- When it comes to hand luggage holidays, layering is non-negotiable. For my recent trip to visit Lyla in Madrid, I decided to focus on packing versatile pieces that I’d be able to layer for warmth in the morning and easily shed for some post-siesta Spanish sun. One of my favourite tips for packing light is to choose one or two staple pieces that you can mix and match with any outfit. Perhaps this is an all-seasons coat, a wearable and walk-proof pair of shoes, or a playful but practical handbag. And of course, this was the perfect weekend to say "hola" to my glorious Spanish hat…

@wende.with.an.e Great suggestion. I don't think Trinny ended up wearing the reversible, quilted, long gilet for example. But DID wear a new silver shirt she bought there for evening. I think we're all a bit the same. You improvise when you get there!

I keep thinking 7-16 degrees Celsius is freezing for me 😂😂😂. I Live in Porto and it doesn't get as cold as Madrid in winter. I am a summer lover, anything below 25 and I think that it's cold. I switch off the Aircon in July/August in Majorca because I get cold sleeping with the Aircon 😂😂😂😂😂. Give me a down jacket for at least 6 months out of the year 😂😂😂😂. Lovely outfits 😍 and that silver bag is super 😎🆒
Loved your outfits - spent many spring. summers and Autumns in Madrid when my daughter lived there and hopefully many more when she moves back next year. Smart casual and quirky work well so loving the acid yellow. It’s quite warm this weekend - just seen friends sitting outdoors and Madrileños don’t sit outside below 20deg minimum. Early mornings are cooler than evenings usually.

I’ve just bought the mismatched brooch set from Cos and very excited about it! I’ve noticed that over and again, my jackets seem to be missing something, and I feel that this is that one, especially as it’s gold and silver+the mismatch appeals to the funky side of me. Have a fab time and I too would love how to pronounce Loewe 😂💋

I like the yellow top - you keep calling it acidic but it's nowhere near as neon & cool toned as some of your other yellows. In other words, it's flattering on you but still packs a punch!

I love the necklace from Tanzania, especially with the yellow top! I’m not a fan of brand names on clothing… and that Loewe scarf reminds me of a Liverpool FC or Manchester United fan-scarf…the brand name is distractingly large, and proclaiming self-importance as if it were the star of the show…in my opinion the star of the show is always the person, the clothes are subservient to the face, the body, the personality. I usually love your clothes, even if they’re not exactly my vibe, but that scarf triggers irrational rage in me!!!!

Can I ask why you wear your hats so far back on your head , I always wear them forward so the brim is more visible and also tilt it to one side for a different look sometimes

Just to say I think that jacket works very well with the trousers the different navy looks cooler.

The top with the elastic waistband is very cute, and I wonder (because I also have a long body/short legs) if your low back gets exposed when you sit while wearing that; mind absolutely would, so it stops me from wearing waist-length tops, even when they look great while standing.
Stunning outfits, no need to tell us if you got them on the sale, you’re a millionaire so you can afford to buy things even if they ‘re not on sale. So don’t think wearing your halo, like you do your hats, will make me and others like you less if you buy designer things that are not on sale. (Tongue in cheek) That’s what makes your closet so interesting. Combining designer and retail. Now looking at you, who would think that string of pearls you got from Zara are not the fresh water pearls sold by some high end jewelers?

😖Hated chunk sole at first, but I'm afraid Trinny has finally 🎉 won 🎉 me over to the DARK SIDE. Besides being comfy w/great walkability〰️they give an ✨️edgy glam vibe✨️ that you simply wouldn't get w/a classic loafer.
Pure Classic is quite elegant & chic, but it can also feel a bit boring & uptight. The high/low contrast is brilliant, esp. for a chill holiday vibe.

It’s a personal quirk of mine, but every time I see a hat worn back on the head (a la Boy George in Culture Club) I just want to place it squarely on top of the head, as designed. It’s my preference, but you do you. I think my parents came to visit me two or three times during the 4 years I was at university. I hope Lyla is getting the opportunity to spread her wings and experience university with friends her age as well as with her mother. Roots and wings-that’s what kids need, and you’ve definitely given her solid roots. Now give her confidence to soar! ❤

By saying “you do you” I’m acknowledging that she has a different preference and that is great; it’s what makes one’s style very personal. So if you choose to wear your hat on the back of your head, terrific! You do you and I’ll do me.
My Grandmother born early in the 20th century always said a hat should frame the face. If you look at pictures of the Queen Mother in her later years her hats do just that.
