Being a Malaysian and a fan of Momota’s it was feeling complicated to watch this match, at heart I wanted my home country to win it all, while hoping Momota can also lift Japan their second Thomas Cup in the end. Happy retirement to one of the greatest men’s singles players ever. ❤❤❤

As a Malaysian for me it is a QF with mixed emotions with joy of Malaysia made it to SF after 8 years, but at the same time a tinge of sadness of Momota unable to play on his last Thomas Cup with his team went out. Kodai absence was clearly felt by Japan but the spirits shown by the Malaysian players paid off eventually ending three previous straight editions disappointment. MOTD - LJH with his confidence and morale recovery booster after painful loss from Chia and Soh earlier.
Same with Malaysia. Although NTY couldnt play for Thomas Cup, we still managed to win.

As a Chinese I feel the same. I do expect Momota can come to the court, play for his team but at the same time I want Malaysia to win the game.
Being the underdog in this Thomas Cup, reaching semifinals is an achievement.. Congratulations and believe in yourselves 💪🎉
Malaysia was and is never an underdog on thomas cup.. the lowest they reach is quarterfinal.. averaging at semi final.. and once a while reach final for example 2014 thomas cup

@@Zheheng82Malaysia IS the underdog. If you ask any fan from any country playin QF , they would 100% wanna play Malaysia. In the QF Malaysia is the weakest , it's Japan who didnt capitalize to drag Malaysia until 3rd MS. If this tie were to be brought to the last MS , Malaysia would most probably lost and this is coming from a Malaysian. So ultimately , Malaysia IS the underdog.
Japanese confidence of winning their 2nd single and double base on ranking and record but the Malaysian players played superly.
While i was glad my team made it to sf, but seeing momota unable to come out and play somehow makes me feel sad. Best of luck in his future endeavors after leaving the national team.

Going into the quarter finals is a given but to the semifinal is something to behold. While LZJ performance was super but when our lead double fell, I thought that's it, cos our doubles performance is like the famous quotes from the movie Forest Gum " live is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you get" of course until you eat it. Fortunately, the piece of chocolate was a gem. Joon How performance was expected to fizzle out under such pressure as he did earlier. He surprised me with that solid performance. His win gave hope and inspiration to the second doubles. Kudos to them. For now the team should enjoy what they can, comes semifinal, it's a different level.

LZJ beating Nishimoto was no surprise but what surprised me was the margin. In the 2nd single, Watanabe was totally out of form probably due to failure to cope with the pressure -- bearing in mind he had a convincing win over Li Chun yi . The 2nd double revealed that the Japanese pair was outclassed in terms of speed and net control... Anyway, see some promising players from Malaysia but the prospect for Japan was dim given the next generation still to come up.

For everyone who asking "where was kodai? Why he didn't play?" well from what I heard from the commentators, he had knee injury from a tournament before TC. He still joined TC tho. But after his match at group stage, his injury worsen.
Sort of evened out. Naraoka was out but so was NTY. And Naraoka wouldn't beat LZJ anyway.

@@raihanramli7417 Momota had a lot of good years before he got injured. Naraoka has by comparison achieved moderate success. Also, Naraoka might have Momota's speed and accuracy, and maybe his temperament, but he doesn't have the power that Momota did in his prime. Momota used to play the percentages, but when he wanted it, he had more weight of shot and variety.
Japan's team disappointment will be remembered deeply bcs the team is unable to give 2-2 for momota to be the game changer. Congrats my country ❤
