Not sure if you noticed but your control section to the left of the hood started becoming more hydrophobic as you used it. My guess would be that certain ceramic coatings that are failed react more readily with whatever type of additive they have in OP Spotless. Some other products block the OP Spotless additive from adhering to the surface.

My guess is the hood, like behind the wheels, endures more dirt and debris spray while driving. Try testing 1/2 the trunk lid and see if it works better there. Alternatively, maybe the sun wears the coatings too, as it does most everything else.

Here’s an idea Scott: take a panel, use a wheel acid on the paint, compound it, decon it, use wheel acid again. Dry the paint. Spray and wipe in OP Spotless like a spray wax (apply it dry). Check for hydrophobics. I am certain this product has some sort of silicone in it.

As it gets warmer, I let OP Spotless dwell 15-30 seconds and always in the shade.
I have been in the detailing game for 23 years now and have used countless products, for ceramics I have settled with Owners Pride for 1 simple reason, they have a federally compliant warranty. Everything else is just a bonus, the products work, customer service is amazing. If I run into an issue I can call the company founder and he answers the phone. The support network amongst the detailers is the best I have seen, the list is endless. They also offer a $100 referral as account credit for new referrals that join, so if you are considering joining the OP Team please use me as a reference. They also offer a full line of detaing products, OP Compound is a game changer. It is a compound and polish that is pad dependent, it will finish out even the softest, most finicky of paints without marring if paired with the correct pad, 1 product start to finish for a paint correction.

If you are so convinced it has something in it, adding hydrophobic properties, then please explain why the true coatings came back while most of the spray coatings did not. Your theory is easily disproven by simply watching the video again.

    • @yftinthyn007

@@urbanedgeautodetailing every coating has a different chemical makeup. Likely the polymers in OP Spotless are stickier to those specific coatings in a spray and rinse application method. I guarantee you if you use OP Spotless like a spray wax it will leave polymers behind on any of those surfaces.
The entire product itself is extremely suspicious because every effective water spot removers have some very strong acids. Even your home Limeaway and CLR use sulfuric acid. There’s no acidic warning on their label or SDS?? Weird.
The solution is also milky which is a very strong indicator that it has a polymer dispersion in there.
My guess is they know water spot removers degrade coatings so they added a little bit of protection in there to boost the beading while also removing water spots.

You need to apply more and sit longer. A single application is all you need. I will easily use a 20 to 30oz per vehicle, as it's safe for all surfaces but fabric. On painted surfaces, apply liberally, dwell for 5 to 10 minutes if shaded and cool, take a clean towel or mitt and agitate. Then rinse. Water neutralizes the close to pH neutral product. On glass, I will use a white scotchbrite pad and it will clean up well. There isn't any protection in this product. But it will unclog any surface enough to all it to be hydrophobic. Then reapply a lsp. Spotless is a great product.

I have similar experience with Waterspot remover from Gtechniq. But to my surprise when I use a shampoo right after the Waterspot remover, the coating "clogs" again, sometimes even more than before the Waterspot remover.... I'm yet to find out if the spot remover is causing some fake hydro, that the shampoo eventually kills, and as the surface is now super clean, there's no hydrophobic properties left.... Or if the combination of a shampoo right after the spot remover causes a deteoriation from the coating itself... Maybe the spot remover makes it "soft" and the shampoo ends up being to harsh on it, therefore killing it.

You would basically be putting it on a contaminated vehicle covering up the problem instead of fixing it, and the booster probably won't last as long. 50/50 schampoo/vinegar essence and double distilled water. I want it to be pretty thick so I sits longer on the car and let i sit for 5-15 min depending on time of year, how warm it is and so on.
Can you please try it and tell us what you think of it?
I sometimes think the build up like salt causes a layer that effects the cermic and water behavior.

Absoutely! Needed a rear wheel bearing at 90k miles and a starter at 120k miles - otherwise just regular oil changes, plugs, and fluids.
