  • Welcome to our latest video, where we discuss the pros and cons of having your cat live indoors or outdoors with our friends The Two Crazy Cat Ladies, Julie-Anne Thorne from Naturally Cats and Pam Rousell from Purrrfectly Holistic.
There's no denying that cats love the great outdoors. The fresh air, sunshine, and endless opportunities for exploration and play are all things that cats enjoy. However, letting your cat roam freely outside comes with its own set of risks and challenges.
In this video, we'll explore the benefits of indoor living for cats, including a safer and more controlled environment that reduces the risk of injury, disease, and predation. We'll also showcase ways to create an enriching indoor environment for your cat, with plenty of toys, scratching posts, and vertical climbing spaces.
On the flip side, we'll also delve into the advantages of outdoor living for cats, including increased exercise and mental stimulation and the ability to satisfy their natural instincts to hunt and explore. We'll also highlight ways to make the outdoor environment safer for your cat, such as installing cat-proof fencing or providing a secure outdoor enclosure.
Ultimately, the decision of whether to keep your cat indoors or let them outside is a personal one that depends on your cat's individual needs and circumstances. This video will give you the information you need to make an informed decision and ensure your cat's safety and well-being.
So join us as we explore the pros and cons of indoor and outdoor living for cats. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more informative and entertaining videos about our feline friends.

I feel compelled to keep our cats safe from wandering the neighborhood. Gave them a catproof fenced backyard to find that it wasn't enough for the three of them. Binx and I had to compromise. He is given the daylight hours to explore beyond the fence and comes home during the day as often as he likes. He's been very good at coming home before dark and when we need to go away. Since giving him his freedom he spends most of his time in the garden out front or on our front porch. Our other two cats are happy with the fenced in yard to explore.

Thanks for your response and I know your kitties are definitely in tune with you and love how you shared the differences too with your cats. They are all individuals in what they prefer.

Hi Joanie, I'm like you ... 2 of my 3 kitties that I rescued lived outside, so they feel comfortable there. I live in a street that is a cul de sac, so no cars, and people are supposed to walk their dogs on leashes, no coyotes, no bears, no hawks ... so I let them go out during the day then at 4pm (they learn that that's the time to come in) they are in the garden and then I close out the door by which they freely go in and out and then they spend the rest of the evening in the enclosed garden I made for them. I feel so much better when 4pm rolls around .... but I know that keeping them in would make them miserable (had to do it with Milky when I had to operate on his ears where he couldn't go out for a month) ....
Then Lola also loves to go out ... but I have a feeling that she is never too far ... so in the bushes surrounding the house .... and she's in many many times during the day. I also don't let them completely out on days where it's very cold, or pouring down rain, because Lola has short legs so she can't escape a predator easily so rain she would slide and could fall and hurt herself ....
And Coco (had to let him go a few days ago) hated the cold, the rain, the wind .. he would sit in front of the glass door, I would open it, then Coco would assess the situation but boy when he didn't want to go out, he was a diva and let me know ... :-) I miss him.

After living in an apartment, we moved to a house, with a tiny little garden, surrounded by walls, and with a balcony. I got it all secured with nets, and now they can enjoy the little outdoor space... if it wasn't for the dog with whom they still don't get along. Outside the house, there are many free-roaming cats, and my dog has tried to chase each and every one of them... they would be safer indoors because this is a big, bussy city.

Julie-Anne made me giggle so much, it was cute when she said she brings them in at night to make sure they get a good nights sleep. 😊😂
    Shes like 'it's always me'.

I put a pet door in for my cats. They would drive me crazy if made them stay inside. Luckily I live in the country, I sprinkle diatomaceous earth around to keep ticks and fleas away. My cats are happiest cats being free.❤

Thanks for sharing. Our cats in NZ loved having a cat door. Now it’s just supervised outdoor time in CO due to all the predators.

I strongly believe cats should be allowed outdoors most of the time, however they should be inside for some time especially when you're not outside unless in a balcony or terrace etc.

I understand freaking out not wanting them to go outside but if you're able to get them to stay in your backyard in a safe environment I'm all for very 4 having them go outside But that was very difficulto get to this poif I wanna my male cat Buddha He had gone out of the doggy door a few times and I realized that he was just staying in the yard hes not a climber or jumper because aunt you know he goes under things so I wasn't really afraid of him trying to get out of the yard so hes been going on ever percent and at 1st I tried to take him in at night the 1st night he attacked everybody in the house so the 2nd night I told him he could stay outside and hes sometimes spends the night and you know the days inside but he mostly sleeps outside at night and then my other little calico my little Cali girl She started going in-and-out the doggy door and now she spends a lot of time out there but also doesn't go anywhere she really just stays under my overhang or goes into the shed or lays on the grass and between the shed and theBack porch so she doesn't Chase anything outside because if she does to move my Boston terrier pretty much corrals her back so thankfully if she doesn't go anywhere now my little 3 legged Kitty is wanting to come outside And that 1 does have me a little nervous it's cause she's already so scary.... But because she scared I don't think she'll venture too far from the back door she goes out there at all

      Hi,
Thanks for sharing your message. It's great to learn what other pet parents are doing, and how they manage their pet's indoor/outdoor experience. We also allow one of our cats to venture outside under supervision, and he loves the experience.
Thanks for watching and learning more!

PEST CONTROL NUMBER ONE FOR ME IS THE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH.
Also, I grow my own cat grass in containers and wild.
My 3 cats have been healthy and accident free by the grace of God. When I start to feel fear for them I pray for their protection. They're indoor and outdoor cats and I live in Maine, so we have every type of animal known to be a predator. My little cat/pet door is my favorite purchase ever. Makes it so Im no longer their butler letting 3 cats in and out 24 hours a day.

I think cats that are allowed to go outside are longer living/less health problems. For example we've had dozens of i door/outdoor cats and we've never had any hypothyroid cats. It seems like everyone I know with hypothyroid cats are indoor only.
