My 2nd indie game Mage and Monsters earned me 55 thousand dollars in 2 months, after refunds and valve takes their cut. It took me 8 months to make, and I only spend 400 dollars creating it before release. Here is how I achieved the indie dream with my 2nd game.

Hi, indie developer here who fired slasher. Slasher was our game designer. He carried around a top hat and a Notch pendant. He would push our developers out of their chairs, make them play Minecraft on tablets on the floor, and then lecture them on the importance of learning, all while occasionally yelling "SLASHER'S WAY". We gave him the game designer position so he could be an office clown. Granted, his unorthodox strategy worked and carried us to success but I still felt like he deserved to be fired.
I really didn't expect this old copy pasta to come back under this video from all of the places XD
Nice one. Even after 7 year it still not getting old
what the... can someone give me some context on this? lol
@@JosepPi I dunno, but I've read a much longer version of it shown as a serious story, from a manager point of view, titled "we fired out best/star/genius programmer and it was a great decision" (they rewrote most of the code he wrote and finished the project in like a year), a long story of management failures and burnout but written as if the developer was the sole problem.
@@JosepPiIt's an edited version of this copypasta:
Hi, 4k player here who reported slasher. Slasher was our position 1 faceless void. He built a mek and had around 29 healing salves in his inventory. He would chrono both teams in the middle of a fight, salve his allies, pop mek, and proceeded to yell "SLASHER'S WAY". We gave him position 1 farm so he could be a position 5. Granted, his unorthodox build worked and carried us to victory but I still felt it deserved a report.
SLASHERS WAY
Due to a break from Dota, I was ignoring all notifications from channels like yours - but I'm glad I didn't skip this one. Great video, thank you for sharing these lessons with us. I will definitely be checking your game out!
I follow you since a lot of time and it's really Great to see your evolution, from dota to game a developer. Me as a software developer, that had done computer science dreaming about being a game developer but life took me to another place tô make my earnings, this vídeo was very inspirational. Thank you and congrats, I wish The best of luck and success in your next games
Good work man. Takes a lot of guts and grit to go out and do something like this. Keep at it!
PROUD OF U. this really inspires me man, keep it up :)
Great work Slasher, your hard work inspires me.
congrats slahser. were you tempted to call this video "slahser's way: becoming a successful indie developer"?
yeah but I am trying to appeal to a broader audience:p
@@slahserTV They will adapt. Keep your style.
Slahser, congrats man! I love this Slahser story progression
Great video slahser! I used to be a big fan of your Dota builds, hadn't really checked on your channel in awhile. awesome to see that you are still pushing yourself creatively ! I'm gonna buy your game 😊
Great video. Thanks!

i saw mage and monsters played by some ytbers and thought it was a good game.
Not something i could have said about your first game, it was okish and i always wondered what you have been doin since...

Good to see you slahser. I'm starting some indie dev too
this is my fav slasher's guide... congrats dude.
What a fucking chad man, godbless you slahser. You are so genuine and honest it is very inspiring just to hear you speak.
I can attest to the demo part. Found the demo of the game. Played it, liked it and decided to wishlist and try the final release. :)
Oh dude YOU made this? I watched Retromation play this the other day.
Love you slasher.
Just saw the thumbnail. You look really good 👍🏼
Hey, wanted to say thanks for the very inspiring video.
I found myself in a very similar situation, I used to play a lot of dota, turned this energy in learning how to make games, discovered Dr K and learned a lot about myself and how to keep going. And now I recently published my first indie game, with results similar to your first one ^^
I wasn't sure how to proceed from here (I still want to work on and improve the first one, but I also started gathering design ideas for a potential 2nd game) and your video really motivated and conforted me in this idea.
Just wanted to comment because I found the similarities amusing, and to say thanks for the inspiration :)
I don't know if you'll see this but I have a question for you if you're open to talk about this:
I'm curious to know how you spent the 400$ budget, and how did you make the art for the game capsule? (I suppose both questions are linked^^)
The main negative feedback my game receives is that the artstyle isn't appealing, so I'm pondering the possibility of spending some of the revenue to improve that, and I think having a better capsule could really help to give a better first impression (and my theory is that it would also help getting the game played by streamers by providing a nice thumbnail. Which btw same conclusion as you, my game got like a >800% increase in sales/wishlist after a couple of youtubers picked it up, they're unsurprisingly the best marketing approach)
great video
Hi Slashers, im very inspired by your story. I recently started learning C# on code academy and wondered if you could provide me with a rough roadmap to being a developer after codeacademy. Well done on your creations my friend they're excellent!
It's amazing, I actually bought the game before I saw this video
Happy for you
lmao this video legit just inspired me to start creating my own game
Lasse is built different
Good stuff
I'll give it a try on releasing a BETA before the main game next time.
Are you worried people will get sick and bored of your game during BETA and wont bother with the full release? Also, when the real one is released won't they find replaying the stuff boring / slow since theyve already seen it ?
just don't be one of those movie trailers that spoil the full plot LULE
devaughn of hell pog
What is the song in the beginning?
I still play Caltruin and clone in my opinion the best 2d multiplayer game
bro you inspired me
Slasher’s way.
🎉with how much wishlist you launched
cool :)
Slasherpilled
Slashers way
Ayy dr k!
I released 2 games both with 0 downloads(android)
you basically just copy vampire survivors
lmao there are million of games copying vampire survivors but this is not a copy of vampire survivors
game with pixel art = game I like with pixel art
This is an auto battler, not an arena survival, did you even watch the footage?
There's literally nothing in this gameplay that says Vampire Survivors 😂
Why do you use AI art in your videos? (0:17) It's absolutely unethical.
post it on r/dota2 bruh
