I downloaded and installed it yesterday, and I can honestly say that I don't see anything differently except that swipe from left and right, and I like the way it was before. Camera app also updated and looks a bit different, but for a regular business user this is 99% the same system as the previous one.
I have the update downloaded on my Pixel 7 but I am still hesitant on installing it. Can you tell me if in any way the update has negatively impacted the phone?
Enjoying Android 14 on my Pixel 5. I really see no need to upgrade to the 8, the front camera of the 5 is better than the 8 and the 5 comes with something that no other more recent Android does.... free unlimited photo and video storage. I'm going to be holding on to my 5 for as long as possible.
Attempting to address everyone's comments. It's not worth upgrading to the 8 from the 5 because of free unlimited photo storage on the 5 (you have to pay for photo storage on the 6 and beyond). The processor may have 9 cores and the battery on the 8 is slightly more than the 5 (software is the same though), but it still lags behind Samsung and Apple for both. The 5 also just got Android 14, which is what the 8 ships with, so in terms of software they are currently equal. I'd say for me to give up free unlimited photo storage and pay a monthly fee for photo storage, I'd have to wait at least until the Pixel 10 for the specs to outweigh the costs.
I got a Pixel for the fast updates. This is my first Pixel. P7Pro on T-Mobile and still waiting. I would have stuck with Samsung if I would have known it’s not true. TI’s been this way the last 3 months
I have the pixel 6 and and after using Android 14 for a few days I've noticed a huge amount of battery drain and constantly overheating which I noticed because it never used to happen and also I've noticed my charging time is taking way longer, not sure if it's just me.
Thank you. I probably wouldn't have found most of these new things. Having said that, it seems like they are just minor things compared to the amazing things we used to see in updates years ago. It seems like we're finally getting to a point where features don't make much difference to what we use day to day. Is there anything left that could be done in a feature drop to make phones more exciting and useful? What's something that you would want a phone to do in the future? I'm having a hard time coming up with something.
Still waiting for it for my Pixel 7. That's something I like about Apple, when it's available, it's there for everyone. Looking forward to it when I can finally get it.

Everytime I do a software update/updates, mobile data personal hot spot no longer works anymore. Software updates ends up removing features that the phone came with and what really sucks is that you can't go back to the previous version once any software updates have already been made without root access. I used to have the lg k92. Before any software updates were done on the lg k92 there was an option to enable outdoor mode in the display settings that can be turned on and off to make the display brighter than the stock display brightness settings. When I updated the lg k92, the option for outdoor mode to increase the display brightness was removed and is no longer available on the lg k92. I used the outdoor mode to increase the display brightness of the phone 100% of the time. The older android phones used to have outdoor mode for increased display brightness but is no longer available on newer android phones. I still have my one plus one android phone and it has outdoor mode to increase the display brightness. The display got bright that it made the colors looked washed out but I want a very bright display in manual mode and outdoor mode makes the display very bright in manual mode.
Have you encountered any bugs so far? I got the update just haven't installed it yet, I'm waiting for a day I have off work in case there's any issues that requires troubleshooting.

I miss when google used to have dessert names for every version of android instead of numbers since using numbers is boring and not unique compared to using dessert names. My favorite easter egg when selecting build number in settings under about phone is the android version of flappy bird and the android version of pokemon go. I still use the 3 button navigation since I hate using the gestures. I prefer using the back, home and the recent apps button since it's easy to user to use than the gesture navigation. The 3 button navigation for android reminds me of the playstation buttons on a playstation controller but for android. Google should add the trash can or recycle bin on android like a pc so when something is deleted, whatever is deleted won't be gone forever. Google should have outdoor mode to increase the display brightness to make the display brighter even in manual mode as an option to turn it on and off and be built in android and have the recycle bin/ track can be built into android as well. The older versions of android phones used to have outdoor mode to make the display brighter even the display is already at 100% display brightness in manual mode. I still have my one plus one and it has outdoor mode to make the display even brighter than the stock brightness in manual display brightness settings. My one plus one outdoor mode can be turned on and off with a toggle in the settings. Even the budget samsung phones that used micro usb had outdoor mode for the display screen brightness in manual screen brightness. I hate using autobrightness since it automatically dims the display. I rather have more control over the display brightness. One of the older android phones that I used to have played music in the background while I was talking on the phone. For example, when I was listening to music on my phone and someone called me. The volume of the music playing would automatically be playing at a very low volume but I can still have a conversation on the phone with my music playing in the background and you can turn on and off the music playing in the background while talking on the phone. When I'm done talking on the phone, the music would automatically go back to the volume that it was set to. I don't remember what phone it was when music was playing in the background while being on the phone call. All I remember is that the phone was using a micro usb port. The era of android phones with the micro usb port had so many features, functionalities and choices. Nowadays, newer phones that use the usb c port are removing ports and features of the phones that used to come with the phone and now you have to buy what the phones used to be included without paying extra to use the basic features on a smart phone. All manufacturers and brands took the basic features of the smartphones and made profit out of it and it's really annoying to deal with plus they are less brands of android brands and manufacturers compared to the era of micro usb for android phones.
