I’ve watched through ep 7 and still have the finale left, so it could still all fall apart, but as of right now I disagree with everything Dave has said. The show is super fun and the twist is 100% additive. I believe it to be a commentary on film noir cliches. There is an affectation to film noir that the shown traffics in and it is accepted as a stylistic choice because that what we expect from the genre. People don’t actually behave the way noir detectives behave. What the twist does is ground those behaviors by changing the context in a delightfully bold way. I loved it.

So, the twist. Look what JJ Abrams’ mystery box philosophy hath wrought.
Or Iain M. Banks?
So, its Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid with aliens.
I enjoy the show but it is not a work of genius like DMDWP.
