    Lots of people have made seiko bezel removal tutorials, yours is the first one that I managed to get my bezel off with! That bottom left corner is definitely the trick.

    Hey Eric, I find that soaking the bezel in mineral spirits for about 30 minutes softens the adhesive very nicely and the insert will just come off with a small amount of finger pressure. Leaves the original insert in pristine condition and eliminates the chance of deforming it with a screwdriver. Mineral spirits has virtually no odor as well and has a very slow evaporation rate. I do recommend removing the bezel gasket first though and re-lubing before installation.

      So with this technique, I should be able to remove my ceramic King Turtle bezel insert without damaging it, right?

    The bezel insert looks like it’s of a good quality.
    I purchased a skx007 many moons ago with the green bezel insert and it popped off after a few days and realised there were little or no contact surface and the insert was very thin almost foil like.

    First off I just want to say thank you for this amazing tutorial. I followed everything and it worked out great. One question, after installing my aftermarket sloped ceramic bezel insert with contact cement and letting it dry over night. Looked great but I noticed along the outer edge of the bezel (rim facing the crystal) one side was raised slightly higher than the other. Is this cause I applied the glue unevenly? Or the bezel insert itself was uneven. Have you encountered this before? Thank you so much.

    • @LumeShot
      @LumeShot  5 років тому +1

      Thank you for the kind words! Glad it worked out for you. Possibly the bezel insert itself was uneven or the underside of the bezel insert / exposed side of the bezel had some adhesive from the previous insert that caused it to raise up a little.

    I enjoy your videos, always explained and made easy to follow. Thank you. ***** But I had a few problems with this bezel video, you see it started well and was all going to plan but I made the mistake of smelling the alcohol mixture and thinking how yummy it smells. 10 minutes later and an empty container , it all started going wrong, my vision seemed blurry thus the kitchen instrument I was using slipped of the bezel and stabbed me, I then slipped across the watch glass deeply causing a deep gash. So then I carved my name on my wife's families antique Grandfather clock. At the end of all this, I felt good about myself and very happy.

    My bezel insert was very difficult to remove without heat and I was using quite a bit of force to the point that I was concerned of bending the actual bezel. I used my heat gun (paint stripper gun) on low setting and the adhesive melted and it came away with no pressure at all. Great video as always. Thanks.

    So it appears like you swapped a flat bezel insert for a sloped bezel insert.. when i first got into modding i had tried to do the same.. but the slope on the replacement bezel made the interior diameter higher then the crystal... not very eye appealing... so what are the "rules" that make this type of swap more seamless?

    Contact adhesive means just that. It needs to be in contact with itself to work properly. You have to put the adhesive on both parts to be joined, not just one side. The adhesive sticks to itself after a quick drying time. Put the adhesive on both sides to be joined, then wait for it to get tacky. Once both sides are tacky you place the two pieces together, but you have to be careful because once they are together you have no time to adjust things, once it's stuck, it's stuck for good! Great videos, keep up the good work. I just bought a Seiko SKX011J1(Orange Boy)because of watching your channel...

    • @leehenderson5891
      @leehenderson5891 3 роки тому +1

      Hi , contact adhesive also works if you just coat one side and join straight away - known as a “wet” stick, when applying to both sides and waiting for it to dry before joining both parts is a “ dry” stick - from and old uk pro model maker!

    Why do you glue the insert on after you put the bezel back on?? And what type of glue is satisfactory to use? I think something like epoxy is overkill glue yeah? I see some of these inserts come with a sticky backing- that you peel away(similar to double sided tape) is that right or? Thanks
    P.s - You don't run a small layer of silicone grease before you put the bezel back on?
