Sculpting is a hard skill to learn. This way not only need talent but also include patience. Man, hope one day i can do this quality portrait like you.
Great tutorial! I also working on likeness sculpt for learn character sculpt and I found that eyebrows, hair and make-up also make huge impact of the likeness.Especially if you make female actor and it’s difficult to make it right
I really like these 3d sculpting and was looking for a tutorial for like a year and finally found it. Thanks for providing it for free. Really great content !! 🔥🔥
Going into the background of a camera to learn the perspective... thats so damn! Could never figure out why i struggled lining stuff up like this in Zbrush unlike in Cinema 4D this never crossed my mind.
Ahhh...you have a very thorough approach to this. Subscribed! The funniest line is explaining your partner why you’re looking at ewan’s photos 🤣! Looking forward to the next videos.
I saw your work on artstation and really liked it. This video is very informative and gives you a good understanding of the sculpting process. Bravo...
I have a real hard time to find a way to work around field of view especially how to handle to reference with different valors like one photo on front and one photo on profile. Did you have any suggestion about some tutorial or video that treat specificaly this kind of aspect of 3d sculpting?
Thanks for this video it has been really helpful! I picked up the same base meshes and was wondering if you could explain how to separate the eyes into another sub-tool. When I went to start adapting it to the likeness the eyeballs got really messed up. Thanks!
Hello I'm Paolo. That's an amazing tutorial, but is there any chance to get the same tutorial at a reasonable speed? Because it's just impossible to grasp what you are doing.
Can you save a specific angle to jump back on the side view to make the side of the face? and when you worked on the front the image reference was always turned on and when you worked on the side you made the edit the image dissaperead you stop sculpting the image returned how did you do that you pressed on a key or it was automatic if it was how did you kept the reference locked when you sculpted the front? ** I'm learning zbrush from videos but have not bought it yet but I wanna get familiar with UI before buying.
As it has been said before, this is pure gold. As a newbie in digital sculpting and Star Wars fan since 90s, I'm looking forward for the other parts. Just a question: will you show the jedi robe making? The fabric pattern is sick! Amazing work, going to buy the bald and decimated guy!
I know this video is old. I am hoping you'll still see this comment to reply. I have 2 questions. 1) The program you use for the photos, I am having a hard time hearing what you're saying exactly, I heard Pura or Peora, but could not find it by a simple google search, was hoping it was in the description, but it is not. The second question is concerning the use of base mesh. I am trying to do this exact likeness for DAZ Genesis 8.1 Male. So I need to keep the geometry otherwise it messes up more things down the road (I think one of the commenters alluded to it). The Iray Renderer will allow you to do Subdivision level 6, so I assume, using ZBrush if I just have Dynamic Subdiv on, and set to smooth subdiv 6, I can do all of this without changing the base geometry. DAZ works off of Morphs, so I'd be re-importing the sculpted mesh into DAZ and then it would translate the delta's into a Morph wheel. If you're familiar with this process, is there a chance you could do a video on it?
@@Adamocg Heh, I'm sure it doesn't help that I spent my youth inside of cars that would make your ears and nose bleed if they were turned up all the way, and my weekends throwing raves. LOL. But thanks for clarifying the program name. And yes, I am using their base mesh (Genesis 8.1 Male Character) to sculpt on. It has a starting Polycount fo 259,136 KP (Full Body + Eyes + Teeth), which is making it kind of hard to do the initial blocking out. I wonder if I there's someway to reduce the resolution first and then bring it back up without affecting the base geometry...
That fold with the eyebrow and the eyelid has been a bit tricky for me I don't really know how to not make it look like the brows folding over the eyelid
Question, does the perspective and focal length distort the model at all when it comes to modeling for a video game or 3d printing? For example I recently did a self portrait that I sculpted with no perspective and when I exported it as a fbx and view it outside of zbrush it looks distorted. If you where doing this likeness for a toy or a game would you use different reference or a different perspective?
The perspective camera in other 3D packages will vary, I think Maya is about 35mm by default but you can always change them. No, I would sculpt exactly the same for a toy or game, there's always going to be some slight mismatches in distortion happening when using reference, unless you have lens attributes for your images or you use scan data. Over time you get better at assuming certain focal lengths and your sculpt gets closer to a 1-1 match.
Hello there! Hehe. Nice making of series dude! Really like them. One question: you used morph target before subdividing, so you won't lose the initial forms, does this trick affect displacement/normal maps down the road? I saw people write on forums of zbrush that 'subdivide without losing volume / morph target trick" affects displacements in bad way, are they wrong?
Thanks for your comment R.A. I'm not really sure in which situation this could effect disp maps unless the uvs where done on the basemesh before sculpting but it wouldnt make sense to work like that anyway
This is insane! How long have you been sculpting likenesses before this project? I'm only now getting into head anatomy and wonder when will the time come for me to even attempt such thing :D
Thanks for your comment man, I've been sculpting off and on for the last 10 years but only really took it seriously last year. Everybody has to start somewhere so dont be afraid of jumping in. I think the best way to progress as an artist is to get stuck into a personal project. Good luck!
The Thumbnail Photo is the finished Model! You should remind people of that because I just assumed you were a hack who used a photo of Ewan for his thumbnail.
Hi Ricarldo, I have to reserve my time for advice for Patreons only, sorry. I get a lot of messages for advice but unfortunately, I just don't have the time to help everyone. Hope you understand. Cheers
Hello bro, I have a somewhat small youtube channel and I do tuturials let me make your video but in Spanish ?. It's non-profit and to publicize this, I don't know how to do it I'll practically do it with your tutorial and it's to practice . Edit :I won't take your video I'll do it from 0

excuse me what is your persepcetive?
How can install Autodesk Maya full without license
how to set camera angle to the model for reference

Where do you get the high quality reference photos?
