Thanks for posting.Flint walls are a work of art.One day I'll have some flint walls around my garden! I constantly admire the walls of East Sussex and Eastbourne.I love the song too.
We have billions of tons of Flint in many parts of the UK, don't worry about it being wasted. It litters farmers fields and piles up on the sea shore where is has been washed out of the ground.
Inspired by Eddie, I have just successfully completed my first Flint wall panel( a modest six feet by four feet area). I have now embarked of making the side and rear of a garden outbuilding using natural flint, roughly faced rather than knapped to rectangular perfection as 'masters' such as Eddie could achieve so easily.
Eddie, you are the best ! If only I had known about you when I knapped 20 ton of Flint to build my barn in Kent 30 years ago, knapping 20 tons of Flint gives you a real appreciation of this method of building, which very few care to bother with today. Very many thanks for posting this. Chris B.
Eddie your a star mate, knapping flint into square's is the hardest part and half bond with a queen closer, I have laid it myself on a few jobs, but you are the best.
well that's quite a skill, Time consuming work and quite expensive unless you have a a large amount of flint nearby that you can collect. I'm very impressed with how straight and level that wall is, it certainly explains why some of those ancient buildings took several generations to actually construct. I've tried flint knapping and made cutting tools and arrowheads which isn't really that difficult as long as you have plenty of flint to work with . Heck sometimes you can just what a piece with a hammer and easily end up with a few sharp shards suitable for cutting. Building is a different thing altogether and requires a whole different set of skills
Great video best I've seen about flint work. I'm a bricklayer and love doing flint work but don't do enough to be as good as this guy. Am I right in thinking those square flints are sometimes known as "dapper flints" so called because the stone is well dressed?
Gold great video really enjoyed that. Thought I would do some research as we started doing some pointing lime mortar based on some brickwork that has some Flint knaping patterns built into it. Very difficult to re-point. Anybody has any suggestions I would be more than open to learning some moor .
@@NecroBanana Thats quite probably true i agree. Although i think they would definitely stop to admire the "hand built cave" and would definitely have a field day with the pile of chippings leftover.
Much respect to you sir from an old Flint knapper from the USA
As a builder that has worked with different materials all my life , you’ve inspired me 😊

a man after my own heart!
Can’t hardly imagine how his back has held up all these years the way he’s bending starting around the 1:40 mark or so.

Amazing work, thanks!
I love the song at the end
Brilliant.
quality
This makes my heart weep
If ancient man saw that man, they would probably think he's insane wasting all that perfectly good flint on walls rather than arrowheads.
I bet they would change their minds when they saw the house he built
@@tomjohnson5713 ancient man would still prefer to hunt and move around

What a waste of amazing English flint!
Half of England is made from flint. In my area anything else is totally alien
