By his own admission he was more concerned with "staying in it", "rolling the dice", and "winning races". If he wasn't doing what he loved when he died, THAT would be the only tragedy... Anybody who defies death outside a video game is not only asking for trouble, they are setting a bad example.
Congrats Carlin! Crazy I met him at our local Ducati dealer in Santa Barbara. He was a big part of me being able to start my channel and test ride motorcycles. Never knew he was such a badass :)
It was an honor to watch you guys go up this year. Always been a fan of Ductai (love KTM as well) and loved seeing you guys take the win again this year. Being able to high five the riders on the way back down has definitely inspired me to get back on a Duc. Never stop being you.
I demoed the new Multistrada 950 and 1260S this past Saturday. Sure this Pikes Peak version has some tweaks and “power parts” for racing, but basically it’s almost the same bike.... and the 1260S ROCKED ME. Wow is that a friggen beast. The utility is incredible, I felt like I could ride it like a track bike in the curves (highway ramps) and then set the cruise control on, raise the windscreen, and chill cruise. Just amazing versatility.
the stock bikes are epic straight out of the showroom, i have a KTM790, have friends who have multistradas, they are both just fantastic bikes straight out of the box
The Multistrada 1200s DVT is a dream bike for me and unbelievable capable on twisty roads as it is..... but... "( both used pretty much stock bikes)" it's far away from that, if you allow me D.B, its much more .....and if we do the math, the racing parts the multis have on them to race at pikes peak.....they transform the bike to onother level belive me, and they cost thousnds.Only the magnesium wheels cost about 3.700$ and the list is going on !!! (sorry for my English)
@@ch69adv hi. Thanks for an answer. Out of curiosity, can you please elaborate on what parts that were changed for the Pikes Peak run other than mentioned in the video? I ride a 2018 1260S and love the bike!
As you climb in elevation, you have less air. They have significantly less air at the starting line than at sea level and even less than that at the summit. It wont help your engine if there isnt enough air to utilize the supercharger to pack in to the engine to speed it up. The LS would destroy them at the top of the course, and tbh this is prolly the best place to race an electric
But you still have more air with forced induction than without. Why should the air density difference negate the effects of the compressor? Turbos are known to deliver significantly superior performance at higher elevations over NA so I doubt a supercharged engine will be much different. All IC engines will experience power loss the higher you go, but FI of any sort will deliver more power at any given elevation than without. EVERYWHERE is the best place to race an EV. The IC engine's remaining days are shrinking in number at an exponential rate.
That new V4 Streetfighter Ducatis coming out with looks fantastic but I can't even handle all the power and acceleration of my new ZX14R-SE on track days so I don't think its for me - yet.
Pleumel I believe that is a Bell pro star flex and that it's custom painted for him. You can ask him on his webpage. He has a contact section there: www.carlindunne.com
I’d have a parachute on yes laugh all you want but some of those drops are over a few hundred feet and the last time I checked a parachute can open up to 180? Correct me if I’m wrong but, that alone could save his life as he’s wearing all that gear.
A parachute won't do a dam thing to save yourself from your bike losing control and throwing you into the gnarly boulders while at those high rates of speed bro. SMH...
Because on this type of course, with a lot of tight switchbacks, a bike like the Multistrada or Super duke will actually be faster. The overall motorcycle record is held by a Super Duke.
mrvwbug44 wrong, the superduke has a long wheelsbase like the ducati and performance on a course like that is still in favor of the superbike (only tight changing corners davor shorter wheelbases..) it's because of the low end torque.. a high reving N/A engine loses to much power due to thin air.. a lower reving, high torque engine like the 1260 has is just more useful.. same for the superdukes V2, low rev with high torque
mrvwbug44 this is correct. Pikes Peak is about grip, acceleration, skill, and balls of steel. I can't even imagine how insane running in a car is. Running in a bike is just suicidal. I mean unfortunately most of the injuries happen to bikers who slide out.
mrvwbug44 correction: the current new record on the all asphalt course is held by KTM (3 seconds difference). The old historic record which included the dirt section is still held by Ducati.
Because those bikes are much more agile. A supersport would also never have a chance to use more than 3 or 4 gears. You can reach almost 60 to 70% of the max speed on second gear with a supersport but on a race like Pikes Peak you have no chance to reach 300km. A multistrada is an agile 170 hp bike in short curves while a Panigale is a little clumsy 210 hp bike on the same playground. The 9th faster bike this year was a 450cc super-moto with 55 hp (stock)...
9enius Carlin Dunne’s previously held the record set at 9:52 with the Multistrada. It’s a 3 second difference on the current record set at 9:49 by KTM. Different weather conditions this year... Ducati also holds an history record set on the Multistrada when the track was a mix of asphalt and dirt... That’s where the Multistrada earned its name.
Haha, you know the Multistrada competes with the Adventure right? How much slower do you think that is up PP compared to the SDR? Imagine if Ducati builds a super naked off the V4 to actually compete with the SDR...
Nah dude, SDGT sure, but not the SDR. A Multistrada Pikes Peak edition is about 505lbs wet, a SDGT is about 515lbs, the SDR is 468lbs. The SDGT is tuned for more midrange just like the MS, the SDR engine is gives up some midrange for top end. They are different animals. I am not taking anything away from the KTM, it is just silly for 9enius to hate on the MS for being 10 sec. (only 3 sec. when you compare best times) slower. If you added 37lbs to a SDR it would easily be 3 seconds slower than its own record time.
R.I.P. Carlin. A very sad day for all of us.
Too bad we lost this guy
RIP Carlin. My heart goes out his family friends and team. Thoughts also with the paddock and organisation and medics.

Proud owner of a Ducati Mutistrada 1260 Pikes Peak.
What an awesome bike for almost every purpose.
I Hope that the new streetfighter gets your name." Carlin Dunne Replica"
How they ghosted the riders body around the corners was sweet!
I think they used 2 cameras, alignt it and combined the video into one.

such a great job from Carlin and Ducati
With the elevation affecting engines' output, I wonder if H2's supercharged engine would have an advantage over the rest.
not necessarily. Itll probably suffer more because of how much more air it has going in to in to be supercharged.
That makes no sense, more air = more fuel can be burned = more power = more fast. :/
LS 218 would have an advantage over 'em & the H2 too. XD

Apparently, just focusing isn’t good enough anymore. Now we have to “hyper-focus.”
Hyperbole is just another way that humans are losing the plot.

Ahhh where can I get that helmet???
Très très bien
Yo!! Whats the name of the song being played throughout the video?
i might be stupid, but why not a supersport?
I know almost nothing about Pikes Peak and sorry for the ignorant question, but why Ducati wont run on Panigale V4?
A V4 will make it worst in this race where torque rules.
What were the previous times
*I m p r e s s i v e* ❤️
just curious but why a multistrada? wouldn't a panigale v4 be faster with more power, nimbleness, and lighter weight?
Because they want to sell you a multistrada :-D
because it was 2018
I can't believe the bikes get destroyed by the cars

MrBozoleclown38 gotcha
why the multistrada and not the panigali??
...road is absurdly rough in places, you really need the extra, quality travel...
Also super sports don't like switchbacks
This is a race where torque rules
clip-ons handlebars are not permitted
