  • Опубліковано 10 вер 2020
  • For the last week i have been working on the greenhouse base fitting the hardwood sleeper sill beams. It went well and i am pleased with how it has turned out. It is now ready to build on.
    The soil is now going to rest for a few months before we top it up again ready to plant in the spring.

    I love how casually you explain the simplicity of the process.... It's funny how simple rarely translates to easy. There's a lot of hard work that you've condensed into a few satisfying moments of viewing pleasure! Thank you ☺️ and know that at least a few of the subscribers acknowledge and appreciate the huge effort involved in making not just the project but the video. 🌱

    I find it incredibly reassuring that there is still someone out there that can and does build this way - with quality materials, recycled when possible or harvested from your land, almost completely by hand, and made to last for centuries. A far cry from the cardboard and tissue paper structures they build here in the US now.

    my goodness you make it look so easy, it really looks great 👍
    One quick suggestion, after a couple of rains I would either black tarp it or cover with cardboard, till you are ready to use it. This will serve three things, first it will stop any weed seeds in your compost that may have germinated from growing, it would also allow your compost to continue to rot down nicely and lastly you won't have large amts of your nutrients being washed away by the rain that will access it till the structure is sealed.
    Oh! I've just thought of something, I wonder if you should have added a layer of grass clippings on top of the wool, just thinking, that's a lot of carbon and does your almost finished compost have enough nitrogen in it to counteract that carbon load below.
    Either way I can't wait to see the finished product 😊 keep up the great work.

    Hi Kris, your building of the greenhouse is outstanding. I admire all the work you have done and your achievements in all what you have done and built. You make it all look so easy . What amazes me is how you handle those sleepers all alone, the weight and there is more than one of them.All I can say is from the mock up model of the greenhouse that you have made and sourcing all the material (stone etc etc for this build) is amazing. I can only say you have become or are an experienced carpenter. You have every right to be very pleased and should I say proud in what you have done. I look forward to watching this project till the end. Have a great day.

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  3 роки тому

      Yeah, left it not cut to size, its just over a meter on the model but its much easier to make a frame and install the frame then cut the sleepers to the opening then it is to get the door frame posts to land exactly at the opening. So i will cut them to the posts once the frame is in.

    • @69Buddha
      @69Buddha 3 роки тому

      @@KrisHarbour See, this is the stuff that's really valuable to learn. I'd have carefully cut those sleepers to what I thought was the perfect door size, then run into a boatload of problems trying to get it all to fit perfectly when I got to the door frame. Your method of leaving it over-sized and trimming it back to the posts is smarter, faster, and probably ends up in a better looking fit with much less effort.

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  3 роки тому +1

      Thats right, Basically you always have to be thinking about stuff like that. cutting them down after will be easy, But the frame has alot of joints that all have to be just right. then the outside posts both have to sit in mortices so there is so much to think about and get right without also having to worry about getting the door posts to line up exactly with an already cut to size opening. it would also mean that the door size is fixed at a very early stage. while im making the frame i might decide it looks better with a bigger door so the option for that is left open.
