    Hello! For several months, before I locked my hair, I water only washed my hair with great success. I was curious to know how my locs would hold up with water only washing. In this video I discuss how I use the power of pressure and friction to clean my scalp while wearing locs. I have since decided that water only washing is not suitable for my hair while in locs, but should I ever return to loose natural hair... I will be water only washing.

    Water only removes my natural sebum. Which is why I don't wash my hair in hot water...it removes too much oil and gives me dry scalp flakes. YUCK!
    But to be fair, tap water eventually makes my sebum waxy, tacky, and tough. I can't get my fingers through my hair. So I finish my wash my spraying it with distilled water, which removes the excess minerals delivered by the tap water. This loosens my sebum, so it slips down my hair much more easily and makes my hair soft rather than waxy.
    I definitely love the water only method (i.e., like you said, nothing but water goes into my hair).

    You've been a tremendous help to me! I'm going to start my two strand twist lock method soon. I'm definitely following you, people look at me strange when I tell them I use water only.

    Thanks for sharing. You expressed your thoughts so clearly. I like how you stated that the body produces these oils because it needs them. Our bodies are pretty cool. I'm a loose natural that also does Water Only - about a year and a half now. I think of it as something I'm trying out as well (even though it's been long term). I don't intend to change it unless I find that it's no longer beneficial or suitable for me.

    I would like to try it. The only thing that concerns me is sweat in my locs. I work out 5 days a week and my hair is soaked afterwards. But the scratch test seems like a valid way of finding out if it's effective

      +Diane Love honestly, I have the same issue. On days when my hair is sweaty I just place my head under the shower head (on a regular setting, not beam setting) and let it rinse the sweat away... i may do that 2-3 times a week.. or as needed. If I sweat, I rinse to address that very problem. You may try that and see what it does for you...

    I just wanted to add a clarification that most pressure washers include a solution that you include with the water so it's not exactly water only in pressure washer

      she said that she uses presure and friction on the scalp to loosed up the dirt and grime that may be on the scalp. so yeah....it is presure and water only washing the hair. So therfore, the hair and scalp is cleaned by the presure and friction of using the finger tips to get rid of the scalp debries. im just saying.

    I want to start water only washing, but do I first need to cleanse my hair with a shampoo and then there after, follow up with water only washing?

    • @Bindi_Marc

      I would definitely recommend thoroughly clarifying your hair before water only washing. I didn't do that and I'm paying for it now. video to come...

      MissJoyceMD Thank you for replying. That's what I thought. So I clarified on yesterday. What issues are you having due to not clarifying first?

    But what about sweating ? What about too much sebum clogging follicles? nonetheless this is interesting..
    Don't think it's for me but it seems like a cool(and inexpensive) method

    • @Bindi_Marc
      @Bindi_Marc  8 років тому

      +Jasmine T Yeah, its definitely not for everybody. But to touch on the points you brought up, on days that I sweat I immediately water rinse/wash. Because this method is not drying to the hair, you can do as frequently as needed (even everyday if desired). Sweat is basically salty water, and that can be rinsed out with water alone. So sweat should not really be a problem.
      "Sebum clogging the follicles"... if i understand what youre saying, youre talking about sebum clogging the pores in your scalp(?) I didnt experience this and it isnt smthg I'd worry about. If I'm remembering correctly, sebum melts at 84 degrees... so if your shower is at least that hot (which most are) you would melt any sebum pooling in your pores. That same sebum would work its way down the hair shaft to coat the length of the hair which would be a desired outcome.

    How did your loose natural hair benefit from water washing?

    • @Bindi_Marc
      @Bindi_Marc  8 років тому +4

      +Denise Archbold I think it benefited most in that I achieved full sebum coverage (after some months) that afforded me (1) product free and easy detangling, (2) product free protection from dryness, and (3) shine.
      My hair became increasingly more and more manageable the longer I water only washed and allowed my natural sebum to build up. I really did love the experience.
