Boat captain speaks out after witnessing parasailing crash

- A boat captain who rushed in to help after three people were involved in a parasailing crash in the Florida Keys is speaking out about the incident.
This is the guy who saved them and they running pictures of him as the captain and his take on the accident…
Super careless anyone who doesn’t watch the video instantly think his face is the one who was reason for the accident
Wish everyone would watch that! They keep responding to my comment and it sucks. I watched the whole video like you did. I am so experienced on the water and lived in both Florida and Washington state where we boat off every week. We have towed a vessel in distress in rough waters! Others just drove on by with their fancy yachts....Human life should alway be put first and this man was totally negligent. If it werent for the other two boats that zoomed up and saved the boys...all three would have died! It is super careless for those to go after us that watched the entire video.
Guy should get a friend lawyer or someone who wants to represent him for free and sue the news for slander/ defamation. I thought the same thing. Not cool putting his face on the thumbnail.
I mean if you read the title it says witness but ok??
@@tiasky3438 they changed it haha it didn’t
@@JoeWayne84 ahh ok my fault. I thought people were maybe just reading the caption on the picture. Hopefully your comment pushed them to fix it!
There is no such thing as pegging a parasail. The boat owner could have let his craft sink going backwards or at the most fill with water. In a split second he chose his boat over the lives of humans.. The glide path ......if the bridge did not stop them was the hi tension wires supplying power to the Keys. Cutting the line was not a option..
Exactly! I don't think the operator had any safety training!
Ive done parasailing as a business...guy never should have cut line. I had my fiancee up in mine, all of a sudden a sustained 30 knot gust of wind, plus was upswept by a bluff behind her had her at 80 degree angle on 300 ft of rope..tight, for minutes.....First I pulled forward slightly watching rope , then I put boat in hard reverse toward beach, she came down, brother grabbed her feet...boat took on water and ruined a ss prop ...BUT no injury...live and learn..
@@MaxPleaseBeAGoodBoi or balls
@@dot.5070 he is going to lose a whole lot more than his boat now .
@@shari9721 that’s a great point
Guy who cut the line should be charged
HE MUST BE CHARGED!!
Right that's what I'm saying
That captain should be charged for involuntary manslaughter. Never cut a line with customers parasailing. That boat is their life line.
It is Voluntary
Parasailing anywhere near a bridge seems dangerous.
They were a mile away from the bridge
@@sarahann530 But apparently, given conditions, that wasn't enough.
@@sarahann530 That mile closed in real fast,...didn't it
@@annnonomys3132 Apparently it did . How many miles offshore do you suggest they should go ?
@@sarahann530 should be around 2 miles from shore and especially at least 2 miles away from a freaking bridge.
IMO, Parasailing should NOT be a tourist ride. Not without at least several hours of basic training. I fly my own Powered Paraglider & know how dangerous it can get in a split second. I seriously doubt these poor people knew how to release their harness in case of an emergency. Nobody should have gone up in those windy conditions. Totally the tow boat captains responsibility.
Yep, my 1d of hang-gliding -> 2h of classroom & 4h of jumps from tethered line. Even then 1 of 10 students injured by improper landing technique.
Initially it was reported a storm blew in and the winds picked up during the ride, so I don’t think he intentionally put them up in bad conditions. But still, it’s on the capt to know the forecast for the day.
That should be a charge for him. That woman would have been alive today if he didn't cut that lime. I hope he pays for this
Should have cut a lemon instead!
u sound dumb for that answer they all would have died if he didn't come over n cut the line
What a horrific way to die, I can't believe this Captain just cut the rope and left them to their own fate. When he took them out and bad weather. That was his responsibility.
That’s what their supposed to do when the chute turns into a sail. It’s unfortunate but that’s protocol
@@drewferd2720 He was negligent 100% as you are supposed to know your weather, have a contingency plan for all emergencies...He did nothing to try to save them and other boaters had to rescue the boys! We are Coast Guard trained Pacific Northwest boaters in deadly cold waters for 25 years...human life comes before all! We have towed vessels in distress and would never have done this. A boat that can be dragged by a parasail should not be pulling one. I saw a video of his small boat! They paid for his services....
@@drewferd2720 Protocol?
Ha! Ha! Yea, ok.
How about just bringing the boat about and going with the wind, then winching them down?
@@JimsEquipmentShed if you could pull that off sir my hats off to you. You obviously don’t know how fast those winds were blowing that day, they shouldn’t have been out there in the first place for this exact reason. You don’t think the captain tried correcting the boat haha cmon now! His last option was to cut the line which unfortunately he had to.
@UCzUjQwwAcSYNWlwyFf3Lj3w you agreed with everything I’ve said then proceeded to call me a troll 😅 highly intelligent
The law suit will be huge. How does anyone think that cutting the line is a good idea with tourists like this?
They explained it in the video...
So it would be OK to cut the line if they were locals ??
@@sarahann530 No, it had nothing to do with that. The captain chose the boat over his customers when he cut the line and let fate determine whether that woman and the kids lived or died. Sadly, they died. He shouldn't have cut that line.
@@monicascott2354 they explained it pretty poorly in the video. As an actual parasail captain what the proper procedure is. You NEVER cut the client loose.
Really didnt need to send out affiliates from your sister station to interview the neighbors on the same day the woman died in front of her house
Yeah fucken right they did!!!! Its news they need the views the bottom feeding scum that they are....
Someone please give this guy a cough drop

he need some milk
Someone give that reporter a glass of water
And some zinc and pumpkin seeds
Can’t we find a narrator that isn’t sick to do this?
I couldn’t help but laugh at your comment😆
I noticed he does have a horse voice.
I was thinking he needs a cough drop or that stuff you spray in the back of your throat hope he starts feeling better oh and he could gargle warm salt water….

This poor man will never get those images out of his head. 💔 Something like this affects so many people. It’s a ripple effect.
try sangria... ripple is too sweet
Thank you for saving the kids. RIP MOM
So tragic! This POS chose his boat over their lives! He needs to be charged with something.
Its not this guy
@@Daniel-zv4to We know it's not "this guy". This boat captain is the one who helped afterwards. They are just saying that the boat captain that brought this woman and the 2 kids parasailing should not have cut the line...he chose his boat over their lives. He definitely needs to be charged with something.
Safer to lose a boat than a life...
Boat owner should have had more experience... he didn’t even attempt to tow the chute parallel with the wind.
He could have saved his boat and the lady.
Perpendicular. Parallel to the wind is still in the face of the wind... perpendicular to the wind with downwind driftage is what i would've tried. I hope this Captain is charged with multiple counts of reckless endangerment and homicide. Idiots like this is why cool toys like the flying Manta Ray, Honda ATC, basic chemistry sets, and Lawn Darts are illegal.
I've watched, in Destin Florida, as parasails break away from the boats. It happens all the time. There's usually so many towing people out there, it looks like crazy town. I've never gone parasailing, because of all the people I've seen floating helplessly out to sea or straight into a condo, traffic or power.
I hope you’re exaggerating. That’s crazy!!
Worried it would pull his boat out to sea? Couldn't that have been just fine while he reeled them back in to the deck and folded the chute? Was he out there with no way to signal for distress? Was he even part of the rescue or did he just pack it in for the day? No way this murderer doesn't catch a charge.
Boats being pulled backwards, especially low riding boats used for lake tubing or parasailing can take on water and sink when water washes over the stern.
If they signaled for distress it would be 10-20 minutes minimum before the coast guard arrived, and theres not much they could do in the situation anyways. It's a sad event which could have been worse if the captain had not acted
This is tragic, I’m never going parasailing. RIP to this young mother and dear lord embrace these two young boys who will have to go a lifetime without her love and presence. I hope her soul finds peace in all this 🙏
The only time I could think of cutting the line would be beneficial would be if the boat was sinking in water deeper than the length of the sail line. Passenger safety is number one above all else, even above the captains!
I feel so bad for this family. I hope they are able to find peace soon. I’ll send a prayer for you 🙏🏽
I imagine the boat Capt was too busy to check the forecast? They have no control if it gets too windy.
u dont put ppl in the air with bad weather and a small boat
I think I see a lawsuit in the future
Is there someone with a worse voice available to report on this?
We COULD get you a Brit where you need subtitles like "Trainspotting".
Gilbert Gottfried
they hired the chronic smoker with COPD
From what I understand they had no business being out there. That's on the captain.
Prosecute that negligent Captain. His actions led to that death.
That whole crew that let that family go should be prosecuted to the most extent!
Condolences to the family, praying for the speedy recovery for the children. This is Hurricane season, you have to be very careful with the winds, the can pick up suddenly.
Was it a hurricane?
@@sarahann530 a tornado but made out of water and big enough to drown most places it hits as they tend to go on land.
@@youtubestudiosucks978 Look up the difference between a hurricane and a tornado and a water spout . Then come back to us !
What are you talking about? The Atlantic hurricane season started today. And it last half the year.... You don't have to just sit home during hurricane season.
Where the hell are you from?! 😅😅
I'm telling you all now no one would catch me doing stuff like this. I know someone in my apt complex who does this and she also sky dives. I'm kind of wondering why allow amateurs to do these things? These seem like stunts done by professional sky divers and not a 33 yr old woman and two young kids. What we are seeing here is an urge to make money. I would bet this parasailing and diving is not cheap. This guy possibly tried to save his boat first. I dont know about this type of thing. But I know I wouldn't do it.
Exactly. It was a choice between his boat or the customers' lives. He chose his boat.
Why would a parent take a 7yr old up anyways?
See just another reason you wont catch me skydiving or parasailing
Stay on the porch, little dog.
Got it, you are a no-life nerd
No reason to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.
That captain needs to be held accountablr
The Captain should be charged for murdering the woman and intent to kill 2 kids.
Outstanding Captain.
You are a great reporter. Your company should give you time off for your voice (paid). Will not repeat other obvious comments on the tragedy
Im glad this fishing boat customers were observant and the fushing captain took action. 🙏🏿
He cut the line now put him in jail
The captain could have shut his engine down, to counter strong gust of winds. You don't cut a static line that is providing flight and control for human flight!
Why didn't the Captain hold on to the parasail and put down anchor instead?
Is that bridge actually 7 miles long?!
Hence the name
Between marathon and Mainland
They are LightHouse parasail located in marathon, Florida
WTF did she go parasailing in that weather ?
WTF? you are very thick! weather was not an issue at the time, it changes very quick in a matter of minutes numnuts!
It was the responsibility of the capt. to know weather before hand!, understand now YT child?
What a Truly Devastating vacation & such a heartbreaking Tragedy!💔😢 Condolences, Prayers & Healing light to the surviving boy, hoping his cousin makes a full recovery, there Families & everyone involved. May his Beautiful Mom RIP🙏❤️🌹❤️😢
This was not the captain!! Put the actual murderer’s face for everyone to see, not an innocent person!
Couldn't management give this reporter the day off? The guy's got Strep Throat barely making it through this broadcast.
Captain should be going to jail now should have stopped the boat and bring them down
Sad to hear.
RIP ❤️🕊
Cnn will find a way to blame it on Trump.
The sail could have pulled the boat so cut the line... WTF? How does this make sense?
If this story is correct, he sacrificed his passengers to save his boat.
prayers...
We always parasail by bridges-a catch all..
Captain made a bad decision
You need an attorney dude
That's not the parasail boat captain.
Oh my how 😢 SAD
What a stupid thing to do.
Lock him up.
he better get charges
Though I understand the pilot or boat captain was concerned with the wind & how it may capsize or pull the boat…
But that cable was the only thing offering any resistance or limited control over the people & the attached parasail 🪂.
Once he cut the line-
What did he think would happen to the mother & children,
I can only assume he believed mistakenly they would drop safely into the sea.
Sadly that was not the case.
Poor judgement on the captain part in my opinion.
Is there an age requirement for this activity? A 7 year old and 10 year old parasailing? This could’ve been even worse. How can a person cut the line with 3 lives and 2 children on their conscience? Very sad.
This is why you should stay on land for many reasons.
That's dumb. Your odds of death are way more likely in the car in the way over. Even if the parasail kills you..
Most people's deaths/accidents happen in or real near home.
Let's not forget, bicycles, too...way less safe than cars.
How can anybody choose a material object over a kid's life
The news hired a chronic smoker with COPD??
WTF is wrong with this reporter's voice???? He should go get some help. They can't find anybody with a regular voice to report this sad story?
I remember Panama City back in the Florida in the early early '90s the belts just failed and dropped everybody
I hope the narrator's voice gets better
Nice news person’s voice
Isn't that negligent homicide?
Parasailing needs to be banned. It's a sport not a carnival ride.
This is the result of a bad decision made in a split second.. lack of prep by mother. Or maybe no safety rules or incase of emergency shall arise.. I dont think paragliding has a 2 hr crash course on emergency situations. But if she went skydiving in sure she be listening in class.. again thise winds and a cut line that parachute isn't going down anytime soon.. no way for her to control it no toggles. And one can only assume if you in the wind and you catch the gust you will be in the gust for quit sometime.. sad for all..
Sounds like this guy should be in bed resting up and drinking soup.. or at least let the guy clear his throat before starting to record..
I drove parasail at Hamilton Island Australia,,we had a quick release on boat end,,the boat can be dragged backwards or sideways in wind gusts and squalls ,,which will sink it,,and now you cant help anybody and need help your selves,,the idea is to release the chute which now sinks down to surface and boat can chase after it,,we did this sometimes,,this one was just unlucky,,over two years we had our accidents and managed to retrieve customers and chutes,,most times,,
Why does the reporter sound like he has strep throat?
Shia Labeouf does parasailing now lol

My opinion only, the woman n children should been more important than his own life.he suppose be trained in boating, rescue, weather etc. I say manslaughter 100%

I wonder how much of their ethnicity played a part in the captain choosing to toss away their lives for his boat? I know some people are gonna think it had nothing to do with it, but I have a feeling he would have made more of an effort to make sure a white mother and two white children made it to safety.
I wonder if he refunded her credit card hehe
sick to my stomach. I feel like some kind of malicious intent was at play.
