      The star mode is new to Z line and so far only available on Z9. Great function for low light situations.

    Thanks for your review. I'm an armature photographer, but I'm still going to add my two cents. I've had a camera in hands for 4 years and I immediately programmed the fn1 button (D850,D500) for playback. On the Z9, however, I use that for something else and use the RED RECORD button that is raised next to the shutter button to play back images. Advantage? It's right next to the shutter button and serves no purpose in photo shooting mode. This way I can preserve Fn1 for a different function. As for star light mode, I would have not thought of using that often in portraits (albeit I normally shoot sports/wildlife/action). I do have that menu item in my "My Menu" which is programmed to pull up quickly with the Key button (Fn4) on the left side of the body. If you use this a lot, I can't argue with placing it on a easily accessible function button. Your third setting again makes sense for what you are doing. I also can see why you would use the ring on Z lenses for your ISO. I do not own a Z lens yet, and auto-ISO in rapidly changing light outdoors for wildlife is something in manual mode I'm in frequently. I do have AF-On for Wide Area - Large and the release button for 3D (wildlife), but for other reasons. I'm glad you left this one for last (and wish you had demonstrated it with a crowd of people because this leads to several questions). If you are using WAL with a number of people (and eye detect) how do you get it to stop focusing on the closest person to you instead of the individual you want? Second, my understanding from folks that shoot landscapes is that they wished Nikon's mirrorless cameras would allow you to preview your DOF above apertures of f/5.6. This would certainly come in handy if you have a group of people and wanted them all within your DOF (i.e. they are in a curved circle or two lines). Apparently it is possible to see your DOF over f/5.6 in video mode, but not photo shooting mode. Any thoughts there? All in all, when I set up my portrait bank, I'll consider this arrangement and usage. Thank you for the time and effort.

      Thanks for sharing about your set up dance2jam. I learned something.
      As far as WAL and eye AF. I haven’t had many cases where this was an issue with which person to focus. However, if this was a need I would change that Wife Area Small to be more specific and point at person that I need to be focusing on.

    • @TouchLifeStudio
      @TouchLifeStudio  2 роки тому +3

      As far as the DOF. The best way and probably the easier way to see how much is in focus is to use focus peaking (yellow, red, or blue). Visually it will stand out. It works great for portraits but may not be the most appropriate for wild life and fast moving objects. Although in that case DOF is probably deep enough to get a subject in focus anyway.
      Plus when you add experience and familiarization with lenses and how much depth of field with various focal lengths, you would get better results.
      Hope this helps.

    Excellent video, thank you so much for all the information! Some food for thought definitely. I personally got a ZF recently and I am still customising it. I have set it up for now so that my Fn button switches to 3D, but that only lasts as long as I keep the button pressed. Is this intended?

    • @TouchLifeStudio
      @TouchLifeStudio  7 місяців тому

      I believe so. The same thing when 3D is set to shutter button, you need to 1/2 press to keep it engaged.

    Great tips. Thanks for sharing. As a portrait photographer, how often do you use the vertical grip or shoot vertically?

    • @TouchLifeStudio
      @TouchLifeStudio  2 роки тому

      The Z9 is my first camera with a built-in vertical grip. Given that this is part of the camera I use it more and more. BTW, the vertical grip on Z9 is more comfortable than the horizontal grip. More of a reason to use the vertical grip.

    A small question: When you have a group of 6 or 7 people to take a picture? For you will be the right setting please ?

    • @TouchLifeStudio
      @TouchLifeStudio  Рік тому

      Assuming the group of people not in line but staggered, set your aperture to around 4.5 and shutter speed to at least 125 of a sec. May need to adjust speed light settings based on the available light. Hope this helps.

    How do i prevent the camera from switching of live-view mode whilst having a remote trigger on the hotshoe in a off camera studio environment?

  • @romanhar4151
    @romanhar4151 2 роки тому +1

    The wrong location of the play button (not reachable with the right hand, the left is in the lens) on the Z6 is really improved on the Z9.
    You make the point: having it on the Fn it is always on the same location.
    Question: on portrait orientation is the Fn3 becoming the function of the Fn1?

    • @TouchLifeStudio
      @TouchLifeStudio  2 роки тому +1

      When the camera is in portrait orientation, the Fn buttons remain the same as set. Fn buttons don’t change.
