I surfed Arugam Bay in July of 1976. Room and food was US dollars 0.25 per day. I was the only American along with a few other Australians. I had friends that surfed it long before I got there.
@@babygorilla424 I don’t know what it is like now, but no doubt quite different. There was not any kind of a scene, we just surfed until the wind came up then went back to the “village” and smoked Afghani black and Thai sticks. The food was not too exotic either just fish and some coconut. I’ve got a few black and white photos of the place and people. It was very very remote back then and there was nothing to do but surf, walk the beach or smoke. It was a hard place. And to stay long took some luck as corral cuts would result in horrendous infections. I have very fond memories of the place but it was a hard place and most of us who passed through were kind of hard people. There was just nothing there but a few palm frond huts, nothing on the point and a long walk to get in or out. Those were the days I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Videos like these attract more crowds to a already crowded place until it tipps at some point. Good example of how we as a species destroy what we love.

Went there in '94 :: : Loose, mellow Potty Pt unattended zero vegan shakes now it's an instagrammable shitshow manbun cheeselord "content creators" etc etc like everywhere - Aus , Bali glad I went back when it was cool
mass party tourism destroyed it pretty much, not much surf vibe going on there. just a lot of super shitty parties with those kind of people that this vibe attracts...it's a shame to be honest..

wow...what was the scene like in 1976? I imagine it must've been very different to what Arugam Bay looks like today.
Wow
@HomerWhite-s2r I was there in April 1983, , a couple of weeks before the war that lasted for nearly 30 years.

Such a great edit and how awesome to capture this beautiful moment in time. If you don't mind me asking, what time of year were you in Arugam?

Unfortunately, I had a hard drive failure last year, and all of the footage is gone.
@@TituszMagyar That's okay - can we credit and include some of this particular youtube footage? How can we credit you in the End Credits?

Can we put Titus Magyar in the end credits?
