I’m 63, secretly planning to retire in 4 months and literally counting the days. The company is struggling, my direct manager is failing and scapegoating me, and I think I may get fired soon for the first time in my life. I have applied to 200 jobs for which I’m qualified in the past few months and haven’t had a single interview. I’ve thought of telling them I have decided to retire or shift to part time in 4 months, but I don’t trust them not to fire me. They tend to take things personally.
@@reebeeable I understand. Two big hang-ups for me. 1. I have a financial goal this year of meeting this year’s projected salary to improve my social security calculation on future monthly retirement benefits. I am replacing one of my $0 years (from being home with babies) with this year’s salary. I have to get it as high as possible by the end of the year. 2. I am 63 and have been working since I was 12, and have never been fired. I would be very upset to start my retirement by getting fired from the last full time job of my career, especially as a way for my manager to avoid responsibility for his errors by throwing me under the bus. That that is an awful thing to do, it’s not illegal. I shouldn’t care, but I do.
