the sub during this dive, which is something that no human could manage as the water pressure is just too much. The deepest any human has been without a submarine is 332 Meters, 1082 Feet. I wear a Doxa Sub 300T which is waterproof to 1200 Meters....FAR beyond the needs of myself personally! The Rolex Sea-Dweller Deepsea is a stunningly beautiful watch, but a bit too big and chunky for my scrawny wrists!
I really like the colors on the dial of this watch. The blue to black looks great and the bright green DEEPSEA really adds character. That character is what I think Rolex has greatly lacked over the years. There is nothing wrong with some of their classic styling, but one of my biggest dislikes about them over the years is they all have that same basic look. Giving their watches more character is definitely a welcome addition.
Looks great. Can't wait to see it compared to the new Sea Dweller coming out this year 2017. 42mm with a cyclopse. That looks like a happy middle ground watch. Good video! Karl, NY
Wish lugs and strap were wider on the Deep Blue. Unless it is very tight, it feels like it will capsize. 2018 model is subtly re-shaped to correct this. Haven't worn the new model so can't say if changes are successful.
"Ludicrous, absurdly large, one-upmanship, bragging rights, extremely chunky, amped, crazy" -- adjectives for a watch? Rolex spins from highly pragmatic (datejust) to insanely gauche (leopard daytona). This one pushes the frontiers of capability. Looking forward to more reviews.
This watch will last your lifetime, and your Childrens and theirs....this watch is a beast and will never let you down....if you are a timid soul or perhaps you sit down when you pee, this watch maybe too much for you to wear.
What a great looking dial! Easily Grand Seiko level. It's a very nice watch but way too bulky. The Submariner with ceramic bezel has a moderate 40 mm diameter and even that size has an overwhelming presence on my wrist, let alone a watch that is way bigger than that.
This seems like such a massive watch that it would probably make sense to make it out out of titanium to help offset some of that weight. You’ll probably need a bcd upgrade as soon as you start wearing that wrist weight lol.
Gee!! Can you imagine if Rolex came out with a changing Coke style red inside the bezel of the submariner along with neon green letters ? Seems like Rolex is making heaps of money on colors alone !! Beautiful watch, too bad the price.
The only reason the cyclops is missing is because the screen would crack at that depth. The technology evolved and the new deepsea (red) has a cyclops.
Sure Dan, but the new Sea Dweller is 'only' rated to 4000ft, not 12800 like the Deep Sea. No evidence that Rolex is going to ever put a cyclops on a Deep Sea.
Great video and info. Great quality watch but in reality a little heavy on the wrist to wear constantly. Could've done it in titanium to save weight though. Too much writing on the dial, like the opening page of a novel. No need for that much.
If I was inclined buy a chunky dive watch, I'd get a Seiko Marine Master 300m and spend the other $9k on parts for my car. Supercharger and KW coilovers? I guess the Rolex is cool but I don't know. Going faster is much more fun. Haha. --Michael
+J.ANTHONY Thanks for the video. One technical question: Do you think wearing a mechanical watch while riding a bike can damage its movement? I am not talking about the case of falling down or ... . What I am talking about is the effect of the vibrations that normally occur when riding a bike, on the watch. Do you think it is something worth caring about?
how does it fit ok the wrist compare to a Panerai? and which one with gain more value in 10 years? The James Cameron or the 2017 Sea Dweller with the red letters?Great video!
Pretty dial, for sure, but ridiculous helium valve, as it's not something useful for a saturation diver, it's not for that? ROLEX will have to go back and start making watches that are the size and look of the 6538 and 5513's etc.
Come on Paul. You know that they are not that good for many reasons. The Rolex ckasp is not designed for a rubber strap and the short end sits more straight rather than curving the way it should. Its because it doesnt thread through the clasp. The strap drips straight down at the lugs pushing the watch case up amd squeezing the top of the wrist. I could go on for an hour. If you wanna see a master piece in rubber strap design. Have a look at the Oris. You think these rubber b clowns would learn something from them.
It is a nice watch, looks great.. BUT.. 45mm is too big, this would be the best Rolex diver ever if it was 42mm. Also the new 2017 Sea-Dweller is 43mm with a cyclops... NOooooo! hopefully Rolex will make a Deepsea at 42mm with no cyclops 🙂
sell a kidney or if you can't abide the thought of surgery then I hear rich Saudi diplomats are always looking for slaves to clean their toilet and wash their roller so pick your least favourite child and get rid!
Love the deep sea, love the dial... Hate the date/date window. I prefer dive watches without dial complications. especially when on a dive, you want the dial as clean as possible with *ALL* the hour markers lumed. The date feature actually works against the watch's purpose. I have no idea why Rolex puts a date on these. I guess they dont bother to get feedback from Divers, or value trendy/fashion buyers over people who will use the watch for its intended purpose.. I'd take a no date sub over this as a dive watch every time
Has any professional saturation diver not paid by Rolex worn one of these things for their day-to-day jobs? I think probably not. This watch is a the horological equivalent of a Dodge Charger Hellcat -- massively over-powered for what it will exposed to by the typical owner, which is mostly likely sitting at a desk all day typing out e-mails. Oh well -- I still like it anyway as it is a curious piece with a very handsome dial. Being a watch lover never had anything to do with practicality or common sense. :)
At 3900 meters, the diver would fit inside the watch case.
Adrian Darmono funny
Adrian Darmono nice
If I could get one Rolex that would be it. Love that thing.
I can only recommend it. It is perfect in every aspect. However, if it bothers you that it is a big watch, then refrain from getting it, because it is expensive. BUt if you like it the slightest, then you should save up for it - definetley.
I have one, and it is a big, heavy watch. I love it.
Mike Stone I wish they used stainless on back for even more weight. 😀. Love this watch.
I love this model, I have the original DSSD & I wish I would've known about the James Camron beforehand. though it is 2018 model he is talking about

I'm on the waiting list for a 136660 in late 2022.
@@beatschnyder3091 I got my 136660 7 years after your post about the rumours it will be discontinued soon! lol
Exact reason I love my 116900 air king - playfulness! Another awesome review 👌🏼
Really didn't think I liked this Rolex, but I think you've made me appreciate it a whole lot more!
That "James Cameron" edition of Deepsea is undeniably beautiful ! I am lucky enough to have small wrist size so that watch this large looks silly on my wrist. Nevertheless, as I said, it's estethics is astonishing !
Excellent review of an exceptional timepiece.
Excellent review J.! The Deep Blue watch matches the new 43.5mm PO in awesomeness! Want, want, want!
that's quite a piece of technology and the work put into it has to be respected but if I ever find myself any more than say 20ft under the briney then the last thing i'm gonna worry about is whether my watch has sprung a leak.
right? hahaha

A patek dress watch will fit nicely under your cuff.
what a outstanding looking watch ! thanks for this video!

it’s actually the opposite for safety reasons. he was wrong

Beautiful watch. Would you say most owners of this watch aren't even divers themselves and just enjoy something more prominent on their wrists?
Obviously.
How’s does someone hit negative on this? It’s a perfect review. People are D-bags...
A Rolex is not in my near future, but perhaps one day. When that day comes, I'd like a Subby, No Date. I am not ever going to be a saturation diver. This is a nice watch and a great review as always.
Corporate meetings and trips to the beach with the family LOL!
That dial is on point. I love the fade from deep blue to black.
Getting it next week cause I deserve it
Why not just wear a clock strapped to your wrist. Yes it has a great dial and no Cyclops but that's about all it has going for it with anyone with a normal slightly smaller wrist. If you were at Bernard watch company then you were in my hometown. Hopefully, you enjoyed yourself in Austin, Texas. Come back anytime.
They should've made the dial like the one you get on the Yacht Master. That Deep blue that looks black most of the time. Until the sun kisses it and it blooms like a flower in spring. That gradient looks very cheap (On camera anyways. I haven't seen one in person).

332m was the guy on heliox?
I paid 17.5 CAD last month still loving it
I love that dial! Great review!
a gorgeous utility tool timepiece. this piece, a sea dweller red print 43mm and sub ceramic and im good!
With review all three tomo against each other as I just completed the trilogy :)
A Rolex Deepsea survived being on the outside of the sub during this dive, which is something that no human could manage as the water pressure is just too much. this is the rolex for me. 40mm submariner is just too small for my personal taste. great review.
Looks great. Can't wait to see it compared to the new Sea Dweller coming out this year 2017. 42mm with a cyclopse. That looks like a happy middle ground watch. Good video! Karl, NY
It's beautiful, but I think the weight of the watch would bother me. Especially for having it as an everyday piece.
nice job!
Personally, for me to wear this watch would be the height of pretension.
Nice review. Affiliation with a watch vendor is a great idea and opportunity. I will check out bernard watch. Looking forward to more reviews.
Thanks Neil
Great review. I have this watch on a black NATO and love it. It's in daily rotation with my Sub-C and Omega speedmaster MOTM.
This watch will last your lifetime, and your Childrens and theirs....this watch is a beast and will never let you down....if you are a timid soul or perhaps you sit down when you pee, this watch maybe too much for you to wear.
What a stunning watch, that would be a great addition to any watch collection.
Bernard is a class watch company. I have been there once drove up from the Houston area. Good video.
Cheers.
WAITING FOR MINE.... Waiting for the call from my AD
Sorry I meant to say second nature also have you seen the new chrward c8 5 dsy power reserve amazing what do you think of it
What a great looking dial! Easily Grand Seiko level. It's a very nice watch but way too bulky. The Submariner with ceramic bezel has a moderate 40 mm diameter and even that size has an overwhelming presence on my wrist, let alone a watch that is way bigger than that.
Have you reviewed the late generation SD4K yet? That's my favorite modern Rolex.
Congrsts Anthony youre doing those reviews second nation like a champ
Thank you!
Such a cool watch.
I wish Rolex could make it in 40mm..
Of course this is never gonna happen but it doesn't hurt to dream about it ;)
Amintas Neto
Good comment & you're right
Amintas Neto huh? they basically did I think it was called the sea dweller 4000 (4000ft) it came after this one.
116600 is 40mm. Sea dewaller
Can you please review a Botta watch? There aren't really many videos covering this brand
Great review and a stunning watch, definitely on my list.
The coolest watch in Rolex sports line
great video this watch will always dedicated to james cameron and his green sumarine
Peter Bedrosian and his lady battering ways
Good review J. Anthony, apart from twice saying "yore", lol
I have a new 12660 does it have a mosaic at or around 6pm still. Thanks.
I'm real curious about a watch that Bernard has in their stock... Omega Seamaster Professional GMT (2535.80). Thoughts?
3:04 I note some James Cameron's have an engraved number to the left of the Helium release valve. Yours does not. Is there a reason for this?
Great video and info. Great quality watch but in reality a little heavy on the wrist to wear constantly. Could've done it in titanium to save weight though. Too much writing on the dial, like the opening page of a novel. No need for that much.
Most Rolex owners don t dive and have no time to but you Can find Them in striptease bars
If I was inclined buy a chunky dive watch, I'd get a Seiko Marine Master 300m and spend the other $9k on parts for my car. Supercharger and KW coilovers? I guess the Rolex is cool but I don't know. Going faster is much more fun. Haha.

I hear you!
+J.ANTHONY
Thanks for the video. One technical question:
Do you think wearing a mechanical watch while riding a bike can damage its movement? I am not talking about the case of falling down or ... . What I am talking about is the effect of the vibrations that normally occur when riding a bike, on the watch. Do you think it is something worth caring about?
I took my Orange monster on a 1000 mile journey on a dirt bike. it is still just fine.
OK. Good to know.
44mm and 17.5mm thicknes
I have the exact watch and I use i t for divving!
how does it fit ok the wrist compare to a Panerai?
and which one with gain more value in 10 years? The James Cameron or the 2017 Sea Dweller with the red letters?Great video!
It fits well. Very similar to a 45mm PAM.
I see and which one will gain more value in 5-10years do you think?Deep sea or the the 2017 Sea dweller with red text?
Time will tell. If I was investing in a Sea Dweller at this point I'd buy a 16660
To wear I would choose the 116600. It 'only' has 4000ft water resistance but it is 40mm and not thick as a brick.
I'm still on holiday. Enjoyed the review. I don't think I've seen one of these before. It's a monster though! Talk again soon.
Bernard; thanks for supporting J Anthony. anther great review. than you.
Nice
Pretty dial, for sure, but ridiculous helium valve, as it's not something useful for a saturation diver, it's not for that? ROLEX will have to go back and start making watches that are the size and look of the 6538 and 5513's etc.
I like Rolex's taste.
Ma786sai Dua my AD can get me a Ref 136660 in 3 months. Do I GOAHEAD with 136660, or buy a 126660 black now?
Great video brother!
Giancarlo Rosselli hello fellow ugwc member xD
definitely a nice watch but I think I will stick to my Hamilton viewmatic
The watch was created to honor the dive itself not James C.
Mens watch goes on the left!!
You think these rubber b clowns would learn something from them.
it would have beeen perfect if the lugs size was wider

Why?
-So it looks more gaudy for classless Americans? lol
Rex Apis I'm American duh wut uhhh duhhh wutttt merica!!!
I have one the best watch ever, nice and big good balance
Is that place in Austin
Yes
Masterpiece
The Nicest Timepiece In The Rolex Family... I 🖤💙💚 It... My Favorite Of All 💯👀🖤💙💚🤔 #BEAUTIFUL
Beautiful Piece!!Thinking remortgaging the house and grabbing one of these..
sell a kidney or if you can't abide the thought of surgery then I hear rich Saudi diplomats are always looking for slaves to clean their toilet and wash their roller so pick your least favourite child and get rid!
Fat Boab lmao..I'm getting the plane rickets now..I'll send all three of em
Nick G I'd wait until they're all old enough to be really productive as they'll command a better price. then you can get a sit-down lawnmower as well.
Fat Boab llol...sounds like a plan
Love the deep sea, love the dial... Hate the date/date window. I prefer dive watches without dial complications. especially when on a dive, you want the dial as clean as possible with *ALL* the hour markers lumed. The date feature actually works against the watch's purpose. I have no idea why Rolex puts a date on these. I guess they dont bother to get feedback from Divers, or value trendy/fashion buyers over people who will use the watch for its intended purpose.. I'd take a no date sub over this as a dive watch every time
Why these are $12k? Max it should be $7k
solidarity?
4:54 Not so good for cooking chicken
I hate the cyclops in the Rolex. This is the watch to have!....."Excellence"
No cyclops. This is a good thing..
