    why did the compartment open up like that on the engine

      The doors are part of the engine thrust reverse system. The engine you see with the thrust reverser deployed is the Rolls Royce Trent 700 engine on a Cathay Pacific Airbus A330 that was landing in Cebu Philippines. A company called Aircelle makes the engine nacelle (including the thrust reverse system visible in the video) for the RR Trent 700, and the system involves four pivoting doors that redirect the bypass air from the turbofans. This quickly reduces thrust from the engine and it also creates additional drag, helping to slow the aircraft.

      Ron Hugo I figured it was something to do with increasing the drag i guess its like opening the widows in my car when im on the highway maybe thanks for the help
