The transparent navigation bar on dark mode works very well. Like on Facebook, there is no more bezel around the bar which was not the case. (Used Facebook cuz it was one of the apps which was very famous for not supporting a transparent bar for Android)
Is there any major update in the backend? Or is it mostly just appearance updates in the UI? If it's the former I think I can use my current phone on android 13 for another year easily

I notice the home screen icons now have a little "shortcut maker" right arrow in the lower right of each app icon made with the app but they still properly launch any given app. Try force stopping Shortcut Maker, clearing cache, and rebooting phone?

Finally just got the update to 14 today on my RAZR+ Ultra 2023. The one thing I really want that still seems neither Android nor Apple have that Blackberry 10 OS had was in texting. Whenever you input more than one name for a group text a check box would appear and give you the choice if you wanted to create a goup text so everyone replies are seen or send it to multiple people (bassically a bcc) and only each person's reply is sent back to you. This was one of my fav features Blackberry had that is still absent even in 2024 on Android...now that would be a best update. Now this is done for each message and not global and does not effect any of your previous groups. As it is now you can do this on Android but it is a global setting that will affect all texts.
Once we get to Android versions 16 17 and 18... the search results will give 2 very different results... Only manga/anime fans will understand what i mean.
This isn't related to the video; but I thought perhaps since you suggested essential features you might have a suggestion. I have an app that needs to have the permission to show things on top of other apps which I have allowed. The issue is on android 14 the system feels the need to tell me that the app needs this permission in the notification area and the option to turn off this notification is grayed out. Swiping the message to the left gets rid of it for a short period of time; but then it comes right back. So this results in the message taking up space in my notification area all the time. I have searched all over the internet and the default answer seems to be if the option to turn off is grayed out then one is out of luck. This was not an issue with Android 10 which I am coming after having a phone for 5 years. Thanks for your help.

I find this update to be quite lackluster in terms of visual and feature changes (although i do love all the new features) there werent any major bugs from android 13 that really warranted this lack of featureset (like how android 13 was minor visually and cosmetically but fixed so much of android 12)

I'm stupid, let me get this straight... I have a Motorola Edge 30 with Android 13, my home screen and lock screen's wallpapers are basically pink images. The theme I can apply from the Motorola settings (there is NO "Themes App", like I encountered in my Xiaomi phone) chooses the colour of everything based on any colour I want (pink, because I love this colour), or I can pick the colour from the wallpaper. So, choosing from the wallpapers, my phone app (Google phone, the stock app) is pink, my messages app (Google messages, the stock app) is pink, my calculator (stock app) is pink, my buttons are pink, and even my Chrome tabs are pink, and I REALLY love this. Will tI be able to choose the colour basing on the wallpaper applied, with this Android update? I don't want to lose my pink...!
Only reason this is a new numbered version release is to push phone sales; and force obsolescence of previous gen hardware. Any of this could have been implemented in a security patch.
For those lock screen icons, I need to swipe left or right, not long press? I find it weird that they change the default colors of notification to white. We can change it with wallpapers. But all those colors are washed out. I found a method using Theme Park. But the issue was this app doesn't show in my region. So I need to use an apk file, which can come with a risk. Kinda weird they use a 3rd party app, to bow adjust this. What i also dislike, is that AOD can't be changed in brightness anymore. We could double tab clock in A13 and it could see the brightness settings, this doesn't work bo more and is also not in settings

I want the essential feature of editing the 'data' folder back. I used to transfer my Minecraft worlds from one phone to a new one just by copy and paste the world files. Now I can't even access the 'data' folder, I'm forced to use Realms. I guess most of us don't need that much security, I want the customization back.

Anyone having battery issues with Android 14 on their Pixel 7? On Android 13, I'd usually get 5 hours of Screen On Time. Since Android 14, I've been getting 3 hours. I don't always have bluetooth and wifi/data on but my Pixel 7's battery has been draining relatively quickly
All seems good and all. Google pixel 4a5g is offering android 14. But i feel as alot of these new features are just more drain to the battery. Think im gonna hold off.

You've been able to set a passcode with a pin on all phones
You can set it so that you don't have to hit "enter" after. Once you enter your 6 digits, it automatically opens. It has to be a 6-digit code, though.

No. The Pixel 7 could possibly do those things in theory, but Google is unlikely to add them as it lowers the incentive to upgrade your device.

My biggest gripe with Android has been how tacky it's colored. Changing that to greyscale is going to be epic!
