You don't understand Hamas because you have been fed with the wrong narrative. Surrounded by the Sanghi clamour, it is natural you find things difficult. Short answer is - Hamas is a comprehensive organization consisting of not just a military wing, but also social services to education services to charity to representing negotiations and more. The organization represents resistance in the face of the insurmountable presence of Israeli oppression, and is a beacon of hope that instills self respect in Palestinians when faced with constant Israeli humiliation. I disagree. She was completely incoherent here. Hamas has a political wing and a militarised wing, no a military branch, no it is all militarised and but I cannot say if the military wing controls the political wing....I mean, what does she know.

It is incorrect to say that very few Israeli's killed on Oct 7 were soldiers; nearly 300 uniformed IDF soldiers were killed and many more off-duty reservists and police were also killed. It's been estimated that 2/3rds of those killed were military targets. An unknown number, possibly dozens, were actually killed by the IDF including tanks firing into kibbutz and Apache gunships opening fire on civilians fleeing the Nova music festival.
Remember Gideon Levy saying Hamas's strike has to be viewed in context. He also said Hamas is the result of a mutation caused by the seige of Gaza by Israel making the former the largest open air prison in the world.
"Whoever is against a Palestinian state should be for transferring the funds to Gaza, because maintaining a separation between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza helps prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state," The Jerusalem Post quoted Prime Minister Netanyahu as saying in 2019.
Sir, I am not convinced with her view, merely writing a book does not make her an expert of Hamas because she is biased on her perception because she is ignoring the targeted killings of Hamas top leadership which forced Hamas to take revenge killings. I need apology from her and from you because I have also completed my PhD thesis on Hamas. My topic was The role of Hamas in Palestinian politics since 1993
Karan should have allowed his guest to express and explain the situation instead of cutting her short repeatedly and trying to push his own understanding in her mouth. We wanted to hear her opinions in more detail.
“Radicalization of Hamas, radicalization of Hamas, radicalization of Hamas….” Ms. Caridi keeps telling him to consider the context and the complexity of the situation. Unfortunately, Mr.Tharpar is only interested in one thing: is Hamas a terrorist group. But she is not giving him the candy he so desperately wanted. Feel sorry for him!
I absolutely object to Karam interrupting to put his words in her mouth - this is dishonest and I have lost all respect for him as an interviewer. Unsubscribe.
Jordan took 2 million Palestinians in their country in 1948. However, after helping them, they tried to overthrow Jordan's Hashemite monarchy. They're acting as a state within a state, the fedayeen openly disregarded Jordanian laws and regulations. Hence, they're kicked out of Jordan.
thaper is a fantastic interviewe, however i am confused about the claims of Ms caridi.. i just read the 2017 charter and i could not fine what she claims.. perhaps she could highlight the specific text to which she refers
Why are people trying to cut down Paolo Caridi? She's met Hamas leaders and spoken to them, so surely she knows something more than us. She will not reveal everything. The Israel - Palestine region is not easy to figure out in one interview like a fashionable debate-trend. We have to go back to the history of Jewish prosecution, the creation of Israel by the British, the resentment of Palestinians for not being consulted, the helplessness of Jews because no one wanted prosecuted refugees, the paranoia of Israel about Palestinians where they wanted to push them out of their land driving them to the West Bank and Gaza, the determination of Hamas to never let go of Jewish occupation and Israel, the further violent means that the Hamas used to become a terrorist organization, the 2-nation theory that had no takers and more. Karan Thapar asked sharp questions that were relevant to the issue. And Paola answered in the best way she could. It is highly possible that scholars like Paola may be asked by security agencies in governments not to speak about xyz issues. Her hesitancy is misread as confusion,
Karan Thaper keeps putting words to Paola Caridi's mouth. He was not asking any question about the context. He should be asking what Israel has been doing all along. He is asking YES/NO questions!
Thank you deeply for these discussions. You have made it to the top of my list. In my mind it is helpful to think of the situation of enslaved Africans in the United States before the Civil War and the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto as past examples of similar in some ways territory.
Hamas, as we understood from this interview, is an extremely complex organization. It has allowed itself to shuttle back and forth between militarism and political movement because of its own contradictory stands and also because of changes in the ground reality. The ruthless occupation of Israel forced Hamas to take on militarism and pave the way for acceptability of Hamas among the Palestinians. It may resemble (albeit poorly) the so-called terrorist movements launched in India during the freedom struggle. Ms. Caridi is absolutely right when she says that Hamas needs to be understood in the context of the ground reality and the role of Israel. This interview really was an eye-opener as far as the complexity in Hamas is concerned. I profusely thank Mr. Karan Thapar and Ms Paola Caridi for this excellent interview.
Mr Karan Thapper , true to your wonderful style of asking questions,it was undoubtedly a very fine and well constructed interview. I feel your last question was very pertinent as you yourself rightly pointed out that would complete wiping out of Hamas also erase the ideology of Hamas . I think her answer to your question was neither clear nor properly articulated! In my opinion , not necessarily correct, that Israel with its military might can completely dismantle Hamas, but difficult to kill the idea. Hamas will spring up under some other name and push forward the ideology with more vigour n zeal . I think wiping out of the ideology is far more important or difficult than the physical obliteration . The kind of drubbing that the people of Gaza have been subjected to and turning of Gaza into rubble would not be forgotten and it would further strengthen their ideology! The solution lies in creation of two states acceptable to both Palestinians and Israelis! Again very difficult and complicated issue!
Indians are against Hamas because Palestinians are Muslims. To Indians, it doesn't matter what Palestinians do or don't. A brilliant interview like this is a waste of time in India. Our minds are made up against Palestine.
To understand Hamas and Middle Eastern mind you need to have a PHD in psychology, MA in theology and a minium undergraduate degrees in history and geography and a very positive outlook outlook in humanity.
brilliant Interview. Thanks Mr. Thapar. It's actually difficult for Indians to understand Palestinians, Hamas and Israel. Dehumanizing of Hamas or Palestinian and Israel goes hand in hand. Thus making issue extremely complicated. Indians goes by containing extremism of indian Muslims if they lean towards Palestinian cause blindly owing to religion than most of the Hindus lean towards Israel. So Radicalisation of Muslims gives birth to Radicalisation of Hindus and political narrative of Hindutava politics. Only solution is that Muslims and Jews find peace with each other's existence. Israel is chasing a Mirage of racial purity while Muslims are chasing the Mirage of Arab or Islamic purity like fanaticis. Only solution is that Israel is made into secular State constiting PPL of all PPL staying there with equality just like king Baldawin the 4th did. Sadly no peace process can ever work since both parties are equally fanatic. Moreover Jews are more to be balmed since it's their fanatics based on racism that gave birth to various version of Abrahamic faith and they all turned out to be more deadly and anti Jews fundamentally while Jews played victim card instead of changing their racial attitude and refroming their religion. West found peace only when it separated it's politics frm Abrahmic religion aka Christiannity and reformed it. The same wisdom Muslims and Jews never showed thus they both are controversial and absuive to others. Either ways of anyone wins that will open a Pandora's box of further fanatism. Palestianns winning will give birth to Caliphates and Islamic fundamentalists who would completely reject the idea of secualarism and nation state and entire world will burn. While If Israel were to win it would give birth to some other palestian cause since they both are illusions and byproduct of each other's abuses of not being at peace with itself and changing a Mirage using religion as a tactic. However We Indians should see to it that we don't harm any community irrespective of our believe or ideologies. Israel is favourite of Non Muslims owing to Indian Muslims fanatism. That's all. And their admiration of Israel is all ABT containing Muslims and keeping them in chk.. which could have been avoided if Indian muslims would have given up politicial Islam and their religious abuses. Hindus have stayed castist and not communal. The idea of a Hindu being communal is supplemented as a tactic to save their skin frm Muslims. Thanks Mr. thapar for ur hard work and making us understand things of a completely diff world.
The problem between Arab Muslims and Jews is created by smart British Christians after first or Second World War. There has been no confrontation between Arabs and Jews prior to it. Jews have been living with Muslims friendly, right from Spain, Turkey and earlier. Problem is more in present form after non implementation of Oslo Agreement for Two State Solution where Rabin was assassinated. We can imagine how would it have been nice if Two State solution being implemented. Prior to Oslo Agreement Palestinians do not recognize Israel. It was Yasir Arafat who recognized Israel as an State but non implementation of Agreement. Indian Muslims are not fanatics at all. They only want implementation of Rule of Law, Law of the Land. Present day crises among Hindus seems to creation of RSS which is having military wings as well.
Karan Filasteen and Israel problems is not an easy subject to discuss in one sitting when we know complication for centuries. Christian are part of problem but they are not in the picture. They must have to bring in this complicated problem to solve.
It's very easy to sit here and talk about others. There are extremist in every religion regardless of what that religion teaches. Nobody is a saint in this world but everybody has to look within to see how evil you can be. Raping women, parading them naked and beheading children is really demonic whether you like it or not.
One simple question, Does Hammas recognizes the right of Israel to exist at all ? If it doesn't Israel has got every right to go after Hammas as it is a perpetual threat for its very existence !!
Basically, Netanyahu is the Hamas of Israel. He radicalised Israeli politics. He is solely responsible for what's happened to this day since 2006. The Likud which by the way was democratically elected. Which means a large proportion of the Israelis are in agreement with his policies.
The formula is very simple, Karan. Look at the dictionary definition as also a political definition. And if you apply that definition, you'd find that Israel has been far more of a terrorist organization/state pursuing genocide, overtly and covertly, than a terrorist Hamas can dream of. And some basic research shows that the two-state solution was made impossible by Israel. What do you mean by "physically eliminate" the state of Israel? The establishment of Israel was based on the physical elimination of the Palestine state. How can this mother of all contexts be ignored? Accepted, yes, but ignored as though it never happened? Please see if you can invite Norman Finkelstein and Miko Peled to discuss the topic.

Karan, you are interviewing her to get her perspective based on her research and not put words in her mouth to suit and confirm what you probably think
Mr Thapar, you have some great interviews and your questions add clarity. However in this particular interview your quest for defining Hamas as a terrorist or not, ensued too many interruptions, to the flow. It is a complex situation and we were just beginning to get it, but I can see your goal was to get a simple answer to whether Hamas could be labelled terorrist. She was trying to talk about the walls, about changes in Israel with Netanyahoo, and other issues. Unfortunately truncating her like that was a loss of understanding the nuances of an organisation existing in settler colonial occupation with changing radicalisation of the Israeli government. Please note that you have some outstanding videos and is a pleasure to listen to . I am just giving my honest opinion with the hope the feedback will aid your excellent presentations. Thank you
if the blockade placed by Israel on the Palestinians pushed them closer to the Hamas due to lack of anothher choice, what will the ghettoisation of the Muslims in India will do to them?
How can we forget the flying men landing at the beach party site? Shoot to kill partying youth? How can we forget the beheaded children ? How can we forget the innocent men and women shot and killed at their Home? Try hard no one can! Yet the bias and motivation do not rest. That is how it is ! Action draw reaction. The strong and morally right always strike hard. Peep into the historical miseries.
Karan, Filasteen problem cannot be discuss in one or two sittings. It requires different people during different discussion and then you summarize at the end.
“Is Hamas a terrorist group, is Hamas a terrorist group, is Hamas a terrorist group…”Mr. Thapar so desperately wanted her to say Hamas is a “terrorist group”, but she adroitly let him sing the song”Hamas is terrorist group”. What a shame!
One thing that Paola Caridi did not is that Israel wants Hamas to be as extreme as it can be, thats why it destroyed the plo and allowed hamas to grow, it is easier to manufacture consent and achieve your ambitions when your enemy is at his most desperate and unhinged and can be labelled as terrorist

Forthright and outspoken - no question about that.
He also said Hamas is the result of a mutation caused by the seige of Gaza by Israel making the former the largest open air prison in the world.
its was not just the siege of gaza it was also because of the peaceful religion spreading peace around the world that poisoned the well
"Whoever is against a Palestinian state should be for transferring the funds to Gaza, because maintaining a separation between the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza helps prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state," The Jerusalem Post quoted Prime Minister Netanyahu as saying in 2019.
All your effort Kran to prove a Hamas a terrorist org. If you so bold and honest in these issue, Put the IDF ON THE SAME SCALE.
No, he won’t
Karan Thapar compelled this lady to say I Don't know and partially true ,many times. A confused paper tigress
Very informative and beautifully described......this is the actual face .......
Thapar knows his audience: they can 'understand' things better if described in black and white terms.
This lady is cagey and evasive. She's avoiding the word terrorists.
There was some confusion between the two, even then Karan Thapar in the end succeeded in understanding what the guest was trying to put forward.
They also collaborated with Sadam to invade and loot Kuwait, liberated by USA
thaper is a fantastic interviewe, however i am confused about the claims of Ms caridi.. i just read the 2017 charter and i could not fine what she claims.. perhaps she could highlight the specific text to which she refers
After 911 when the towers fell, Some Palestinians celebrated it. And at some point were insisting on building an Islamic center near the site.
Old News, They have already built one in the adjacent area.
Thapar Sir it's a game of oil and sale of war equipments
My respect to this gentleman
Call Hamas for interview. Why are you asking these people who are guessing about Hamas?
Dear respected Karan Thaper, please interview the American former CIA Scott Ritter? I am very interested in how that works out. Thank you.
The complicity of Hamas could be simple if Karan brought Israel's actions..even war crimes recognized by the UN.
How will this conversation stop the merciless killing of people like genocide or ethnic cleansing?
*Gazans have handed over their death warrant and also destruction of their homes to terrorist group Hamas.*
Do I even care about what what Hamas is? Most important is what Hamas DID and that is terrible!
🙏
“Its’s not India & it’s not Italy. It’s a land under occupation.” Very well said.
One simple question,
Does Hammas recognizes the right of Israel to exist at all ? If it doesn't Israel has got every right to go after Hammas as it is a perpetual threat for its very existence !!
What a stupid question, The Official Charter of Hamas is : "To push Jews into the Sea".
Good interview but the audio is very poor
Great interview, however if questions be also asked about the plan and action of Israel towards Palestinians, it would have been a 360 degree view
being a from Palestine, thanks for trying to understand the situation without israele propaganda
Basically, Netanyahu is the Hamas of Israel. He radicalised Israeli politics. He is solely responsible for what's happened to this day since 2006. The Likud which by the way was democratically elected. Which means a large proportion of the Israelis are in agreement with his policies.
israe; has free elections when did hamas have elections 2007
Hinduvta channels like wion, republic and india today are like fox new og usa
Hope more indians get news from these intelegent people like karan.
Free palestine from bangladesh
Thank you
Interview Norman Finkelstein.
if the blockade placed by Israel on the Palestinians pushed them closer to the Hamas due to lack of anothher choice, what will the ghettoisation of the Muslims in India will do to them?
India is 1 billion people Muslims and Hindus live together.
She is trying to say that it is more of a resistance movement I think in context to the history of Palestine .
The gestures must be reciprocal and Israel must stop settlements in the occupied territories. Hamas must also recognise for coexistence
❤️💯🙏
“Is Hamas a terrorist group, is Hamas a terrorist group, is Hamas a terrorist group…”Mr. Thapar so desperately wanted her to say Hamas is a “terrorist group”, but she adroitly let him sing the song”Hamas is terrorist group”. What a shame!
If hamas is justified then the Taliban should also be a resistance force which is fighting the USA occupation of afganistan
JazakALLAH.
Ask Israeli spokespeople if they have heard of the Hagganah and Irgun
Its a headache listening her.. 😅😅😅
I like Karan Thapar but Paola, its so hard to get her.
