Electrolytic Cell Tutorial Part 1 - Electrolytic Cell Diagrams and Calculations

In this chemistry tutorial video, we look at what an electrolytic cell is and how to draw an electrolytic cell diagram or model for a process like electroplating. We look at how to label anode and cathode and why a battery is needed for electrolysis. We look at how to calculate the mass of metal that is plated in an electroplating process if given the current in amps (amperes) and the time. We also look at the reverse situation, where if given the mass of metal plated and the current, we can calculate the time required. Finally, we look at how to use the reduction potentials to figure out what is oxidized at the anode and what is reduced at the cathode and determine the cell potential, Ecell and the voltage that is required from the battery source.
