I just want to say that this video couldn't have come at a better time for me. Since the end of my season I haven't been able to find the words to sum it all up. After a forced break during the COVID I wanted to get back on track with strength and a good mental plan, but I injured my knee and my neck... 2023 was a test and this season my injuries meant that my mental foundations were shaken and the results were felt (from 88% to high 70%). It's not easy to find your bearings in this new competitive environment that has evolved in my abcence, all the while being a family man and provider. Thanks for the video, it helps. It helps to hear other competitors who I consider to be far more successful than me talk about their challenges.
Hunter first, turned competitive. Started in 23. Wife joined as well. We both started on 308s against all advice. Switched shortly after to 6.5cm. We learned so much. Been shooting production 6.5cms since halfway through our first year. I reload for both of us. New to that as well. Fully hooked. Loving every minute of it.
Phillip, I think you'll be THE champion in a few years. From what I see you've got what it takes. The skills, the ability to analyze your performance, the creativity to make positive changes. One thing that might help you is looking into ways to relax your mind while you're shooting. It might be meditation, or relaxation types of exercises. This would allow your subconscious to handle most of the things you do well. When you were talking about using different cartridges for different matches in a previous podcast, I was thinking there is no way I would be able to keep it all straight. It sounds like you might be coming around to the thought that knowing one or two cartridges may be a better approach? Time will tell.
I used to do D&C.. remember this one parade where the o6 turns his back on the podium, shouts at the troop "AT EASE!! PREPARE TO STANDBY BOYS. IT GONNA BE A LONG ONE!!" That Bird weezed so long a fucking horse passed out and fell over on top of a soldier. No shit. God bless the heads up! Saves me from the silver bullet 😂😂
Watching this, but really listening, not while I dry fire my high precision MDT rifle build, and only shot 2 PRS competitions this year but while I eat my left over fajita trio meal from Chilies, 😂 lol so just wanted to say thanks for sharing even thought I may not be a former Scout Sniper, but again thanks for sharing and thank you for your service brother!!! OOOH RAHH & SEMPER FI
With all the shooters in the PRS getting better and better as well as the gear, how many more impacts do you think you would have at the 2018 finale if you were as good as you are today?
I use the idft turret tape. It is super cheap and works great with wet erase markers. That being said, last month at the Forster PRC I not only forgot to mark my turret but also never checked my first target dial. Luckily I figured it out on the second shot and had an arm board on. But still felt really dumb.
Have you used nail polish to mark the screws? The debate about investment can be said.. I have been considering to use arbor press for seating. The debate is, time vs reward. Also the cost in tooling. For a new shooter, is it better to go all in up front and just keep high spirits... Or lower cost equipment and more rounds downrange upfront in exchange for larger investments on the backend. I do agree with sticking out one round. Got three 25cal barrels and 500 6.5x47 brass to neck down.
Future content: I really appreciate you sharing Stretch routine and PT tips. I revisit that video, but if there were updated it might make for a good episode.
Another good one Phil. I'd like to know more about what you think has made the difference in your placings at this finale Vs previous. Is it the aggregate of marginal gains or is there more to it? Props to you for placing so well, the precision rifle world is so competitive now, a lot of people who scored well a few years ago wouldn't be above the 50% line these days. Whatever you're doing is keeping you at the front 💪
Another great podcast.. Great message, outstanding delivery and spoken straight forward from the heart. Keep up the inspirational and informative content . Well done gent👍.
I need help finding a chassis for a model 70 in .223 the closest I found was MDT but discontinued. If you or anyone reading this could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
Loving all of the content. Best stuff out there in the space right now.
Watching this while doing dry-fire drills for positional shooting. Always grinding to get to that next level.
