Thanks again to Zaza for sharing her journey with us so candidly! Please remember that this is only Zaza’s story and her lived experiences and she does not speak for the entire trans or LGBTQ+ community. Please feel free to share your own stories or experiences in the comments while keeping this space kind and safe :)
I admire people like Zaza coz they have that courage to live her truth despite what society tells us what we should or should not do, especially since she grew up in a very conservative environment and her religion too. It helps that she has a mother that is accepting.
And she isn't the only one to undergo such a sexual reassignment. I remember there was another pair of brothers who chose to go through the same thing together years ago. Couldn't find the article if i tried.
I feel a huge portion of the interview that wasn’t touched on was the fact that zaza was/is a Muslim trans. Would love to have known more about the acceptance/struggles she faced in terms of religious acceptance. This would have been interesting and could be a whole video on its own!! But other than that, it was an enjoyable and insightful video! I appreciate zaza for having the strength to come forward to educate zula’s viewers on this very shunned issue in conservative singapore.
Thank you Zaza for your beautiful courage. As a cis gendered male, I cannot imagine the struggle that you had to go through the whole process. I learnt so much from this video. Your resilience and your courage to be true to yourself. #QUEEN! And you look so so stunning beautiful! Zula keep up with these awesome content!!!
Another excellent video by Zula! Really appreciate all the content that's been put out! Thank you Zaza for sharing with us your incredible journey and Leah for being a great interviewer as usual.
This was a very well-presented interview. It covers all the key points that people would want to know about transwomen but were too afraid to ask, while making sure the environment was safe and comfortable for the interviewee. Props to Leah's interviewing style, and to Antasha for being very candid and down to earth in her answers.
This was really fun to watch, so so good. Zaza's personality really shines through! Question: Zaza mentioned about asking questions at the "right place" and "right time". Any guidelines on this? (Barring obvious ones like "be kind / don't be ignorant / do your own research" of course.) Am just thankful for this platform where I can ask this also. Appreciate any constructive feedback from Zula and Zaza as well as readers here! :p
Thanks ZULA for constantly having segments / interviews with the LGBTQ+ community. More people do need to learn and educate themselves on the people in the world around them, and not that only themselves in their closed view of the world exists. Keep working to keep the privileged in the community learned, respectful, kind and compassionate. Keep it up!
We should not ostracise anyone in this world. We should give our support to the LGBTQ community. They face a lot of challenges in life and we should accept them and treat them equally as who they are. I wish Zaza will have a great life ahead of her! God bless! 🙏
Zaza and her “lah sia” hahahaha she’s so funny and cute lahh!! This is a great video, props to how professional both of them are in asking and answering qns in this interview :)
Haha. But lah sia is also a typical mat expression which is a giveaway 😂 and female transsexuals in particular can still leave behind traces of their former anatomy especially if past the pubertal stage. But the whole transsexual concept isn't new. I recall last time there was one My Life Story ep where a man chose sexual reassignment by choice at 26, story felt rather unnerving. TBH I'm not entirely comfortable with embracing and accepting trans for who they are but i get that sometimes they do it to improve their self esteem
I remember when learning about Transgenders in Church Youth group years ago, the teacher asked if Transgendered women can give birth. I immediately shouted “yeah!” And everyone around me just quietly glared or were just shocked at what I said. It was as if I slapped their mother or something. The teacher then said “no, they can’t” and I simply replied “oh”. (I’m not in that church anymore LOL) I really couldn’t help but feel so sad. (I obviously didn’t voice that out considering the temperature of the room) I really hope one day, medical science will allow transgendered people to fully become the gender they identify with, more specifically, their real gender. I am so heartened to see so many people so supportive of the transgender community. I’m not transgendered myself, but I fully support them. We should all have the chance to live a life worthy of living and to become the best versions of ourselves.
nxt time anyone ask such question about a women is someone who can get pregnant n give birth, u should ask them what do u define a biological women who cant hav baby at all? 🤭😉 does that mean she is transgender too since she cant hav baby too👻
I got to know my first trans friend in ns, heck I think I only know 1 person in the lgbtq community before enlisting, I was like in awe when I heard her story like bro some of them 5 years old know they don't identify with their birth gender while I think I was still learning how to aim properly when peeing.
This is pretty interesting for me personally as I had a pri school friend who I suddenly found on FB as a trans when I found an odd name I never saw before in my friend list. Looking back, there were signs but nothing that would make anyone expect that the person would be trans in future.
I am just glad, for all the outside view of Singapore being a 'traditional' country and may wholly reject such stuff, it is not true and we are accepting, especially from the Governing bodies. While there is definitely a lot of room to improve, in terms of processes and more importantly, acceptance amongst regular folks, we are moving in the right direction.
