Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 was launched at the 2016 auto show in Detroit. The new E-Class shares modular platform with the C-Class, and the S-Class. W213 is about 4 cm longer, than its predecessor. It’s also got 6 cm longer wheelbase, but it is also marginally narrower and lower. Depending on engine and trim the new E-Class can by up to 100 kg lighter, than the model it replaces. As expected, new Mercedes Benz E-Class resembles the C and S-Class, which were built based on Sensual Purity design philosophy. E-Class W213 is a bit more fluid, whereas in W212 certain details were stressed with sharp lines, like rear wheel arches, which were supposed to resemble W120, better known as the Ponton. E-Class W213 is packed full of new safety features, like active brake assist, or evasive steering assist, which helps you avoid collision. In case a collision cannot be avoided the car will pump side seat bolsters to better protect the occupants from the impact. And it will also emit a sound, which should offset sound of the crash. The E-Class can also be specified with adaptive LED lights, which give better lights, but at the same time avoid oncoming traffic, so as not to blind other drivers. The 2017 E-Class also has Drive Pilot semi-autonomous driving system.

Great review. UK prices are much less. £53k gets you a loaded 220d AMG Line estate (premium plus pack, multi beam leds, Widescreen, Comand, sir suspension, 20" wheels, Nappa etc). And you should get 15% discount on that
I Love Mercedes and going to Love it, but they have Made the e-Class look like c & s-class. Best car in the world!
here in the UK there is a car advert on TV (cant remember the brand) with the slogan 'go fun yourself'. Mercedes should have a TV advert slogan 'go drive yourself'

Kinda got lost in "W-something" and "W-somethingelse", but this is the most comprehensive test of this car I have seen to date!

W212 and W213 is Mercedes speak for the year and model, being 2016 and 2017, respectively.
I like the w211, a mix of old and new. The bad thing is rust :(
Well, there is nothing "true" (11:11) left these days anymore. Interesting improvements to test, if U have spare 70K, as You say. Its a Gadget times and a gadget Mercedes we got.
Not my favorite design, but I believe the car itself is very good. (Not mentioning the wobbling console You showed us). =)
Most waited cars for me are the Skoda Kodiaq and Touareg of course. They are always the last in line, but... let's avoid hatred. ;-)

My God that interior looks poorly finished and that cheap wood , nothing to do with W212 whick bears some resemblance to the sturdy W124.
Id rather buy a well maintained W124 over this any day. Interestingly the prices for those have went up quite a bit recently. However you can still get some relatively good ones for around 4000€ with around 200,000 kilometers on the clock. Anyways nice review as always, keep up the good work!
The E Class has had a squeaky dashboard for a while now. I noticed it in every single E class taxi I took in Berlin, and there was a lot of them. They started suffering from the Audi disease, their entire lineup looks exactly the same. Also, the double screens on the dashboard are the worst design choice EVER for a car of this stature. I hate them more than I hate Hitler.
Mercedes lost its mojo. I'm expecting the new generation BMW 5 series to wipe the floor with the E Class.
Kinda' happy that even an E class Merc have some hard plastics! Not to much but just enough

Is that really a cheap piano plastic? are you sure about that?
Judging by the scratch marks the black bit around the infotainment controls is plastic. The upper dashboard trim is wood-ish. For safety reasons carmakers can't just put a plank of wood in a car, so it's just veneer, but that's as close to wood in a car, as it gets these days.

Prawdopodobnie tak, bo to tylko kwestia uregulowan prawnych w danym kraju. Jesli kupisz wyposazonego we wszystkie wymagane systemy, to pewnie jest to tylko kwestia jednego checkboxa. Tak jest czesto z samochodami grup VW jest, podlaczasz vag-coma i wlaczasz LC, czy tam skladanie lusterek itp. Oczywiscie tracisz gwarancje, bo jest tam licznik :- )
What did you think of the Command system and how easy or hard it is to navigate the controls?
I'm more used to BMW's iDrive. I guess after a couple of weeks it wouldn't make much difference.

Armaan Ahmed Car Play does not replace the entire infotainment system. It's just an interface, which lets you take advantage of your smartphone.
But don't you think all of these iDrive type scrollers are inferior to a touchscreen? And the idea that we want to scratch out letters on that little pad near the arm rest is crazy. Seems MB is going in the wrong direction with their ease-of-use.
Very fair and detailed review, highly impressed with your work brother. This car is way over priced and with all that cheap plastic there's just no point. With 65-70k i would get a top range xf jaguar with better quality materials two tone leather seat combination and a better infotainment system two screens separated and the center screen is actually a great touchscreen like your high end smartphone. This car is damn too expensive for what it offers, it seems Benz nowadays are just living on previous brand name.

dj ochi have u looked at the new xf infotainment system? The old one on the jag was average and got criticised heavily. CHECK OUT the new one, u'll see for yourself
jaymum23 xf has cheap plastic on the console? Where? Do u mean the buttons? All cars apart from Rolls Royce use plastic buttons on the dash, doors center console. But the entire center console of the f type doesn't have plastic unless u r talking about the material used in making the cup holders which usually have metal outlines but made of plastic. I agree that the benz has a better interior design but don't blow it overboard by saying things that aren't true about the materials used. It's all leather, chrome, aluminium and wood finish in the xf interior with carbon fibre options etc. Excluding all buttons for controls which r all plastic
I am sorry all e classes, all s classes have plastic buttons in the car. I have checked out even the s 600 maybach throughly and there's plastic in the car. U r confusing all the buttons being made of aluminium with the surrounding coated with aluminium. Check out what holds the TV monitors of the s class maybach at the rear, it is housed by plastic but coloured to match the Interior. Go look at what comes in a rolls Royce instead. In terms of using the highest quality materials not a single car manufacturer is on the level of a rolls Royce. Then as regards the xf, i guess u know the car comes with a lot of options and is still cheaper than its comparable rival from benz option for option and model for model. The xf has plastic materials especially the buttons all round the car I have already admitted that and this e class has plastic buttons as well, u r only looking at the buttons on the center dash and thinking that is enough justification to say the e class has no plastic buttons. The Benz is a great car but it no longer has the wow factor it used to over its rivals that's just fact. Mercedes-Benz no longer bring out radical incredible designs, some of their cars now share border line designs with Korean cars. Look at the Jaguar and what they keep dishing out, the xf is just a far more beautiful car to behold exterior than the e class. Look at the xe same against the c class. Look at the xjl same against the s class. There's the f pace that is just jaw dropping gorgeous compare that with the ml or gle or gl from Benz. Mercedes-Benz has just lost that wow factor they used to have, I am a merc fan. Grew up with the s class, my family owned one and drove several other Mercs in my 20's etc. But since the last two generations of s class, c class and e class Benz no longer wow most people. They are no longer head turners, yes some of their sports cars still have that effect but the major sellers no longer.
And a Jaguar has no plastic buttons? Pretty much all modern luxury cars have plastic buttons which are often silver-colored to imitate chrome or metal.
The only luxury cars I can think off which use real metal/chrome in their interiors are Bentley and Rolls Royce.
And calling the new Mercedes' interiors "cheap".... really? This whole "This interior is better than that interior!" crap is just that: BULLSHIT. It's a highly subjective and personal issue. Funny how these new Mercedes' interiors are getting a lot of praise from reviewers for their quality and feel...
I have just one problem with all these new Mercs. They all look the same C=E=S from the outside. From the inside, E class is mix between C and S class, and not bad overall, but for 70 k Euro, no thanks..
I'm afraid that's the case with most cars. A4/6/8, 3/5/7-Series, etc.

W124 quality has to be a thing of the past now that Benz is outselling Ford, GM etc in most markets from the U.S.,Europe to Australasia. I'm not too worried as a future auto drive system is fabulously enticing tech esp as 90% of driving for us is boring and overpoliced. I'm a bit too old maybe to really take to the screens. Aka were I a pilot I'd still like analogue gauges (um Airbus v Boeing!). Great car anyway!
