Astronomik CLS clip FILTER for CANON EOS R to reduce light pollution (UNBOXING first impressions)

- This video is about the new Astronomik CLS clip filter for Canon EOS R and Canon EOS Rp to reduce light pollution for milky way photography and astrophotography. CLS = City Lights Suppression.
In the video I unbox the package that I received by FedEx, take a look inside the box, and review the build quality and ease of use of the filter. I also show how the filter impacts the image recorded by the camera by trying to film with it during daytime.
In the upcoming weeks I will be testing this filter in the field and I also plan on recording a vlog in Tenerife (Canary Islands) where I will be testing this filter by taking photos of The Milky Way - so subscribe to the channel if you don't want to miss those follow-up videos!
The filter clips into the camera body itself so it can be used with any lens like Canon EF lenses with the adapter, Canon RF lenses and also any third party lenses e.g. Rokinon, Samyang, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina.
The video was filmed with:
► amzn.to/2LlyKtP - Canon EOS R
► amzn.to/3dE1fiM - Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO DX
► amzn.to/2zzzrwU - Rode SmartLav+ Microphone

GEAR I USE (links affiliated):
► amzn.to/2LlyKtP - Canon EOS R (I 100% recommend this camera for people both into photography and filmmaking)
► amzn.to/2SUKBmZ - Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 MACRO STM (my go-to lens for UA-cam videos, astrophotography and more!)
► amzn.to/2SU5FKo - Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM (underrated but excellent wide prime for vlogging and street or landscape photos)
► amzn.to/2STDhIn - Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM (excellent lens for moon photos, landscapes and deep sky astrophotography)
► amzn.to/2SX49Hj - Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer (astrophotography tracking mount)
► amzn.to/35Nc9zZ - Rode VideoMicro (excellent quality cheap shotgun microphone - perfect for vlogging and youtube)
► amzn.to/2SUHJX0 - Gorillapod 3K PRO (best gorillapod ever - with aluminum sockets that don't break!)
► amzn.to/3dzEtZ9 - Aputure MC (the best every tiny RGB LED video light with build-in battery
► amzn.to/2WldScs - DJI Mavic 2 Pro (legend in drones - foldable, reliable, produces a beautiful image)
► amzn.to/35NqcWe - Samsung T5 (excellent blazing fast, durable and tiny external SSD drive that I edit on)
► amzn.to/3dE1fiM - Tokina 11-20mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO DX

By pure chance you've answered the exact question I had: does this work with the EF/RF adapter? Yes. Thank you!
Cool intro to light pollution filter from Astronomik and they are linking to your video so I hope they reimburse you for the filter you bought!!
Thanks for showing. It’s not easy to find this particular filter on this camera
You’re welcome 😊
Cool, would this filter also work for reducing light pollution when using an Astro modified camera? Or would it be better not to use one with an Astro modified camera?
Sure. Can’t go wrong with astromodifying for astro regardless of LP filters
@@kamilkp and a LP filter benefit further?
Hi Kamil. Thanks for your videos. I have a Canon RP and I want to practice deep sky astro photography from City with Bortle 7 Sky. Do you recommend that filter? Greetings from Mexico.
Yeah I would recommend it. I’m quite happy with mine. For example this is a shot I got using this filter from Bortle 7 as well: www.astrobin.com/zv74gz/?nc=user
@@kamilkp Surprising!! Beautiful job. But do I just put it on camera and nothing else? Do I have to correct any failure caused by the filter in post production? Thanks a lot!
There definitely is a lot of work in post but not much more than if you were shooting without the filter from under a darker sky
@@kamilkp Ok. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer me. Take care greetings. I wish you clear skies
loud music and slo-mo to open a fedex envelope? Am I going to live long enough to sit and watch that kind of theatrics while listening to loud music? We don't mind if you rehearse before you demonstrate. Thank you for your very expert, concise review.
By any chance, does anyone know if it works on Nikon Zf?
Web site not yet updated with the last 2-3 models
hi there off out again tonight after getting this filter for my eosr, very excited to be honest and hope it works, question, what white balance do you need for this filter?
Heh, white balance with this filter is a tricky business, I’m glad you asked! Check out this video where I break down this very subject: ua-cam.com/video/NxOBz3nrUw8/v-deo.html
No sample photos?
I have photos in subsequent videos
I bought the Astronomik 12nm Ha filter for my Canon R and the only way I can get it to fit is to use EF lenses with the adaptor; using RF lenses the lens will not go back on; have others had this experience??
Which RF lenses are you trying?
@@kamilkp RF 35mm F1.8 macro
That’s what I thought. Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/sKcNDIe1JOI/v-deo.html
Dude you’re supposed to test the filter at night time otherwise it’s useless.
I said that I was just checking it out out of curiosity. I have followup videos about this filter when I test it in conditions it’s designed for - so make sure to check those out
I have Canon M 50 mirrorless camera and an EFM to EF adapter. How can I attach filters like optolong L pro?
You’d need a filter designed for the EF-M mount. The fact that you adapt an EF lens on it doesn’t allow you to use EF-mount based clip in filters.
Mine is having some problems. Im getting a red ring around my image
Reach out to Astronomik support. They have excellent customer service
@@kamilkp Ok, thanks! I subscribed :)
I live in the wrong country for Astro photo 🇩🇰 😒
Denmark? Well maybe with this CLS filter you don’t 😉 I will do some proper testing of it in the coming weeks so stay tuned! I visited Copenhagen once - beautiful city.
But have you seen the dark map finder
Come to my country...Australia! We have lots of dark sky places.
