I was impressed with the quality when I received this product. Yes, on warm days your rain jacket will be as wet on the inside as the outside, unless you wear a long sleeve shirt or jacket underneath. I wear the suit over a jacket and sometimes chaps. I've ridden in hours of pretty good rain and only the tips of my pant legs and top of my shirt collar get a little damp.
Hello DrFritz, I have switched to the replacement for this as of last season, and it is a bit more breathable. Not perfect, but close enough as I always have another layer under it. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank
I commute 112 miles, one way, 4 times a week, in south Louisiana. I've been using these Nelson Riggs and they don't keep me completely dry. My legs below the knees get wet, but not soaked. My left shoulder gets wet, which means that the stitching on that shoulder leaks. If you are looking for something that keeps you completely dry, you're going to have to look elsewhere.
Hello Esmith, that's not great to hear! Mine is still working. I last used it in Florida. Have you filed a warranty claim? - Frank www.nelsonrigg.com/claim-form#:~:text=Nelson-Rigg%20products%20are%20warranted%20to%20be%20free%20from,with%20a%20copy%20of%20the%20original%20sales%20receipt.
Great review! Glad I came across this video. I’ve been researching and couldn’t decide on which rain gear to buy but watching this video helped me. Thanks for the great vid!
Thanks for the review. I’ve been looking at rain gear but it’s always so hard to decide. Seems like every brand on the popular sites has either 5 star reviews or 1 star. Either people get completely soaked or it’s a nice dry ride. This particular brand and suit seems to be the better of them all.
Hello Apartment, rain gear is hard to judge beyond "Am I still dry." None of it is particularly comfortable or stylish! Thanks for stopping by! - Frank
As far as I'm concerned Nelson Rigg is the best rain gear money can by, I just bought the Solo Storm and I couldn't be more impressed with a product, buy one if you want the best.
Hello, Sam - I agree; I have the new jacket (though not the pants) and it breathes really well while continuing to be waterproof. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. - Frank
I just ordered one. I like the idea that I won’t have to take my boots off in the rain to get my pants on, like I have been doing with the hardware store rain suits.
@@OneOldManRiding my rain suit never made it. After a month Amazon gave me a refund. Maybe I’ll try again, rainy season starting here in the Philippines.
So I bought one of these Nelson Rigg rain suites on my way home from Alaska. The rain gear didn't make it home. So it didn't last a month. The pants Ripped out at the bottom, the pockets ripped out, the collar ripped. basically this is too light weight for any continued use. Also it has no liner, so it's just sticky plastic with no Vents. It's cheap, you get what you pay for and it's a waste of my money.
Hello Clint, that is not acceptable at all! Did you reach out to Nelson Rigg? They have a warranty on their products that usually good. I broke a strap on a tank bag, and while it took longer than I liked, they replaced it. Thanks for stopping by! - Frank
Hello Glen, thank you. It's really been a fantastic piece of gear. My I would have spent several miserable days riding to campsites if Beards Bikes and Camping had not reviewed this first!
Good Review! I use Nelson Riggs panniers and a roll top bag for touring/camping. Been very happy and dry with them. I have been considering getting their rain gear since it comes in hi-Vis colors. I currently use the rain gear that came with my Olympia Jacket and pants, works good except it is black 🙄. I also enjoyed seeing familiar roads, The gray house on the right at 4:58 for many years belonged to a good friend of mine before he wandered off to New Mexico.
Hello Rick. Great to hear from a local. I have two Nelson Rigg tank bags as well, one of which is waterproof. So far my experience with their products has been nothing but positive. - Frank
Actually Olympia's rain gear works great, especially the Horizon jacket. I'm not sold on the pants, even at 6'2", they're way too long, so they need to be hemmed by a tailor, and there is no adjustment to tighten up the leg closures after putting on the rain pants.
Hello Airda, I loaned the jacket out to a buddy, he lost it camping... I replaced it with the newer jacket from Nelson Rogg. It breathes better and I like it a bit more. The pants are still working well, no reason to replace those for me. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank New Jacket: amzn.to/3LUM481
I like this kind of review use the actual gear in the rain | edit part| I rather be a yellow banana getting to B than squished black crow because I wanted to look cool :D
Hello Zino, Yellow may not be many folks favorite color, but it sure does help someone be seen, and oh boy we can use all the help we can get in the rain! Thank you for stopping by! - Frank
@@OneOldManRiding You're welcome, well in my opinion since usually dark in the rain you should be visible so people see you ride, motorcyclists, scooters regular cyclists they are easier missed and so we should do our best to avoid that and wearing that ugly reflective neon Yellow will help :D
I've got the Nelson Rigg rain gear, but the problem with the pants is the same with other mfrs., even HD, which is the butt / crotch soaking from the water that collects on the seat while riding. The jacket does a pretty good job at keeping the rain off me, but it is more "damp delay" versus waterproof.
I think that one of the best, if not the best, probably the best is the Scott Ergo Pro rain gear. So much so that in the UK there is a motorcycle store that stop carrying all other rain gear because they don't want to less subpart rain gear. The jacket is stretchable and breathable. Which helps with the getting too hot issue. It doesn't stop it, but it helps. This guys made a good video about it: ua-cam.com/video/VfLzyLuzHqA/v-deo.html
Too bad not sold in the US. Have to find online and have it shipped to US. Been wanting one of the Scott rain jackets. I used a military Goretex parka which is breathable and has huge armpit vents that I leave open so I don't get clammy. Better than stewing in your own sweat from non-breathable rain gear.
Nice review of our Stormrider suit. We are happy it is working well for you.
Thank you, it's treated me well. It packs down well in a stuff sack, so I can have it with me for emergencies! - Frank

Good Review.... try it with Frog-Toggs pants. Perfect combo. I found the NR Pants very cumbersome to get into.

I use one of these suits here in Hawaii. My problem is I usually end up sweating so much, I might as well not be wearing it at all.

Is this still your favorite rain gear? And what do you wear over your hands if anything? I’m thinking about trying an over glove...

good one
They have a newer one I bought and never reviewed, slightly better in the breathability. And in KTM orange! - Frank
