I was missing a symptom for Maybeline. Licking the dirt and itchy ears. I will have to start helping Maybeline with these so she too will do better. Food change is also in her near future. Thank you. I was so overwhelmed with Poppy’s health and Maybeline was just waiting for me to notice that she too needs help.

We've noticed that when our puppy parents ask about their Shih Tzu itching, almost every time they take them off GMO dog foods, the itching stops...of course, that's after we've done our best together to rule everything else out where possible. What are your thoughts Dr. Katie? We see that being the case again and again but that may just be a breed-specific issue.
There are definitely many causes of itching, which is why asking the question why is so powerful. Nutrition is a very important part and unfortunately comes with a lot of chemicals, like glyphosate. Genetics is only 10% of the problem and we have a lot of research in the fields of epigenetics and nutrigenomics that show us how we can actually manipulate the expression of genes, so I personally don’t focus on breed as much as the environmental, physical, and emotional aspects of health. These areas are much more empowering too since we have the ability to do something about them. I’ll be talking about this in my free workshop next week if you’d like to learn more about how I personally approach these issues. My English Bull Terrier has been itchy since I got her at six weeks. My Welsh terrier doesn’t itch at all. They both have stainless bowls, eat the same food and drink filtered water.

Aluminum is the most common one we see and there will also be exposure from many places. The key is to ensure that our pet’s detox pathways can get it out, just like for us. One of my rescues licks and chews her feet and legs almost constantly. Another one (still a puppy) has had skin issues since we found the litter and the Mom. I also have a lab that has none of these issue. Super high quality food with Grass Fed BARF and Beef Broth for them all. Water is filtered. Not sure how to do this test, I am in Costa Rica.
