    Edc night vision just makes sense. Maybe not an "edc" item to work everyday, but vacations, any trip out of town, and definitely camping.

    Looking up at the stars on a crisp winter night through my GI PVS-14's is one of the things that I miss the most from my Army days. It's an experience not to be missed.

    This has validated me for bringing my NODs with me when I travel. I agree too, if someone is gonna go as far as having an active shooter rig and rifle in the car, why not have your night vision as well? It's such a force multiplier that it would be crazy not to have it.

    I take mine whenever I leave town for more than a day, if for nothing else than to have fun with. I usually take a bit more but I don’t talk about that.

    I think nv is an important thing for an edc. I mean if someone goes through the effort to create a get home bag for when they drive to work or further away. It just makes sense to add it if they have already added everything else.

    Great video, I’m currently looking for the solution you have come up with here in this video. Just need to source a mount base and a night cap and I’ll be covered. Thanks for confirming what I’ve been thinking. 🤙🏽 Aloha

    I edc my Leupold tracker 2 HD and today I'm trading off my older tracker for a pvs7 my first introduction into legit night vision granted its older and a bit outdated but for a beginner and technically into it for $600 I feel it's a good start

      That's awesome. I think a pvs7 for starters is great. I bet that will hold value too when you want to sell it towards a nicer settup.

    As someone who owns both pvs14 and pvs31a, i can say dual is just superior. The argument that you have more situational awareness when wearing a pvs14 is moot because you still can see under the environment when using pvs31. It functions similarly to those prescription eyeglasses that the bottom half of the lens are for reading. Not to mention the field of view benefits and the ability to do admin task of pvs31

    • @compulsivegunbuyer
      @compulsivegunbuyer  Місяць тому

      @heinrichfuhrmeister1244 I somewhat agree, although it's worth mentioning that you do not get any additional field of view with dual tubes, unless you are using a panobridge of some sort.

    While certainly not the first thing on the list. This concept (and near exact setup) is something I would like to experiment with in my bag EDC. The main issue is the distinct lack of nighttime activity so usecase would be extremely low

      This settup has worked very well for me. I have found the nightcap to be a great option as long as you don't go heavier than a pvs14 and counterweigh it effectively.

    How do you think the nightcap would work with glasses? Would the straps having to be really tight make it not work or could you maybe put the glasses arms over the straps?

      I have a butler creek scope cap on the pvs14. Not sure what size as it came on the device when I bought it used. The previous owner had used electrical tape to make it fit tight on the front of the tube.

      The batteries and the crye pouch has worked well enough for me with the solution I showed in the video. I guess any of the other velcro weights used on helmets would work too, but I think they all require some amount of jerry-rigging to make them work. There is a lot you can do with velcro tape and shock cord.

    I’m broke, what’s eBay green phosphor like?

    • @compulsivegunbuyer
      @compulsivegunbuyer  Рік тому +1

      Ebay has a range from crap to very good, but green phosphor as a rule can be very good. I'm hoping to do a comparison with my gp tubes in the future. The lowest I'd generally consider is a milspec green phosphor pvs14 which can be found for $2100-$2500. But I've heard of people getting starter pvs7 devices for sub $1000 (seems like a good idea but I can't speak to it personally). One idea is to get a range buddy to split the cost and ownership so you can both train until one of you can afford to buy the full unit.

      @autisticANDarmed Рік тому

      @@compulsivegunbuyer I've got no buddies like that, I'm a near broke high school senior. As for the PVS7, I've heard way too much bad stuff on it to even consider it as an option. Is the $2100 just base price without tax or shipping? Most of the listings on ebay right now are elbit or other military housings with some other non-american "Gen 3" tubes in them. I thank christ I did a little more research before trying to blow what little money I have.
      Gonna look into Nighthawk vision and Nocturnality's elbit XLS GP options, or see if any legit stuff comes up on ebay.

      @@compulsivegunbuyer The only way you're able to acquire a PVS-7 for under $1,000 in 2022 is if you get a dog shit blem tube and build it yourself with a housing kit. ($650-$799 for the housing, minimum of $500 for the tube) I've been watching prices for 7s and their parts for months on ebay and it doesn't seem to get lower than that.

      @@autisticANDarmed Hey look man, I'm a university student who happens to own BOTH a pvs-14 AND a pvs-7 (both gen 3). Let me tell you right now, don't believe all the hate on the internet regarding the 7s. It is still a very usable system and in some ways I prefer it to my PVS-14. Sometimes after long use periods with the PVS-14, I get a headache from having a bright green image over just one eye. This does not happen with the PVS-7 as the image is displayed to both eyes.
      Depth Perception: This seems to be a common complaint when people on the internet talk about the PVS-7. I will say this, because the PVS-14 goes over just one eye, the actual depth perception doesn't feel much different from a PVS-7. Both are somewhat poor, however with training (literally just walking around) you can become very proficient with the PVS-7 and 14. Also on a side note, keep in mind that there are still many special forces operators around the world who are still using gen 3 PVS-7s to stack bodies.
