Mom of teen boys here! And high school football players. Daily restocking healthy snacks, making wrapped sandwiches for the fridge, endless laundry and constant grocery shopping. The struggle is real!

I have two boys, 7 and 4 who are soooo picky, and I remind myself all the time that one day, they will constantly clear out the fridge and pantry. Oh, and they will one day sleep until we yank them out of bed.😆
I think the pavers look great. Neutral is always a good option. Do a flat covered pergola and add string lights, furniture and a rug. Perfect!

Your pavers look beautiful. We added to our roof line to cover our patio. We did it 20 years ago and never regretted it.
Go to the big box store and pick up a vanity with the top and swap out the pedestal sink for it. End of storage problem. Easy fix. You have the room for something better than what is there.
We added a roof similar to the second picture you showed. And then installed screens on each side that go up and down with a remote. That way you could sit out there with no bugs when you want to.

I think the way you are using the upstairs room is perfect!
I think the second or the third would go the best with the style of your house.
It also depends on the rain, wind and sun direction. That will have a huge impact on the style and shape of a pergola/alfresco area.
Thoughts, with angles of roof, and dormer looking window nearby, your first photo looked best ( pagoda looking) yes your " flair" will be furniture/ lights/ rugs ect ..and that is practical because you can change it easily, seasonal etc. I love the wide steps! Beautiful!

Price wise just swap out the upstairs bathroom sink for an antique look wood vanity, saves in the long run and more storage
A pergola outside would be nice! Some look like an extension of the house, but they’re actually not and would avoid any more construction for you!
I think a great feature would be a pergola! It will add character and shade! Also I it would be less expensive than adding to the roof.
What I find is a pergola doesn’t create enough shade.

The pavers look fine and will be great with your mother’s touches in decor. I like a roof and screen and keep any rafters simple for later cleaning. Main thing is it’s a nice add on hang out for kids and as you have said before possible kids grown up bringing home their own kids so screened in with a door would be great.
Main thing is if it’s a teen space will be comfort and hang out worthy so maybe a ceiling fan, tv and way to listen to music and some cool lighting options.
Is there any way to install a screened in area by the lake since you said you weee out there a ton with the littles and getting eaten alive?
Still watching but love the patio and it’s really good sized. I pictured just like a small one like their upstairs balcony.
A firepit out there would be nice also with some chairs they can drag out and set up as needed.

Another idea would be adding a utility sink out there somehow for painting and such for Eleanor. Maybe a mini kitchen with a mini fridge, something bug safe for snacks and a sink. I mean at some point it is a mini replication of the main patio but all depends on how personalized and accommodating you want to provide. Consider also having to clean another fridge sink and etc lol. Maybe not.😂
Consider water damage, sun damage and longevity vs budget. Check out the coastal living ideas and see what suits your fancy. Fun to watch your progress and hear your own reactions. Sorry it isn’t as pretty as you would have liked for your taste. It doesn’t look too red and brown when dry if they helps. ❤

That you did a big clean and sanitize before other kids came over is a service to the other families and appreciated to know you care not to share your own kids’ germs and make it nice and clean for the sleepover even if they trashed it which is to be expected to some extent at a sleepover.

dude don't discount yourself! having one is just as hard!! you still have to do all of the things! dinner is annoying because it's a constant. I think that's why I do things like this it gives me something to look forward to and switching things up a bit! Its a way of slowing life down a little bit! :)

We bought the big gazebo with tin roof at Costco and love it. Probably a cheaper option. We have a coach with two ottoman’s, two side tables, two chairs and a fire pit and a tv under it and it looks great. WA state here and it still stays dry. We do move the furniture in a bit when it gets really rainy.❤patio looks great!

If extending the roof line calls for a permit, maybe a Costco gazebo would work. They look a lot like some of your Pinterest pins and they’re affordable.

Love the 1st patio cover. Boy, your kids are lucky. We were taught to pick up after ourselves. No maid service for us.😅
They pick up after themselves too ;-) we teach them well. sometimes it's nice to have someone else do it for you :). wouldn't you like that too? I know I would. They have the rest of their lives to clean up after themselves. I won't be able to do it forever.

Fantastic video Kim! The pics were really nice. The only thing I’d suggest is, to have the roof be completely covered (like no openings in it). That way you’ll have nice shade over you, and can still go out there if it rains. Also, you can always have a ceiling fan installed in it down the road. Stay safe with this hurricane you’re getting. First, the pavers are great and as soon as you get the roof and furniture, plants etc…. You will see that it will all go together because of the earthy tones you chose👍🏻It just feels like it’s smacking you in the face because it’s new and it is the only thing there.
Second, as for covering the patio . Budget will decide. A pergola ,beautiful and easier on the pocketbook. A detached from the house but solid roof, is more than pergola but not as much as if you extend your existing roof. I love our pergola. We installed misters and fans and enjoy it all the time😁

I think the patio looks great! Maybe just a little pergola with a retractable shade or something. Or even just an umbrella foe the time being. There's always outdoor area rugs too if the color of the pavers bothers you but I think they look great! What a fun space!

My daughter had 3 football boys and a volleyball girl. Her choice of snacks was orange slices, pineapple slices and individual frozan Gatorade bottles. The bottles or inside liquid quickly melted in the Arizona heat!! 😊
